Jake García is joining KING 5 Seattle as a sports reporter from TEGNA sister-station KVUE Austin where he was a sports reporter and anchor.
"Excited to share I’ve accepted a sports reporting job at @KING5Seattle, and will be moving back to the Pacific Northwest at the start of May," García tweeted. "Thanks for being my community, @KVUE. Thanks for being home, Austin. These past 3 years were everything.
García follows former KVUE meteorologist Christopher Nunley, Ph.D., who started at KING 5 in March 2022.
"So excited to have my KVUE brother now be my K5 brother," Dr. Nunley tweeted. "Congrats big dawg. No one is more deserving. This guy is going to kill it. Washington, you’re going to love him. See you soon, bud."
García joined KVUE 24 in July 2019.
The native Californian was called, along with the rest of the Golden State's population, to Austin from NewsWatch 12 KDRV Medford, Oregon where he was a sports reporter. No joke, people from outside of Texas told me at SXSW 2022 that Uber drivers were telling them to not fall in love with Austin and move there!
While obtaining a master's degree from Arizona State University, García was a sports reporter for the university owned Arizona PBS 8 KAET. He also did work for SunDevilSource.com and the Pac-12 Networks.
