Mikayla Smith is heading to FOX23 News KOKI Tulsa from News12 KXII Sherman, Texas.
"So many answered prayers led to this moment," Smith tweeted. "I am thrilled to announce I’ll joining the FOX23 Severe Weather Team in Tulsa! I cannot wait to begin working alongside an incredible weather and news team to serve Green Country. Come start your weekends with me Tulsa!"
Smith gained national attention when she started "Signing Science with Smith" which provided weather updates in American Sign Language for both the deaf and hearing viewers.
"That was really where it hit it for me," Smith told Inside Edition. "Is that I want people to be able to be on their phone, getting their news like everybody else and being able to still understand what's going on in the community around them."
The Rockwall, TX native was inspired by her mother, a special education teacher, to learn sign language in seventh grade.
"ASL is a beautiful language," Smith added. "It's a great language to start to learn. It really changed my life when I started to learn it."
Smith, who worked for KXII as an Oklahoma University senior, was with the Texoma station from January to April 2022.
She interned with News on 6 KOTV Tulsa, Oklahoma.
