UPDATE JUNE 2022
Sofia Ojeda leaves KPRC 2

She will be reporting three days a week.

Ojeda comes from WNEP northeastern Pennsylvania where she worked the last five years. For The Office fans, her station was located in Scranton. Hopefully the station's staff exclusively used Dunder Mifflin paper products.

She was the station's weeknight 7, 10 and 11pm anchor - working her way up from reporter and then weekend anchor.

According to her bio, Ojeda also worked as an anchor/reporter for WETM in Elmira, NY and WIVT/WBGH in Binghamton, NY. She started her career in NYC as a WABC desk assistant and freelance reporter for News 12 the Bronx.

Hailing from Lima, Peru, Ojeda moved to the US as a child and grew up in New Jersey. She is a graduate of The College of New Jersey with a degree in Communications.

KPRC 2's Sofia Ojeda is pregnant

UPDATE DECEMBER 01, 2016
KPRC 2's Sofia Ojeda welcomes baby

KPRC 2 weekend morning anchor Sofia Ojeda is due soon

Here is some Houston TV baby news on the sly.

KPRC 2's Sofia Ojeda is pregnant but you probably can't tell yet on TV as the weekend morning anchor posted:

"Looks may be deceiving behind the desk but it's now 2 months to go!!! Let the countdown begin!!"

In comparison to some other Houston TV folks, she's keeping it pretty quiet on Facebook too, with only a total of two mentions I saw on her Facebook timeline over the past months.

See how she quietly announced it:

UPDATE OCTOBER 07, 2017
Jacob Rascon debuts as anchor on KPRC 2

I'm getting questions about KPRC 2 weekend morning anchor Sofia Ojeda.

She posted a goodbye note today on her Facebook page.

"Bittersweet day!!! Last day on the weekend mornings with my most favorite peeps!! Will always remember our great times!!"

But don't get freak out...she's not leaving the station that I know of.

She's saying goodbye because next weekend, former NBC News correspondent Jacob Rascon takes her chair behind the news desk along side Anoushah Rasta.

I hear Ojeda will still report for the station.

Ojeda has been anchoring weekends since she arrived at the station in 2015.

UPDATE WITH OFFICIAL KPRC 2 PRESS RELEASE:

October 31, 2022 – Houston, TX – We are excited to announce that former KPRC 2 weekend news anchor Sofia Ojeda will return to anchor KPRC 2 News Today alongside Owen Conflenti, and anchor Lisa Hernandez will be promoted to the Midday, Noon and 4 p.m. newscasts. The move begins Monday, November 14, 2022.

Houston viewers will remember Ojeda from her seven years reporting, and most recently anchoring KPRC 2 News Today Weekends. Prior to KPRC 2, Ojeda served as an anchor/reporter at WNEP 6 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, anchor/reporter at WTEM 18 in Elmira, New York, and anchor/reporter at WIVT/WBGH NewsChannel 34 in Binghamton, New York.

Born in Lima, Peru, Sofia moved to the U.S. as a child, growing up in New Jersey.  She is a graduate of The College of New Jersey with a degree in Communications and is fluent in Spanish.

Lisa Hernandez joined KPRC 2 in June 2020 as co-anchor of KPRC 2 News Today with Owen Conflenti and KPRC 2 News Midday with Andy Cerota. Prior to KPRC 2, Hernandez anchored in Houston for 8 years. This new shift will allow her to bring her journalism skillset to an entirely new audience.

“KPRC 2 has a wealth of current and former talent,” says KPRC 2 Vice President & General Manager Phil Lane. “I’m thrilled that Sofia will be returning to KPRC 2 News Today and so happy to be able to promote Lisa to the afternoons where she will continue her great work as an important and valuable part of our team.”

Christine Noรซl has announced she is leaving KPRC 2.  A valued part of our KPRC 2 News team, Christine joined us in February 2019 and has gone on to anchor our Noon & 4:00 p.m. newscasts, also filling in at 5, 6 & 10 p.m.  During her time at KPRC 2, Christine has covered numerous stories, including the 2020/21 Tokyo Olympics, the Astros 2021 trip to the World Series, and played a pivotal role in our Bells for Abigail series.

“We want to thank Christine Noรซl for her hard work and professionalism,” says KPRC 2 Vice President & General Manager Phil Lane. “We wish her all the best as she pursues her next chapter in life.”

Sofia Ojeda returns to KPRC weekend morning anchor desk

UPDATE JANUARY 09, 2018
Anoushah Rasta joins NBC Bay Area

The more things change, the more they stay the same on the KPRC 2 weekend morning newscasts.

This morning, former weekend morning anchor Sofia Ojeda returned to the anchor desk along side newer addition Jacob Rascon.

And it was a total dance party as you will see from the embedded video below.

Let's see if I can recall all of this.

I posted on October 1, 2017 that Ojeda was leaving the weekend morning show.

That next week newly hired NBC correspondent Jacob Rascon took her place.

A little more than a month later, anchor Anoushah Rasta left channel 2.

From what I understand, that left Rascon to solo-anchor through the holidays.

Well, alone no more, Rascon now has a new co-anchor (for him) with Ojeda (but a return for the audience).

And speaking of Rascon, the Houston Chronicle's Cary Darling interviewed me about his hiring at KPRC in a feature piece on the new Houston anchor.

I make some bold predictions about Rascon's future. Click to see what they are.

Sofรญa Ojeda's KPRC 2 return is here

Sofia Ojeda returns to the KPRC 2 weekday morning news Monday, November 14, 2022 alongside Owen Conflenti.

Ojeda left her weekend morning anchor role in June of 2022.

Moving from KPRC 2 News Today to the channel 2 Midday, Noon and 4pm newscasts is anchor Lisa Hernandez who joined the Houston NBC affiliate from KHOU 11 in April 2020.

"Today was one of the sweetest days. I came back to [KPRC 2] to do what I love with the people and community I adore," tweeted Ojeda.  "Thank you for all the #love and welcome back hugs. Here’s to many more #bright and #early #mornings with this incredible #team. Wake up with us Monday at 4:30 am!!"

"I’m thrilled that Sofia will be returning to KPRC 2 News Today and so happy to be able to promote Lisa to the afternoons where she will continue her great work as an important and valuable part of our team," KPRC 2 Vice President & General Manager Phil Lane said in a release.

Anoushah Rasta leaves KPRC 2

UPDATE JANUARY 09, 2018
Anoushah Rasta joins NBC Bay Area

UPDATE JANUARY 06, 2018
Sofia Ojeda returns to KPRC weekend morning anchor desk

Eric Braate, Jacob Rascon and Anoushah Rasta when Rascon debuted

KPRC 2 weekend morning anchor Anoushah Rasta is packing up and heading west.

"Houston has been great, this has been a phenomenal experience, but I really miss my family and I want to be closer to them, you know it's been tough," an emotional Rasta told the KPRC 2 newsroom.

Rasta went on to joke she doesn't usually get this emotional.

At least she got a goodbye cake after her newsroom speech.

She made no mention of a new job, so we'll have to be on the lookout to see where she ends up next.

Rasta arrived at channel 2 back in 2014 from KTSM News Channel 9 El Paso where she had worked as a weekend anchor.

She started off her TV career in Los Angeles where she worked as a KABC-TV as a news assistant, apprentice and freelance traffic producer.

Now here is something to ponder as I know many like to do when there are Houston TV personnel changes.

We had NBC corespondent Jacob Rascon start anchoring weekend mornings in early October.

That meant that Rasta stayed on the anchor desk while co-anchor Sofia Ojeda left the weekend morning show to become a reporter.

With Rasta leaving, does that mean Ojeda returns to fill the spot next to the newly minted Rascon?

Stay tuned.

Jacob Rascon debuts as anchor on KPRC 2

UPDATE JANUARY 06, 2018
Sofia Ojeda returns to KPRC weekend morning anchor desk

We've been watching the promos for weeks, you've seen him report and now we get the official KPRC 2 anchor debut of Jacob Rascon along side Anoushah Rasta and Eric Braate who was filling in for Khambrel Marshall.

As I mentioned last weekend, Rascon is replacing Sofia Ojeda on the weekend morning anchor desk.

His last name kinda sounds familiar...right? Do you think he is related to anyone else on Houston TV?

I have never seen a weekend morning anchor receive this much publicity before his debut.

Then again...not many anchors show up fresh from working as NBC News correspondents.

Although channel 2's Keith Garvin did have ABC News correspondent experience in his past before his return to local TV.

I expect big things for Rascon at channel 2.

OK...I was just messing with you up top. Yes, he is the son of abc13 KTRK anchor Art Rascon.

You might be able to swap them, and if I didn't have my glasses on, I might not even notice. Then again, that might be why I'm writing a Houston media blog and not the inventor of Facebook.

No doubt Art is a proud papa.

Jacob Rascon is leaving KPRC 2

Jacob Rascon

Jacob Rascon is leaving KPRC 2 according to his weekend co-anchor Sofia Ojeda.

UPDATE MARCH 2025
Jacob Rascon joins KHOU 11 Houston

UPDATE
- Jacob Rascon moves to abc13 KTRK after KPRC 2
- Art Rascon to leave abc13 KTRK
- Dominique Sachse to leave KPRC 2

Here is what Ojeda tweeted.

"[Jacob Rason] is moving on from #kprc2 and we will miss him...but for Jacob, like so many of the good ones who come into your life in this #crazy #business, is not goodbye… it’s see ya later #friend. Good luck I know you’ll be #great."

Rascon's departure from channel 2 has been rumored for months.

Now here is the next rumor...is Jacob Rason joining his father, anchor Art Rascon, at abc13 KTRK? Could Jacob one day take over for Art?  One Rascon replacing another Rascon?  Has this ever been done at a TV station?

We'll wait and see if it happens.  Stay tuned.

New KPRC 2 hire Sabirah Rayford will take over Rascon's anchor role on weekend mornings with Ojeda and the multi-talented Khambrel Marshall.

I've been covering Rascon for many years on this blog.

Rascon joined KPRC in 2017 as a weekend morning anchor.

Before that the Emmy and Edward R. Murrow-award winning reporter was an NBC News correspondent, KNBC 4 Los Angeles reporter and KFOX 14 El Paso reporter.

(Thanks Luis!)

"KPRC 2 News Today at 10am" and 3pm news debut in September 2023

"KPRC 2 News Today at 10am" debuts Monday, September 11, 2023 as well as KPRC 2 News at 3pm.

I found out that "Today With Hoda & Jenna" will be moved to 11am where "KPRC 2 News Midday "followed by a repeat of "Entertainment Tonight" at 11:30am currently air.

UPDATE 8-30-2023
KPRC 2 is also adding a half-hour 3pm newscast starting 9-11-2023 replacing "Dr. Phil."  The above mentioned "Entertainment Tonight" rerun will air at 3:30pm now. The channel 2 Houston 3pm newscast will be anchored by Andy Cerota, Lisa Hernandez and meteorologist Justin Stapleton.

For those keeping score, this is one of those newscast additions I hinted about back in July.

Morning anchors Owen Conflenti and Sofia Ojeda will be behind the anchor desk, and the above video is of the AM duo rehearsing for the new newscast.

"The 10am will not be all news," Ojeda posted.  "There will be lighthearted stories and lots of moments KPRC2 Owen Conflenti and I will share with y’all on daily topics and what everyone is talking about."

Conflenti says in the above video that meteorologist Justin Stapleton will contribute his beer segment to the newscast.

This is an actual over-the-air TV newscast addition...not a new streaming show for KPRC 2+.

As for streaming, Conflenti and Ojeda are apparently handing their 7am KPRC2+ show over to medical reporter Haley Hernandez and consumer reporter Amy Davis.

Just last week, "KPRC2+ Now" at 9 debuted with Zach Lashway and Hernandez.

The streaming-only KPRC 2+ debuted in April of 2022.

KPRC 2 dumped its 4:30am newscast in January of 2023.

Daniella Guzman moving to KPRC 2 mornings

Daniella Guzman

Houston, TX – November 11, 2025 – KPRC 2 today announced that Daniella Guzman will move to the morning anchor desk, joining Sofia Ojeda as co-anchor of KPRC 2 News Today beginning December 1, 2025.

- Owen Conflenti leaves KPRC 2 Houston
- Watch the first Guzman morning promo

The move marks an intentional step in KPRC 2’s strategy to strengthen and refresh its morning newscasts, offering viewers a faster-paced, more dynamic blend of news, weather, and traffic coverage that helps Houston prepare for the day ahead.

“Daniella’s extensive experience anchoring morning news in Chicago and Los Angeles brings tremendous value to our newsroom,” said Ana Lastra, News Director, KPRC 2. “Her warmth, energy, and deep connection to Houston make her the perfect partner for Sofia as we evolve our mornings to better serve viewers.”

Guzman, a Houston native, returned to KPRC 2 in 2022 after spending more than a decade with NBC 5 Chicago and NBC 4 Los Angeles. She is a multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist and active community volunteer, known for her approachable style and passion for telling stories that uplift and inform.

“I’m thrilled to join Sofia and our talented morning team,” said Guzman. “Mornings in Houston are vibrant and full of energy, and I’m excited to help our viewers start their day with the news and information that matters most to them.”

This change is part of KPRC 2’s ongoing initiative to reimagine its morning newscast, with a focus on viewer-centered storytelling, live coverage, and community solutions that support the station’s mission to make Houston a better place to live.

KPRC 2 replaces 10am news with Drew Barrymore

KPRC 2 Houston will replace its new 10 a.m. newscast with "The Drew Barrymore Show" starting August 12, 2024, when the Olympics coverage ends.

"We are thrilled to bring The Drew Barrymore Show to our audience," said KPRC 2 VP/General Manager Phil Lane. "Drew's unique blend of optimism, humor, and heartfelt conversations aligns perfectly with our mission to provide uplifting and engaging content."

"KPRC 2 News Today at 10am" was launched in September 2023 along with a new 3pm newscast.

The 10am news crew of  Owen Conflenti, Sofia Ojeda, Justin Stapleton, and Justina Latimer will remain on the KPRC 2 morning news from 5am to 7am and offer reports throughout the day.

"The 10am will not be all news," Ojeda posted at the time of the 10am newscast launch.  "There will be lighthearted stories and lots of moments KPRC2 Owen Conflenti and I will share with y’all on daily topics and what everyone is talking about."

According to the show's website, "The Drew Barrymore Show" airs weekdays at 3 a.m. on CW39 Houston KIAH.

Fans of Barrymore might want to watch her play the Texas city name game and do the local DFW weather segment which I've featured before on this blog.

Starting today, the KPRC 2 Houston evening anchor fills in for morning anchor Owen Conflenti.

UPDATE: KPRC viewers tell me that Conflenti returned with Guzman and morning co-anchor Sofรญa Ojeda was seen on Guzman's normal evening newscasts.  I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist here, but it all kinda makes me wonder if they are trying out different anchor pairs and watching the reaction.  If I'm wrong, I will just start watching New Jersey drone videos with my tinfoil hat on.

"Yes, I'm saying good morning," she posted in a Facebook video.  "Do you know how long it's been since I have had a cup of coffee on a set like this?  It’s almost 5:00 in the morning, and I’m filling in for the morning show, and so I'm off nights for this whole week."

Guzman's 5, 6, and 10 p.m. viewers will notice her absence during the week as she temporarily shifts to mornings, but these aren't exactly new hours for the seasoned anchor. Before returning to Houston night TV, Guzman was no stranger to morning shows, having anchored for the NBC-owned stations in Chicago and Los Angeles.

"I love morning shows! They’re a lot of fun," Guzman said with a smile.

While her evening audience will miss her for a week, Guzman is excited to join her KPRC 2 morning colleagues, including Sofia Ojeda at the AM newsdesk.

"A lot of people taking off, we're all helping each other out," she added.
