Ryan Korsgard joins Million Air Austin

Former KPRC 2 reporter Ryan Korsgard has let us know about his new career in Central Texas!

"I am now the general manager of Million Air Austin," Korsgard told mikemcguff.com. "I was introduced to Million Air during the first Super Bowl in Houston more than 15 years ago. Since then, I built relationships with the people there (and spent as much time there as they would allow)."

It's no surprise that Korsgard covered Million Air Houston during the Super Bowl. That's where all the celebrities fly to H-Town in their private planes.

"Million Air is like a yacht club for private aviation," Korsgard added. "We provide fuel, hangars and a five-star hotel lobby as passengers arrive in Austin."

Now don't think Korsgard has signed up for a slower paced life after the hustle and bustle of television news.

"Like a TV station, we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year," he told me. "We are open in a temporary facility now. Our permanent facility will open in time for the Formula One racing at the Circuit of the Americas."

Korsgard left Houston TV last January, after 16 years at KPRC, to move to Austin and get married. He also ran the Boston Marathon for a good cause.

Houston media members run the Boston Marathon

Former KPRC 2 reporter Ryan Korsgard and KHOU 11's Stephanie Simmons both ran in the Boston Marathon

Former KPRC 2 reporter Ryan Korsgard was on channel 2 again, this time as a story participant.

The longtime Houston television news journalist ran the Boston Marathon yesterday for a cause he spent years reporting on.

Houstonian Rebekah Gregory lost a leg in the 2013 marathon bombings, her then 5-year-old son Noah was also injured. Due to the severe PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) that became a part of both of their lives she started Rebekah's Angels, a non-profit that provides resources and funding for children ages 18 and under with PTSD due to trauma.

Gregory and Korsgard became friends over the years so he decided to run for her team.

After nearly 16 years in Houston, reporter Ryan Korsgard is leaving KPRC 2

It's surprising to me I'm writing the words that KPRC 2 reporter Ryan Korsgard is leaving the station and Houston.

Ryan Korsgard joins Million Air Austin

To me, Korsgard seems like the kind of reporter who is a rock for a TV station. After all, he's been at channel 2 since April of 2003 and beyond that he received his Eagle Scout award at age 12 (among one of the youngest with that honor).

"I came to Houston knowing only one person in one of the largest cities in the country," Korsgard told mikemcguff.com. "KPRC TV and my new friends at Channel 2 quickly made Houston home. Now I leave a station and city I love and adore."

It's not a tv news job that is taking Korsgard away from us, but his upcoming marriage.

"Now I return to Austin and the Texas Hill Country to make a home with my fiancé and to explore the next step in my professional career," Korsgard told me.

Before his award-winning work in H-Town, I remember seeing Korsgard as a reporter at the old Belo days of KVUE 24 Austin. Prior to Texas, he worked five years at WAFF Huntsville, Alabama.

His television news career actually started way before that.

"After watching space shuttle launches, breaking news and political coverage on television, I knew I wanted to become a reporter," Korsgard said in his bio. "Thanks to a very understanding news director who became my mentor, at age 16 I began spending my weekends hanging out in a television newsroom."

So at just old enough to drive, Korsgard started working as a reporter-intern at a TV station near his home in southern Oklahoma. He worked there on the weekends as a high school senior.

After that broadcast training, he attended Oklahoma Baptist University.

All of this experience led him to cover NASA and the space industry for KPRC. His reporting work allowed him to cover two space shuttle launches and a supersonic flight aboard the Concorde from Paris to New York.

"Channel 2 is a special place that allows me to cover NASA and our space industry," Korsgard told me. "This is one of the few places on earth where this is possible. Through hurricanes, floods and rocket launches, my friends at KPRC have become family. I will forever be thankful to Graham Media and KPRC for the opportunities they’ve offered during my nearly 16 years in Houston."

His last day will be January 19th, 2019.

Car filled with Christmas lights on the inside

KPRC Channel 2's Ryan Korsgard reports on a Houston woman who decorates the inside of her car with lights and other items for Christmas. Talk about an Art Car in reverse I guess:

It started with an inverter to power the lights and it grew. Now there are about 100 Christmas lights, just as many cotton balls and enough white stuff to cover a queen-sized bed. Even the window sills have a coat of snow.

Brown's daughter, 8-year-old Elora Blackburn, said, "It just makes me think about Christmas a lot and it fills my heart! "

Usually there's a little snow scene beside Elora in the back seat, complete with a lighted Christmas tree, Santa and Frosty. But on Sunday, Baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph were on parade. READ THE REST
