If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then 98.7 KLUV adopting the "The Spot" branding of Houston Audacy sister-station 95.7 KKHH today is pretty cool.
"We’re thrilled to unveil the next chapter of KLUV’s history in the DFW and introduce 98.7 The Spot to our audience,” Brian Purdy, Regional President and Market Manager told RAMP-Radio and Music Pros. "The Spot will continue to serve as the home for the very best the Classic Hits format has to offer, featuring hits from over fifty years that our listeners crave.”
InsideRadio reports the change could have happened due to a deal owner Audacy made with Educational Media Foundation (EMF) who airs the "K-Love" format across the country. Essentially a deal was made that "K-Love" could enter the DFW market now.
UPDATE
RadioInsight reports "98.7 The Spot" changes KLUV call letters to KSPF as of June 26, 2023. The legendary KLUV calls will move to EMF's unbuilt station in Huron, South Dakota.
Oh, and last week in North Texas radio, iHeartMedia's "102.9 Now" KDMX returns to the "Mix 102.9" name it stopped using in 2012.
"We’re excited to bring MIX back to DALLAS-FT. WORTH," KDMX program director Jay Shannon told All Access. "The market not only remembers the brand but has continued referring to KDMX as 'MIX' over the last decade – we’re simply bringing back the brand the market knows and thinks of regarding 102.9, that’s all that changed! Stay tuned for some star talent additions as well!"
