KVUE Austin dedicates newsroom in honor of Carole Kneeland

KVUE held a ceremony to dedicate its newsroom in honor of the Austin station's former News Director and Vice President of News, Carole Kneeland, on March 20, 2024.

"Carole Kneeland created a legacy that we’re honored to celebrate," said KVUE Austin President and GM Byron Wilkinson. "She challenged the status quo and raised the standards of ethical journalism, not only at KVUE but across the country. She has a lasting impact on our past, current, and future journalists, and it’s an absolute honor to formally dedicate our newsroom to her."

Throughout her nine years there, Kneeland served first as its News Director and later as its VP of News Operations.

A pioneer in journalism, Kneeland established forward-thinking standards and practices, particularly in the realm of crime reporting. She also dedicated herself to mentoring young journalists.

Although Kneeland's news career was tragically cut short in 1998 due to her battle with breast cancer, her influence persists through the Carole Kneeland Project for Responsible Journalism, seeking to enhance local news quality.

“Carole Kneeland was a visionary leader. She advocated for the continued training of news teams to make them better journalists," KVUE News Director Travis Sattiewhite, a Kneeland Fellow himself, said. "Dedicating our newsroom to her is a constant reminder to every journalist that walks through the doors at KVUE of what we stand for."
