Laura Whitley promoted to TDECU Market President

Laura Whitley, a former abc13 KTRK reporter, has been promoted to become TDECU's first-ever Market President for the Houston area.

Whitley joined Houston's largest credit union in September 2021 as its Vice President of Communications.

“I am energized by this fantastic opportunity to bring financial empowerment and solutions to Houston, especially in our underserved areas, as the city continues to reimagine itself,” Whitley said in a statement. “I look forward to supporting and leveraging more opportunities to increase TDECU’s impact and outreach within our communities.”

Prior to TDECU, Whitley worked for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) as a media specialist and spokesperson.

Whitley left channel 13 and started Reel Media Solutions in 2009.

"I loved working as a full time television journalist, however I needed something more flexible to give my family more of my attention and time," Whitley told mikemcguff.com in 2019. "Growing this business really allows me to have the best of both worlds. The kids don't come with me on shoots or consultations, but I think they do know to be quiet when Mommy is on the phone with a client."

The University of Texas at Austin grad previously worked for FOX 7 Austin KTBC and KCEN 6 Waco-Temple-Killeen.

In her new position, Whitley joins two other regional Market Presidents, Josh Brian of Brazoria County and Will Warren of Montgomery County.

“Laura’s dedication and enthusiasm for improving the lives of our Members makes her the perfect leader for our Houston area Market President,” said Jose Delgado, SVP, Chief Banking Officer. “Her deep community ties and knack for building coalitions are exactly what we need to strengthen our presence in Houston and beyond.”
