Jennifer Reyna returns to KHOU 11

I hear that Justin Stapleton has been filling in with traffic at times since he was promoted to the morning meteorologist position.  I'm not sure if he will continue to do this.

Earlier this summer, KPRC had buyouts for 12 staffers.

Latimer joined KPRC on Monday, May 1, 2023, taking over for Anavid Reyes, who left KPRC in April 2023.

Before Houston, Latimer worked for WSMV4 Nashville, Tennessee, where she has been a fill-in anchor/multimedia journalist (MMJ) since March 2021.

Prior to Nashville, Latimer worked as a reporter for WTEN 10 Albany, New York.

She arrived at KPRC with traffic anchor experience from DC News Now Washington, DC WDVM-TV (formerly WHAG).

She also worked as the West Virginia reporter for the statewide newscast “West Virginia Tonight.”

The Towson University graduate and National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) member interned with FOX 5 DC WTTG, WYPR 88.1 FM, and WBAL 11, the last two located in Baltimore.

Here is a portion of what Walker posted on social media:

"I accepted a wonderful opportunity, which will allow me to stay here in Houston and tell stories in a different capacity. I am ecstatic about what the future holds.

As I reflect on my time here, I can’t help be proud of my personal and professional evolution; from being an example that natural hair is professional, to using my voice to amplify yours and advocate for marginalized communities and groups.

Some of the stories I take the most pride in are the ones in which I’ve been able to get results for you all and hold people accountable, like when people showed up to unscrupulous pop-up COVID testing sites during the peak of the pandemic seeking results in a timely manner, which wasn’t the case. That story received an Emmy nomination. Or when homeowners in reached out asking us to hold their trash company accountable for widespread inconsistent service. Or when I was able to get refunds for women who traveled from out of state for a pricey hair appointment only to find out they were scammed. And how can I forget the tales of the roaming tigers, the murder trial that ensued and my visit to the wildlife sanctuary to see them in person.

Houston, thank you for inviting me into your homes and for entrusting me to tell your stories, especially during the most vulnerable times in your lives."

Walker joined KPRC 2 in 2018 from KMBC 9 Kansas City, Missouri.

She previously worked as a reporter for WCHS 8 Charleston Charleston, West Virginia and KOTA Territory TV Rapid City, South Dakota.

The Clark Atlanta University grad and Syracuse University master's degree earner interned with NBC Nightly News.

Burns married husband and professional basketball player, Karon Bradley, in August of 2022 and he is the reason for her Houston move.

"My husband is a Houstonian through and through," Burns told KPRC2+ 8am digital anchor Zach Lashway.  "Like, I've never met anyone who loves their hometown as much as him. So I'm here now with him, and I'm so happy.

"And we're truly newlyweds because I was working in Virginia after we got married in August for about six months. And then I moved here in January."

Burns compares her relationship with Bradley to the film "Love & Basketball."

"So, yeah, we met in college," Burns explained. "We both played basketball at Wichita State University, and he was on the men's team. Obviously I was on the women's team, and we we started dating and it started that way."

Bradley, a Cy-Springs High School grad, was on the 2003 Marquette University team which earned a spot in the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.  He transferred to Wichita State University in 2006. After graduation in 2007, Bradley played pro basketball overseas.

In addition to her CBS 6 Richmond duties, Burns also anchored sister-station DCW50 WDCW's News at 10PM from 2016 too 2018. In 2015, Burns helped launch CBS6 Problem Solvers which earned her an EMMY award in 2020.

Burns previously was a weekend morning anchor/reporter for ABC12 WJRT Flint, Michigan.

She is a native of Saginaw, Michigan.

She previously worked for KJRH 2 News Tulsa, Oklahoma as a reporter and KSN Local News KSNF Joplin, Missouri as a weekend anchor/reporter.

The Texas Tech University grad interned with FOX34 KJTV Lubbock.

Anavid Reyes leaves KPRC 2 Houston

Anavid Reyes left KPRC 2 Houston as its morning traffic anchor on April 5, 2023. Later in May, she  announced that she joined engineering consulting firm  Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. as its Corporate Communications and Community Relations Specialist.

UPDATE APRIL 2023
Justina Latimer joins KPRC 2

Here is what Reyes posted when she signed-off channel 2.

"It has been a WILD ride, and these folks made it so special!! I’m going miss them so much.

And a huge thanks to all of our viewers, serving you was an absolute delight.

It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later. Follow me on FB & Insta @anavidreyes … to keep up with all my mooooves!!"

Brandon Walker leaves KPRC 2

Here is what Reyes originally posted on social media when she announced her KPRC departure in early March 2023:

"My friends, it is with a heavy heart to announce I’ll be leaving KPRC2 / Click2Houston in April, as I take a moment to focus on family.

It’s definitely not the easiest, but it is the best decision for me in this season of life.

It takes a group of talented, creative, servant hearted individuals and strong leaders to produce a high-quality news product, so I feel incredibly proud and blessed to have been part of this team.

But most importantly, THANK YOU for welcoming me into your homes, and sharing your stories, and venting about traffic with me.

I’m going to miss serving you all the most. I'll still be in Houston and will be out and about so make sure to follow me on Insta & FB: @anavidreyes to keep up with what I’m up to! But we still have a whole month together left, no tears just yet."

The real Reyes came to KPRC 2 in 2020 from KVUE Austin where she was also the morning traffic anchor since 2017. Reyes replaced Jennifer Reyna, who had just left KPRC near the end of 2019. Reyna later joined KHOU 11 in October 2021.

By the way, the Houston raised Reyes had previously worked at KPRC in 2015 as a web editor for click2houston.com.  Around the same time, she was also a feature reporter and web editor for the now defunct News92FM KROI.

She later worked for KTAB-KRBC Abilene in 2015.

The University of Texas at San Antonio grad interned for FOX 29 KABB San Antonio.

And before anyone asks, no, it was not the real Anavid Reyes who had a meltdown on live TV! That was a comedian.

(Thanks Shad)
