KHOU 11 grabs reporter Larry Seward from KSHB Kansas City

KHOU 11 anchor Lisa Hernandez is not the only new face coming to the Belo owned Houston station. According to Bottom Line Communications, Kansas City's KSHB NBC Action News reporter Larry Seward will be arriving too. Seward also has national exposure from a viral video (more on that below).

According to collectivetalent.com, Seward is the lead night side reporter at KSHB and "enterprises investigations leading to change." He has covered disasters ranging from the Joplin tornado to the Mississippi flooding. He also covered President Obama's inauguration. KHOU.com will like the fact he writes news stories and blogs about behind the scenes happenings for his current station's website.

Before Kansas City, Seward worked in the Florence/Myrtle Beach market at WPDE-TV's South Carolina
Bureau reporter as a one man band and live truck operator from 2003 to 2005. He started his career in 1998 at WOUB-TV, Athens, Ohio where he reported, produced and anchored the PBS newscast.

Collectivetalent.com adds Seward has won awards such as the Society Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award: Best TV Sports Reporting (2001) and the Hearst Award: In Depth Reporting (2001).

Seward is a graduate of Ohio University. You can read more about him from his KSHB bio which claims the material in it, "may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed." I find that odd for a bio and wonder if Scripps Media just sticks that on every page of its site where there is text.

One thing that sticks out about Seward on the Internet is how one of his stories made Chelsea Handler's E! show Chelsea Lately. When you watch the clip, you will see that was just an unfortunate coincidence in the story and had nothing to do with Seward doing anything comedic in the story.

To see an example of his real reporting, watch the YouTube clip embedded below.  Next year he will likely be trading in snow coverage for possible hurricane coverage (or maybe drought coverage if what the experts say is true).

Seward will reportedly start at KHOU November 7th. Just weeks after Hernandez starts.

I contacted Seward via Twitter yesterday to confirm he is heading to WCPO which is the rumor around H-Town. He did not respond.

UPDATE
Seward is indeed joining WCPO as a senior reporter.

Seward has been with KHOU since 2011 when he arrived from Kansas City's KSHB NBC Action News where he had worked for more than six years.

Before KC, the Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism grad worked at WPDE Florence/Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

In 1998, he started his career at WOUB Athens, Ohio reporting, producing and anchoring the PBS newscast.

Sophia Beausoleil joins NBC 5 KXAS

Former KPRC 2 reporter Sophia Beausoleil has joined NBC 5 KXAS in Dallas - Fort Worth.

This isn't even new news since Beausoleil posted as much on her Facebook page when she left Houston! I just totally missed it even though I had posted her announcement on this very blog!

"I am heading north on I-45 and moving to Dallas," Beausoleil posted. "My husband is currently in residency at a hospital in Dallas and we've been long distance since last year. Now since our sweet baby boy is part of the equation, it makes the distance a little harder. While I will greatly miss reporting in H-Town, it's important for our little family to be together. You may still see me on the airwaves though, I'll be reporting at NBC 5, KXAS."

He will continue to be the General Manager of KABB-TV (FOX 29) and retain oversight of Sinclair's provision of services to KMYS-TV (CW 35) under a joint sale agreement. Mr. Kaplowitz has been the Director of Sales at KFOX-TV (FOX) in El Paso, Texas since 2013. He began his career in television sales working for the ABC affiliate in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Kaplowitz moved to KFOX in 2001 where he worked as an Account Executive until 2009. Multiple sources have told me that the iHeartMedia January 2020 job cuts did affect Houston. Radio Insight has a running list of affected cities from across Texas and the US. In Houston, the site reports that Mixers/on-air hosts DJ Ebonix, DJ Shante, and OG Ron C & The Chopstars exit Hip-Hop “93.7 The Beat” KQBT. I also hear members of the IT and production department were also let go.

Matthew Seedorff joins FOX 11 Los Angeles KTTV

Matthew Seedorff left his reporting job with FOX 26 Houston KRIV after four years and later announced he is joining FOX 11 KTTV Los Angeles.

Here is what Seedorff posted on Facebook concerning his Southern California move:

"Excited to announce our move to California!  Monday will be my first day at @foxla.  I look forward to continuing my career as a journalist in a city I’ve always been drawn to, surrounded by family and friends.

-> 7 year ago I made the long drive from my first TV news job in Casper, WY to Texas. I loved my time reporting in San Antonio and Houston. Both cities provided me with lifelong friendships, while shaping who I am as a person and reporter.  I leave Texas looking a little older, but full of memories I’ll always cherish.

Now, I can’t wait to get started in LA."

Speaking of FOX Los Angeles, the last FOX 26 journalist to head there was morning anchor Rita Garcia.

Here is what Seedorff posted on X when leaving FOX 26 Houston:

"Thank you, Houston! 

Wednesday will be my last day on air at @FOX26Houston. 

I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all of my coworkers, friends, and viewers in Houston. 

I can’t say where my wife and I are heading yet, but we’re excited for the future."

Seedorff joined FOX 26 in January 2020 from News 4 San Antonio WOAI/FOX 29 KABB where he was a reporter.

I will never forget the night Seedorff showed up on channel 26.  It was a Friday evening, and my family and I were trying to eat dinner.  Just ahead of his arrival, Shelley Childers gave birth, Larry Seward left KHOU, and Sophia Beausoleil left KPRC 2 for NBC DFW. In my world, that was breaking news overload! Of course, in early 2020, we didn't quite know what was coming next.

He previously worked for KTWO 2  Casper, Wyoming as an evening anchor.

The George Washington University grad was recently married to wife Natalie in 2023.

Seedorff's departure is preceded by the FOX 26 arrival of morning anchor DaLaun Dillard and meteorologist Allison Gargaro.

Is KHOU 11 getting a new set?

It's obvious from all the changes that I've blogged about recently, that KHOU 11 is getting an overhaul right now. Now a source tells me that the Belo owned station is getting a new set too. The new set will most likely be ready for the debut of new main anchor Lisa Hernandez of abc7 KABC fame. So that means late October.

In the meantime, you can see that the anchors are doing the newscasts from the newsroom. A temporary looking set has been squeezed in which kind of resembles the way KPRC 2's set looked for many years.

Sophia Beausoleil leaves KPRC 2

Sophia Beausoleil leaves KPRC 2

Katy native Sophia Beausoleil is leaving KPRC 2 and heading to Dallas.

"Saying goodbye (for now) to @KPRC2SophiaB who, along with her beautiful baby boy, is headed to Dallas, where her husband is a medical resident. We are going to miss her at @KPRC2. Good luck Sophia," posted KPRC 2 Assistant News Director Aaron Wische to Twitter.

That's not the only life change for the channel 2 reporter. Beausoleil welcomed baby Zayn last September (the same day as KPRC colleague Haley Hernandez).

Beausoleil joined KPRC 2 in 2017 coming from KXAN Austin. She has been there since 2012.

Before that she worked at WCIA Champaign, Illinois and KOMU8 Columbia, Missouri.

She is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

LIFE UPDATE: I have some bittersweet news.

After the 10pm newscast, today is my last day at KPRC2 / Click2Houston. The past three years here have been absolutely amazing! It's been an honor and privilege to report in my hometown and tell stories that are important to the community. One of the the most memorable moments will forever be reporting during Hurricane Harvey. The flooding impacted my family and I know many of you too. I'm grateful to those of you who opened up to me and shared your experiences during that time.

Thank you for trusting me. Trust is the only currency I have in this job, and I take it very seriously, so thank you for sharing your stories and for tuning in everyday.

I'm truly going to miss my hardworking co-workers and management. I'm so grateful to KPRC for allowing me to travel across the state, the country and even internationally to tell stories with ties to Houston.

As you may know, Houston is home for both me and my husband. We grew up in Katy, our parents are still here and so is our extended family.

So where am I going and why?

I am heading north on I-45 and moving to Dallas.

My husband is currently in residency at a hospital in Dallas and we've been long distance since last year. Now since our sweet baby boy is part of the equation, it makes the distance a little harder. While I will greatly miss reporting in H-Town, it's important for our little family to be together.

You may still see me on the airwaves though, I'll be reporting at NBC 5, KXAS.
