Deneige Broom returns to WFTV 9

Former FOX 26 KRIV Houston reporter Deneige Broom has announced she is returning to WFTV 9 Orlando to be the station's traffic reporter.

The Seminole County native came to Houston and channel 26 in July of 2017 from WFTV where she had worked since 2013.

Broom signed off KRIV in August 2019.

Before WFTV, Broom covered news for WCTV Tallahassee's Valdosta, Ga. bureau.

Broom attended Florida State University and covered football as an ESPNU sideline reporter.

KPRC 2 reporter Carl Willis is heading to Atlanta's WSB and now reinforcements are starting to show up at the Houston NBC affiliate.

Fresh off the Casey Anthony trial, Mark Boyle, 26, will be the latest reporter to hold a KPRC 2 mic flag. Boyle is still wrapping up his gig at Orlando's WFTV 9.

According to his WFTV bio, Boyle started with the station in August of 2008. Before that he was a reporter for WWSB in Sarasota. He is also a graduate of the the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications. In addition he interned at Good Morning America and the Today Show.

Boyle told the Orlando Sentinel's Hal Boedeker that he is leaving WFTV on July 22 and will start in Houston on August 1.

Deneige Broom leaves FOX 26 KRIV

The Houston heat must be making you and me delirious.

Apparently FOX 26 KRIV got a new reporter in June and I didn't notice, and most importantly, no Houston TV viewers wrote in to tell me.

That's odd.

I mean, viewers contact me about rings appearing and disappearing on anchor's fingers.

Some seem to watch newscasts with magnifying classes against the screen to see if {insert TV personality name here} has popped a zit.

Anyway, Orlando Sentinel columnist Hal Boedeker just wrote a piece about Deneige Broom leaving WFTV Orlando for FOX 26 KRIV.

At least the humidity won't catch her off guard.

Broom started at WFTV in 2013.

“I came from a much smaller market (Tallahassee), and WFTV taught me how to investigate stories and analyze things in a way that I don't think I could've been shown anywhere else," Broom told Boedeker. "It was a lot of work and stress at times, but I'm thankful for the growth and opportunity to report and anchor in my hometown market so early in my career.”

Before Orlando, Broom worked in the Valdosta, Ga. bureau for Tallahassee's WCTV.

She attended Florida State University and even covered football there as a sideline reporter for ESPNU.

According to her bio, Broom lived in Madrid, Spain and worked for the Spanish government as a teacher where she became fluent in Spanish.

Speaking of FOX 26, I understand meteorologist Lisa Vaughn is still missing.

Will let you know if I hear anything.

Originally from Houston, Fenoglio previously worked in California for KRON 4 San Francisco and CBS Newspath according to his LinkedIn page.

He started at KTRK in May of 2015.

Boyle came to the Bayou City from Orlando's WFTV 9 where he had worked since 2008.

Irika Sargent to leave KPRC for WFOR Miami

I can already see which KPRC 2 reporter will be assigned the Harris County court beat. It's new hire Irika Sargent from WPMI 15 in Mobile, Alabama. Why? She has a law degree from Cornell.

According to her station bio, "Irika spent the next four years practicing law in New York City at the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig LLP. She represented clients in New York federal and state courts, as well as the the New York Division of Human Rights and National Labor Relations Board. However, Irika never planned to stay away from broadcast journalism too long!"

Sargent started in TV at KOMU in Columbia, Missouri. Then she went to the law and returned to television back at KOMU. The legal eagle earned her Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Missouri too.

Sargent is represented by Mort Meisner Associates. She starts in Houston at the beginning of August.

So which big name in Houston TV also as a law degree? KTRK 13 anchor Melanie Lawson earned her degree from Columbia University and also practiced in New York afterwards before changing to TV.

What started as a few emails has turned into a flood.

I do not know where she has been since March 2025, when her bio says she filed her last report.

As for social media, I couldn't find any updates on any account in quite some time.

I am writing this post to let you know that I am aware of Bozarjian's absence. Stay tuned as we learn more.

Bozarjian joined Channel 13 in Houston from  7 Action News WXYZ Detroit in August 2023.

She previously worked for WSAV News 3 in Savannah, Georgia, as a multimedia journalist (MMJ), fill-in anchor, and fill-in producer.

The University of Central Florida grad interned for WFTV Channel 9 and News 6 WKMG Orlando.

Ken Kalthoff leaves NBC 5 DFW

Ken Kalthoff left his reporting position with NBC5 KXAS Dallas-Fort Worth on February 26, 2024 after two decades.

"Today is my last day at NBC5 after 24 yrs here and 44 total with other stations," Kalthoff tweeted.  "I’m truly grateful for the support I’ve received to tell your stories!!"

Kalthoff joined NBC 5 in January 2000, where he primarily covered Dallas City Hall, local politics, and general assignments.

While with KXAS, Kalthoff also reported for NBC, MSNBC and CNBC when embedded with US Marines in Iraq and Kuwait during March and April of 2003.

Before joining NBC5, the 1979 University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana grad held positions as a reporter and anchor at various television stations in cities such as Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Orlando, and Mobile.

Prior to KXAS, Kalthoff was a reporter/anchor at cross-town North Texas rival station KDAF 33.

Jonathan Novack's bio has been removed from the CW39 Houston KIAH bios page.

Idolina Peralez returns to CW39 Houston KIAH as chief meteorologist

Novack, who returned to Houston in 2024 from FOX 11 Los Angeles KTTV to become the CW39 chief meteorologist, essentially flipped stations with Adam Krueger.

While in Los Angeles, Novack also worked for the Tennis Channel and ABC7 Los Angeles KABC.  Reality TV or unscripted fans might recognize him from his appearances on ABC's The Bachelorette and The Bachelor Pad.

KPRC 2 viewers might recognize him from his time on the channel 2 weekend weather desk. 

Before KPRC, he worked at WSVN 7 News Miami as a meteorologist.

The Syracuse University and Mississippi State University’s Broadcast Meteorology Program graduate began his television career with KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock.

Added to the CW39 bios page is reporter Daryl Matthews, who comes from WFTV Channel 9, Orlando, Florida, where he has been since May 2023.

The Temple University previously reported for stations in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Elmira, New York.

Don't stand in front of the revolving doors at KHOU 11's Allen Parkway Houston studio - you might get trampled.

Earlier I told you how KHOU reporter Lisa Chavarria is WFLD 32 Chicago bound, and now we already know who her replacement is.

Funny enough, Tim Wetzel joins KHOU 11 from WTVF 5 Nashville. That just happens to be the TV station KHOU hired Chavarria from a few years ago!

"It looks like I'm about to miss meeting Lisa Chavarria," Wetzel told mikemcguff.com. "She came from my station in Nashville. I started there days after she left. I guess I'll be missing her twice!"

If Wetzel plays his cards right, he might be missing her a third time one day at WFLD Chicago if things continue in the same direction.

Wetzel tells me he was in Nashville for two years. Before that he worked at WFTV in Orlando, WINK in Fort Myers and KTIV in Sioux City, IA.

"I'm very excited to join the KHOU team and look forward to working at such a great station," Wetzel told me.

Wetzel starts with the Belo owned Houston station Monday.

Alex Bozarjian leaves ABC13 Houston

Alex Bozarjian has left ABC13 Houston KTRK as her reporter bio has been removed from the station's "News Team" page as of August 2025.

I first wrote in May 2025 that Bozarjian apparently had not been on an Eyewitness Newscast since March. 

- Mayra Moreno returns to ABC13 Houston

Bozarjian joined Channel 13 Houston in August 2023 from 7 Action News WXYZ Detroit, where she worked as a nightside reporter.

Before that, she reported for WSAV News 3 in Savannah, Georgia, where she served as a multimedia journalist, fill-in anchor, and producer. While at WSAV, she gained national attention after a male runner struck her on the backside during a live report at a local race.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida, Bozarjian previously interned at WFTV Channel 9 and News 6 WKMG in Orlando.

Bryanna Moore joins CW39 Houston

Bryanna Moore announced this week that she is joining CW39 Houston KIAH from Nexstar Media Group sister stations Louisiana First News, WVLA NBC Local 33, and WGMB Fox 44 in Baton Rouge.

Here is a portion of what Moore posted on social:

"Houston... I'm coming home. 

God did.

There were moments I prayed for opportunities I couldn't yet see, trusted His timing when it didn't make sense, and believed He was writing a story bigger than I could imagine. Today, I get to see part of that story unfold.

After an incredible chapter at Louisiana First News, I'm beyond excited to share that I'm joining the amazing team at CW39 Houston!

As a proud Houston native, this moment is more than a new job—it's a full-circle blessing. The city that raised me is now the city I'll have the honor of serving through storytelling."

Moore has served as the Weekend News Anchor and reporter for Louisiana First News since February 2025. 

Before her promotion to the anchor desk, she launched her television news career as a multimedia journalist (MMJ) at sister station KNWA-TV and FOX24 News KFTA in Northwest Arkansas.

A Houston native, Moore attended Klein High School and the University of North Texas (UNT), where she earned a bachelor's degree in Converged Broadcast Media with studies in public relations, advertising, and applied communication. While at UNT, she also gained on-air experience as a news anchor for North Texas Television and completed a public relations internship with Pierpont Communications.

Moore is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

One CW39 journalist job change that went unreported while I was on blog break was the departure of reporter Daryl Matthews, whose bio was removed from the station website. 

Matthews started at the station in the fall of 2025 after working at WFTV Channel 9 in Orlando, Florida, where he had been since May 2023. A Temple University grad, he previously worked in Greensboro, North Carolina, Elmira, and New York.

Deneige Broom leaves FOX 26 KRIV

FOX 26 KRIV reporter Deneige Broom announced today is her last day at the station.

"Soooo today was my last day @FOX26Houston," Broom tweeted. "I love this city and so many of the people I’ve met. Thank you for letting me into your homes for the last 2 years ❤️I’ll keep you posted about my next moves."

Broom came to FOX 26 in 2017 from WFTV Orlando where she had worked for four years as a reporter and fill-in anchor.

Before Florida, she worked at Tallahassee's WCTV for the station's Valdosta, Ga. bureau. She eventually became a weekend anchor there.

While attending Florida State University, Broom covered football as a sideline reporter for ESPNU.

When I got into news, the explorer in me loved the idea of moving to different cities and stations. What I didn’t anticipate was coming to really love some of the people and cities I’d encounter along the way. Once again, I’m saying “see ya later” to some great people.

To my coworkers, many of you have become friends, sounding boards and shoulders I literally cried on when life kept dealing me blows. Thank you for making this decision to leave so difficult. These 2 years wouldn’t have been the same without you. It takes a crazy group of people to do what we do, but we were crazy together.

To our Houston viewers, thank you for letting me into your home every morning. When I’ve met some of you in person, you’ve embodied southern hospitality and kindness. I’ve appreciated every sweet word you’ve sent my way.

To this city, thank you for making this Florida girl feel like Houston is home. I didn’t know much about Houston before I moved. I’d only been here for a month when Harvey happened, and watching the city come together will stick with me forever. We recovered together and I’m sure that’s why Houston will always be dear to me. I’m thankful I got to experience what makes the Bayou City so special...the people.

And the food 😆

I’ll announce my next moves when I can. This isn’t goodbye. Just “see ya later”.

KPRC's Mark Boyle covers NYC shooting while on vacation

I'm sure when KPRC 2 morning reporter Mark Boyle landed in New York City last weekend he thought he could get in some rest and relaxation.

Through Twitter we saw Boyle:
- Fly into LaGuardia Airport
- Have dinner with his mom at Michael Jordan's
- Enjoy dessert
- Take in a Broadway show
- Meet with Friends

Then after the Empire State Building shootout where two were left dead...he's on the air in Houston doing a live shot from New York City.

A reporter's work is never done.
