Grace White leaves KHOU 11 Houston

Grace White announced she's leaving her Consumer Investigative Reporter position with KHOU 11 Houston after nearly a decade.

Here is what White posted on Instagram.

"Some big news to share! I never thought I would leave KHOU this year, but sometimes unexpected doors open. In August, our family will be moving to Canada for my husband’s job.

First, I want to say thank you Houston and @khou11 for so many wonderful years. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a decade! I still remember what it felt like when I walked into Allen Parkway in 2014. I was thrilled to be working in my hometown. 

From covering dozens of cold cases and launching our “Missing Pieces” series, to in-depth coverage on Harvey and now Beryl, and most recently taking on consumer investigations - it’s been an incredible ride! The cases we have covered and the families we have worked with will always be close to my heart. 

For this next chapter, we’re excited to live in Calgary and give our kids ages 8, 5 and 3 the chance to explore beautiful Banff and the mountains! Hellooooooo snow ☃️ We do plan to eventually return to Houston, this will always be home."

White has been with KHOU 11 since October 2014 as a reporter. 

Since then, we have watched her family grow to include three children.

When Tiffany Craig left Channel 11 in 2023, White was promoted to her Consumer Investigative Reporter role. 

White joined KHOU 11 from News 4 San Antonio WOAI where she was an anchor/reporter. 

Before that, she worked as a reporter for WEAR ABC 3 Pensacola, Florida, and KLFY NEWS 10 Lafayette, Louisiana.

The native Houstonian graduated from Memorial High School and the University of Mississippi and interned with competitor ABC13 KTRK, Houston City Hall, and the White House.

KHOU 11 has had many job moves recently.  We've seen departures from Stephanie Whitfield, Kimberly Davis, Adam Bennett, Matt Musil and Robert Springer.  Then we've seen arrivals from Trason Bragg, David Loving and Luis Ortiz.

Grace White promoted to KHOU 11 Consumer Investigative Reporter

Grace White announced that she has been promoted to the KHOU 11 Houston Consumer Investigative Reporter role.

Here is what White, who has been a special assignments reporter/fill-in anchor, posted on Facebook:

"Excited to finally share — I’m starting a new chapter.

After 9 years reporting nightside for KHOU 11 News, I’m taking on a new role - Consumer Investigative Reporter. 

First and foremost, this gets me home at night to our 3 kids and to more Little League games.

Second, it fulfills a career dream of doing more investigative reporting full-time and helping people.

Thankful to God for this opportunity to continue doing what I love in my hometown."

White joined KHOU 11 in 2014 from News 4 San Antonio WOAI where she was an anchor/reporter. She previously worked as a reporter for WEAR ABC 3 Pensacola, Florida and KLFY NEWS 10 Lafayette, Louisiana.

Born and raised in Houston, White graduated from Memorial High School and the University of Mississippi.  She interned with abc13 KTRK.

The Lone Star Emmy reporter takes over from Tiffany Craig who filled the role of what was then called the KHOU 11 Consumer Advocate Reporter. Craig left the station after her mom's death from a battle with dementia.

Craig is now co-founder of AmareVida Move Managers, based in Kingwood, which helps with everything from sorting to packing and unpacking at the new home.

"AmareVida started as a home care company and we expanded to offer move management after listening to our care clients and their families," Craig tells me. "I didn't even know move management was a thing and I certainly had no clue there was a national organization helping companies figure it all out. I went through this very personal struggle with my own family and I really enjoy making the path smoother for those in transition."

AmareVida Move Managers recently became the newest member of The National Association of Senior & Specialty Move Managers (NASMM).

Deevon Rahming joins KHOU 11 Houston

Deevon Rahming is joining KHOU 11 Houston exactly one month from today via TEGNA sister-station KARE 11 Minneapolis, Minnesota where he's a reporter.

"Exactly one month from today, a new adventure begins, as the next chapter of my life and career is written in Houston, Texas!!! 

I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the legendary team at KHOU 11 News taking on a new challenge professionally in America’s 4th largest city! 

While I’m looking forward to hitting a hard reset in a new city, I will forever cherish my time here in the Twin Cities. It’s been quite a ride. 

Together, we’ve been through a lot these last 3 years which is why Minneapolis will always hold a special space in my heart. 

I will miss my KARE 11 family and the people in this community who’ve taken me in as family. Including our faithful viewers who’ve reached out with words of kindness over the years, while also entrusting me with your stories and lived experiences. 

With a month left to spare, I’m looking forward to finishing strong and ending this chapter on a high note with all of you!!"

Rahming joined KARE 11 in January 2020 from ABC 15 News WPDE Florence, South Carolina where he had been a multimedia journalist since December 2017.

The Florida State University grad interned with WSB Atlanta and worked as a production assistant for Fox 4 News WFTX Fort Myers, Florida. The Florida Keys native also worked as a WINK News production assistant while in high school.   I wonder if he ever saw a Hemingway Look-Alike contest?

Tiffany Craig is leaving KHOU 11 Houston after 13 years according to an internal station memo obtained by mikemcguff.com.

Here is a portion of that memo:

"From my first day in 2010 when Bill [Bishop] said 'are you gonna work hard' to the recent afternoon when Liz [Roldan] asked 'are you sure,' it’s been a whirlwind of a 13-year career at KHOU. 

I’ve chased down news on every shift, talked my way out of an AM position a few times, and delivered the first live hit when we launched the 4pm show. 

In 2014, I successfully campaigned for a new role and that’s how Consumer Advocacy at KHOU11 was born. On and off air, I’m proud to say that Gregg Ramirez and I helped a lot of frustrated Houstonians with their problems. 

I’ve always said that I have the best job at the TV station but after losing both of my parents in two years, I need a change. 

I’m shaking off the comfort of a 25-year broadcasting career, taking a giant leap of faith, and following a new passion I have realized since helping to care for my mom. 

I’ll be working with AmareVida (that’s 'love life' in Latin). It’s a small, boutique-style home care company that helps seniors. I’ll also be searching for other ways to assist our aging population. 

Thanks to so many of you for your help and support along the way."

What a great transition for Craig to life outside of TV news. As my blog readers might remember, Craig lost her mother in early 2023 to Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus which causes dementia-type symptoms.

She recently had been on leave from channel 11.

Craig joined KHOU 11 in 2010 as a general assignments reporter.  She grew up in Houston watching Marvin Zindler and continued in his direction as the KHOU 11 consumer advocate reporter starting in 2014.

She returned to Houston from WKRG News 5 Mobile, Alabama where she was a special assignments reporter. Before WKRG, Craig worked for ABC 33/40 WBMA Birmingham, Alabama. 

While working in Alabama, Craig earned an Emmy, a National Edward R. Murrow Award, numerous Regional Murrows and Associated Press Awards too.

The North Shore High School and Sam Houston State University grad got her on-air TV start in KVII Amarillo as a reporter.

Veteran Broadcaster quits TV career to help seniors 

KHOU11 Consumer Advocate Reporter Tiffany Craig leaves KHOU11 to join AmareVida as the home care company's Director of Marketing and Communications. 

Tiffany is an award-winning journalist with 25 years of experience and spent much of her time helping "the little guy" with consumer issues. After losing her mother to dementia, Tiffany has decided to help in a different way. She is turning her focus to senior citizens and their families.

  

"When my mom was diagnosed with dementia, my family was lost. She needed more in-home care than we could provide and that's how we found AmareVida. In our greatest time of need, AmareVida was there. I'm honored to help this boutique-style company and hopefully prevent other families from feeling that same sense of helplessness. Mom was my biggest fan when I was on the air. I’m certain that she would approve of the work I’m doing now.” 

Tiffany obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Radio/Television/Film from Sam Houston State University. She has worked at 5 different TV stations and won countless broadcasting awards before taking this "leap of faith” into a new industry.

The KHOU 11 Houston consumer reporter moved her mom in with her to take care of her to the end. 

She took to Facebook to share that she is taking a leave from television and the online world for a little bit.

"I need a break. I need a break. 

When I finally said those words out loud. I got an enormous amount of support because right now I'm feeling okay, but I know that I can feel a whole lot better. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to take a step back from this, both online and on TV, and I'm going to focus on me for a little while. Me. 

So that when I come back, I will be my best self again. 

I'm telling you that because it means that you won't see me. 

You might see me out and about, and I hope if some of you do that, you speak to me. But, also I feel like maybe there's some of you that are watching this that maybe just feel okay and you want to feel better, and by saying it out loud..."

Tiffany Craig loses her mother

Tiffany Craig has been chronicling her mother's battle with dementia for the past year and unfortunately, Moira, passed away in late January.

UPDATE 
Tiffany Craig will be off KHOU 11 Houston for a little time

Craig tells me the funeral is February 11, 2023.

In January 2022, the KHOU 11 Houston consumer reporter posted an emotional message to her Facebook page with the following message:

"Mom was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus in February 2020. It causes dementia-type symptoms. Doctors told us they could reverse it. 2 brain surgeries later and her comeback story isn’t the one I had hoped to tell. She lives with me now and we’re on a different journey. We have live-in care and most of the time, I get to be her daughter."

Moira moved in with Craig as a result of her declining health.  

Through the process, Craig wanted to share more about her mother's journey so she could hopefully help others going through the same thing.

So, she introduced #TheMoiraStory hashtag on her page and shared what she could through the difficult process.

As someone who has gone through the caregiving process with his mother, I reached out to Craig back in August to see if she needed help.   As a board member of the Alzheimer’s Association Houston and Southeast Texas chapter, I know there is a 24/7 hotline at 800.272.3900 to help those suffering from dementia. 

Even though my mother died in 2005, I still find it heart wrenching to read stories like Craig's, but it is important she shares it.
