KCEN 6 debuts first African American all female anchor team

Jasmin Caldwell, who is joining Texas Today morning news on KCEN 6 Waco/Temple/Killeen, announced the TEGNA station's new AM lineup starting May 2, 2022.

"Promotion alert," Caldwell tweeted. "These lovely ladies and I will be making history as the first African American all female news anchor team at @6NewsCTX. I am thrilled and honored."

Weekend anchor Caldwell is joining KCEN 6 morning anchor Taheshah Moise and WAAY 31 Huntsville, AL meteorologist Ashley Carter.

The new lineup happened after anchor Chris Rogers headed off to 10 Tampa Bay WTSP and meteorologist Jordan Darensbourg joined KVUE Austin.

Not only is this KCEN's first African American all female news anchor team, but Chris O'Connell of MYSA thinks it could be "perhaps the nation's — first-ever all-Black, all-female news anchor team."

"Growing up, I always saw all-white news anchors," Caldwell told O'Connell. "I didn't think that there would ever be Black newscasts. I knew there was always room for one, but I didn't think that I would see three African Americans — male or female — permanently, all at one time. No way."
