KHOU 11 anchor Lisa Hernandez says she is not returning after maternity leave

Lisa Hernandez announced she is not returning to anchoring for KHOU 11 after her maternity leave.

She posted the following to Facebook:

Hi everybody! Some news to share...As many of you know, my husband and I were blessed to welcome our second baby girl a few months ago. She’s doing great and our 4-year old is the best big sister! Being home with them the past three months has been such a joy…it’s also given me an opportunity to rethink my career path. While I love working in news, I’m taking a little extra time to be home with my family right now and will not be returning to KHOU after maternity leave. I’d like to thank KHOU, my colleagues and our wonderful viewers for the past eight years I’ve been on the air at channel 11! It’s truly been an honor to serve our community and I’m forever grateful for that opportunity.

Hernandez's husband is ESPN 97.5FM host Joel Blank.

The longtime channel 11 anchor left the airwaves sometime in August. She gave birth to Madison in late October. Older sister Taylor was born in 2015.

Upon her return from maternity leave, KHOU announced last summer that Hernandez would have started anchoring weekend evenings. Since she is not returning, that means either Ron Trevino will solo anchor, or there will be a new hire.

In 2016, Hernandez moved from the KHOU evening desk to mornings where she was paired with KGW Portland's Russ Lewis.

In 2011, Hernandez came to KHOU from KABC 7 in Los Angeles replacing Lucy Noland on the evening shift. Hernandez had been with ABC 7 since 2004.

The TV anchor started her journalism career by freelancing for the LA Times while earning a political science degree at UCLA but changed to TV news at KESQ Palm Springs. Her next gig took her east to Charlotte, North Carolina and News 14. The native Californian then returned to her home for KABC.
