She excelled in the TV news world and now she is doing the same on YouTube. After hitting a million YouTube subscribers, KPRC 2 anchor Dominique Sachse is appearing on NBC's TODAY Show 9am CST, Monday, October 7th.

Her appearance is not for news anchoring, but her YouTube channel.

Here is an interesting fact, and I've been meaning to blog about this for months, but here is the perfect time to talk about it, Sachse has more YouTube subscribers than any Houston TV station including her own.

Dominique Sachse is having more fun?

KPRC 2 anchor Dominique Sachse goes blonde

Remember in 2013 when KPRC 2 anchor Dominique Sachse changed her hair in a major way and her viewers couldn't stop talking about it?

Dominique Sachse, KPRC 2 anchor, has changed her hairstyle by extending its length and viewers are giving it two scissors up by saying it's a cut above the rest (I ran out of cliches after those).

Hold on for a moment...what was I on back then when I wrote that? I'll have some of what me back then was having.

Anyway, 2019 proves to be another Sachse hair "break the Internet" moment since I've already starting hearing about her new do in real life.

Now Sachse is a blonde!

"My new summer hair look is a big, bold, blonde move," Sachse wrote. "Big changes like these get us out of our comfort zone and enable us to celebrate bravery."

At least this year, Sachse has a YouTube channel where you can watch the entire blonding process (embedded above). At the time of me writing this, her video is nearly at 100,000 views.

Now here is my blonde confession.

I was blonde as a child. Then my hair started getting darker as I got older. I guess the darkening process started for me around high school. So I got this bright idea to use one of those sprays that was supposed to have the effect of the sun and lighten it. Well being 14, I think I got a little too excited and my hair almost started looking greenish. Luckily this was in the grunge music era, so people probably thought I was channeling my inner Kurt Cobain. Maybe I should have gotten a Dominique Sachse tattoo back then to complete the look?

Dominique Sachse updates us on husband's terrible accident

Dominique Sachse and husband Nick Florescu have good news concerning his recent accident

This Father's Day, KPRC 2 anchor Dominique Sachse and her children are thankful her husband/their father, Nick Florescu, has recovered from a scary accident he had back in late March.

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2021
Dominique Sachse to leave KPRC 2

"While cleaning out the pool with the kids, he tripped and face planted on the pool’s edge, cutting himself up pretty badly and breaking three fingers on his dominant hand, though not the middle one," Sachse posted months ago on Facebook.

In her recent YouTube video on Gift Giving Guide For Your Guy!, Sachse and Florescu give us the positive recovery update.

"Well I'm feeling great, I mean, I've been so fortunate that it wasn't worse and really the accident could have been horrible," Florescu said in the video. "I'm recovering and everything is going to be fine. And I think about the people who have much more serious things to worry about. All of my injuries are repairable, I probably have a little extra wrinkle to add to my age."

"Everybody says he looks like [actor] Dermot Mulroney and I think its just added to it, so its all good," Sachse added.

Immediately after the accident, Sachse published a video talking about Life’s Hiccups & How To Deal which I embedded below.

The couple just celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary.

UPDATE APRIL 2022
Dominique Sachse returns to KPRC on "Houston Life"

"Nick and I are getting a divorce," Sachse said in the video. "While on one level, some marriages may look storybook in nature, one never knows what's going on inside somebody's home. Let alone their marriage. And you know, I think out of respect to the judicial process, I believe any further discussion in the court of public opinion just simply isn't right."

"And you know, I have genuinely appreciated the collective concern and response and you know it's all I feel comfortable saying about the matter right now, but I do want you to know that I appreciate your support," Sachse added. "I appreciate your love, and I appreciate you being with me. You know, I'm not the only one out there who is going through something like this."

Many readers have been asking me about the status of Sachse and Florescu's marriage based on what they were seeing on social media, but I did not have any information to offer.

Now Sachse sets the record straight and even shows us her new home.

Florescu and Sachse got engaged in Rome in 2011 and were married in 2012 at the River Oaks home of John and Becca Cason Thrash. Lakewood Church Pastor Joel Osteen performed the wedding ceremony.

Readers of a Houston media blog will be interested to know that Sachse reveals in the video she is not planning on returning to TV news.

You can watch the other 80 something answers Sachse provides in the above video.

For those living under a rock, Sachse announced she was leaving KPRC 2 in September 2021 and officially signed off in October of the same year.

Sachse's book "Life Makeover: Embrace the Bold, Beautiful, and Blessed You" will be released April 5, 2022.

Dominique Sachse talks about new podcast

Dominique Sachse announced her new project "Over 50 & Flourishing with Dominique Sachse" and is giving mikemcguff.com readers a deeper look into the new podcast.

The podcast's summary is:

"Welcome to over 50 & Flourishing with Dominique Sachse, the show for any woman who feels like she lost her compass in the sea of midlife. I’m here to tell you it’s never too late to change your course and awaken the healthy, wise and beautiful woman within. Let’s celebrate growing older together and embrace our prime. It’s our time!"

Mike McGuff: Will this give you a chance to explore issues that you didn't have time to pursue in a newscast?

Dominique Sachse: Unlike my time in news, this podcast gives me an opportunity to explore topics and areas of interest that pertain to my demographic, which is women in midlife and beyond.  I get to flush out ideas that are near and dear to our hearts. Living our best in this time of life, making healthy choices, being upfront about the struggles of the sandwich generation, managing menopause, addressing relationships, careers, friendships, finances, toxic behaviors or choices, all while pressing into our faith. While my audience is made up primarily of women, I’m also going to make sure there are topics that cover the midlife male in their lives as well.

MM: Will it be nice to have as much time as you want to cover a topic, versus the two minutes you might get for a TV news package?

DS: It’s a journalist’s dream to be able to have 45 minutes to an hour to really have an in-depth, intelligent discussion to cover a subject. The beauty is, some people are so multifaceted and insightful, they can be repeat guests. Also, with the technology today, I can interview anyone from anywhere, although my preference is to be in person, sitting side by side, to have that genuine conversation. We have so many innovators, thought-provokers and difference makers right here in our own backyard.

Where is Dominique Sachse?

Dominique Sachse goes MIA from KPRC's 5pm news

Dominique Sachse
Dominique Sachse

Where is Dominique Sachse? Why isn't Dominique Sachse on the channel 2 5pm news? Curious viewers are asking me about the popular anchor's whereabouts.

Don't worry, Sachse tells me everything is OK. In fact, she's going to be on the NBC affiliate's 6 and 10pm news for a long time to come.

But after many years of delivering the early evening news to Houston viewers, Sachse has stopped anchoring KPRC's 5pm newscast to focus on some other important issues.

"From my perspective, I feel very fortunate to work for a company that understands and respects my desire to always find a balance between work, family and community," Sachse told mikemcguff.com. "Freeing up the 5pm newscast allows me more family and after-school time."

The change became effective March 30th. So who is filling the vacancy?

That job goes to 4pm anchor Lauren Freeman. So that means Freeman fans now get an hour and a half of the proud Baylor Bear.

Top mikemcguff.com posts for 2012

Every year I slack off like every other blog and run highlights of the past year. So here you go, the top Houston media stories of 2012 by pageviews. So that means the readers decided this list by what they clicked on most throughout the year.

1. KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse gets engaged in Rome
I wrote this post in October 2011 and it's still tops in 2012. Yes, that many people search for news on KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse and her engagement/wedding.

I hate to tell the haters this, but this post had three times the traffic of the number two post. From my blog's perspective, Sachse is the most popular talent in Houston.

Here is the actual wedding post - KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse weds Nick Florescu.

2. Wayne Dolcefino and KTRK 13 divorce
The news of Wayne Dolcefino leaving KTRK 13 officially came the day before Thanksgiving. That means this number 2 post has only been up for around a month. Wow!

I said this would be the biggest media story of 2012 at the time, and I almost stopped blogging for the rest of the year.

Good thing I didn't...one other story was about to happen that would almost be as big (more on this below).

See photos from Wayne Dolcefino's goodbye party, plus what he's doing next.

3. Gene Norman out at KHOU 11
Another big story in November, just before the Wayne Dolcefino post. Gene Norman's departure from KHOU 11 proved that some of the biggest media stories happened at the end of 2012.

4. KPRC 2's Frank Billingsley weds partner of 17 years
This is the post I talked about before. KPRC 2 chief meteorologist Frank Billingsley's marriage to his longtime partner happened in mid-December, and readers haven't stopped reading it since.

5. Nnete departs 97.9 The Box KBXX Madd Hatta Morning Show
When 97.9 The Box KBXX morning show co-host Nnete Inyangumia left the station, it shocked a lot of people. She left for Foxxhole on Sirius XM channel.

6. KHOU 11's Chita Johnson from KRCR can dance and rap
What can I say about KHOU 11 meteorologist Chita Johnson? Clearly she has fans. This post was written in July of 2011 and people are still accessing it all the time.

7. KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse and Nick Florescu's new wedding plans
Remember when I said KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse was popular? Here is another wedding post, this time from 2012, that made it big.

8. KPRC 2's Jennifer Reyna promoted to anchor
If you have been a longtime reader here, you know KPRC 2's Jennifer Reyna has always been a popular topic. This post was from September 2011 and is still hot.

9. KHOU 11's Christine Haas to KNSD 7 NBC San Diego
KHOU 11 morning anchor Christine Haas surprised viewers when she headed west to KNSD 7 NBC San Diego. Stay classy.

10. Sam Malone says 700 KSEV let him go
The news of Sam Malone getting fired from 700 KSEV happened on the same weekend that KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse got married. It was probably the biggest weekend my blog ever had.
- Sam Malone and Maria Todd together again?

11. KPRC 2 hires fmr. beauty queen, Sharron Melton vs Lily Jang and more
This post covered four topics, but it was the last one that generated all of the traffic. It made number 11 on the list because of KPRC 2 reporter Alexandra Lewis who was a former Miss Louisiana. Ca c'est bon.

12. KTRK 13 hires Crystal Kobza, formerly of KOB
The day reporter Crystal Kobza showed up on KTRK 13, I had tons of emails from excited male viewers. No surprise she makes the number 12 post. Hate to disappoint all of her fans, but I hear Kobza has left the station after her freelance gig ended.

13. Mix 96.5 KHMX dumps Kidd Kraddick; going local
While Kidd Kraddick didn't apparently heat up mornings on Mix 96.5 KHMX, he still has a bunch of fans that wondered what happened to the show after the station decided to go local.

14. KTRK 13's Casey Curry engaged
KTRK 13 meteorologist Casey Curry is probably one of the most popular talents on KTRK 13. When I write a post about her, it always does well with readers. In fact, I now know first hand, when she does a community event, she can fill a room with fans.
- KTRK 13's Casey Curry talks engagement

15. KHOU 11 puts Lily Jang in mornings from KCPQ Q13 Seattle
I just featured the post where KHOU 11 morning anchor Christine Haas took off for San Diego. Here is the post concerning her replacement. Lily Jang has massive popularity on social media, so no surprise she makes the 15th slot.
- KHOU's Lily Jang talks morning drama & chemistry

Dominique Sachse to leave KPRC 2

KPRC 2 bids adieu to beloved anchor Dominique Sachse after nearly three decades as one of Houston’s most recognizable faces and voices.

UPDATE APRIL 2022
Dominique Sachse returns to KPRC on "Houston Life"

UPDATE NOVEMBER 1, 2021

UPDATE OCTOBER 29, 2021
Dominique Sachse signs off KPRC 2

ANNOUNCED THE SAME DAY
- Art Rascon to leave abc13 KTRK
- Jacob Rascon moves to abc13 KTRK after KPRC 2

She will sign off for the last time Friday, October 29, 2021, on KPRC 2 News at 6 p.m.

Over the next month, KPRC 2 viewers can expect to see a lot more of the Emmy award-winning journalist as the station celebrates her and showers her with the well wishes she so richly deserves.

Dominique has proudly called Houston home since her arrival in 1975.  She is a graduate of Spring Branch I.S.D.’s Memorial High School, and the University of Houston with a radio/television journalism degree.  She joined KPRC 2 in 1993.

“You always know that days like this will come in the television business,” says Vice President & General Manager Jerry Martin. “That doesn’t make it any easier to say goodbye to someone who feels like Houston’s sweetheart.  We wish Dominique all the best; she will always be considered a Houston institution and a part of our KPRC 2 family!”

Dominique’s career began in local radio, as a Metro Traffic reporter for a variety of stations. One of those stations, MIX 96.5, hired her as a disc jockey, where she worked for the next two years on the overnight and then late-night shifts.

She seized an opportunity at KPRC 2 in 1993 for the morning show traffic position as she continued to pursue her career in journalism.  All it took was one week as a fill-in anchor for Houston-area viewers to witness her passion and professionalism after her live coverage of the San Jacinto River fire. Since then, Dominique’s intensity yet ease on the anchor desk, as well as her down-to-earth demeanor, have been revered by Houston viewers and the rest is history as they say.

Dominique anchors KPRC 2 News at 6 and 10 p.m. and works on special reports throughout the year. Some highlights include covering President George Bush's inauguration in January 2001 and Pope John Paul II's visit to Mexico City canonizing Juan Diego in 2002.

In 2006, she presented a compelling series on inflammatory breast cancer, along with a phone bank to answer viewers' questions.  She also traveled to London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016 to cover the Olympics

Dominique's work has been honored with countless awards from both the journalism and Houston community, including spot news coverage from The Houston Press Club and the Texas Associated Press. Dominique received the "Outstanding Young Communications Alumna" and "Distinguished Alumni" awards from UH. She was named 2002 and 2007's "Best Television Personality" by the Houston Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television, and newscasts she has anchored have won multiple Lone Star Emmy awards.  Some of her favorite recognitions, however, come from the community. Readers of the Houston Press and Houston Chronicle choose Dominique as their favorite when it comes to best newscaster or local personality.

Dominique will focus on a new book she has been working on since 2018 called “Life Makeover: Embrace the Bold, Beautiful, and Blessed You” (ORDER HERE). It will be released on April 5, 2022.  She will also focus on continuing to expand her social media empire, as her YouTube channel already has an impressive 1.52M subscribers.

“I have spent most of my adult life at KPRC, and the staff here is like family to me.  It’s that daily one-on-one interaction that I’ll miss the most.  It takes a team effort to produce a quality news product, and I’m so proud of this team’s character, integrity, and accomplishments.  But it’s mainly service to community, which is how I’ve always seen my role and will continue to do so in my new endeavors,” says Dominique Sachse. “I sincerely can’t thank the viewers enough for welcoming me into their homes for as long as they have and making me feel like their friend or neighbor.  Truly blessed.”

We will miss the professionalism, kindness, and grace Dominique brought through the doors of KPRC 2 every day and wish her well during her next chapter.  This is not goodbye but see you later.

You can keep up with Dominique and learn more about her through her website www.dominiquesachse.tv.

KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse gets engaged in Rome

UPDATE
KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse and Nick Florescu's new wedding plans

Photobucket

Love is in the air for KPRC 2 anchor Dominique Sachse. The Queen of the Houston social scene reporting, Shelby Hodge, is reporting that Sachse is engaged:

It's official: KPRC Ch. 2 news anchor Dominique Sachse and international businessman Nick Florescu, a steady duo for more than a year, are engaged. Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome popped the question to the native Houston beauty last week on the last night of a holiday in Rome.

[snip]

No exact date is yet set but Dominique says only half joking that it will probably have to be planned around sweeps and hurricane season, which means March, April or early June of next year. The crux is to convince KPRC management to let Dominique's co-anchor Bill Balleza and meteorologist Frank Billingsley and herself all be off at the same time. READ THE FULL DETAILS

Some of you will know how TV bosses can be about vacations crossing into sweeps and hurricane season.

As for Nick Florescu, all I know about him is from the Internet. Described as a businessman, Florescu has been mentioned in Hodge's columns before (back to her Houston Chronicle days). Another page says he is the Honorary Consul General for the Consulate of Romania.

Here is a photo of Florescu and Sachse at the Dancing with the Houston Stars ballet benefit at the home of Becca and John Thrash from May 10, 2011.

Congrats to the couple.

Dominique Sachse addresses hateful comments

Dominique Sachse addresses the negativity and mean-spirited comments she has been receiving online in her latest "Over 50 & Flourishing" podcast video.

Here is Sachse's podcast episode summary:

"April is almost here, so let’s ask the real question—am I the fool? This week, I’m switching things up and diving into your comments—yes, even the not-so-nice ones. From opinions on my looks to my life and marriage, I’m reading them all and responding with honesty, humor, and a little perspective. Let’s talk about handling criticism with grace, shutting down the noise, and why, at the end of the day, your opinion of yourself matters most."

What sparked this episode was the reaction Sachse received for her new, longer hairstyle.  As someone who has covered Sachse for nearly 20 years, newsflash, she likes to change her hair (examples 2013, 2019, 2021).

Sachse observed a shift in the tone of online comments over the past five to six years, attributing it to the influence of social media, cultural changes, the pandemic, and politics.

The former KPRC 2 and Merit Street Media anchor shares examples of mockery and personal attacks related to her appearance, including comments about her nose hair, lips, and eyelash extensions. The criticisms also focus on aging to her Christian faith.

She also mentions hurtful comments made about her marriage to husband Vic Mignogna and her past relationships.

But this podcast is not all negative.  Sachse highlights some positive comments, stressing the importance of allowing people to change without harsh judgment.

Dominique Sachse hair surprise 2021

Dominique Sachse has surprised us in 2021 with a hair color change with stylist Cerón.

Just as the temps will start heating up, the KPRC 2 anchor is going with a warmer color, plus tape-in extensions.

I will admit, I did not know what tape-in extensions were until this new Sachse video.

Anytime Sachse changes her hair, it seems to break the Houston internet based on my blog's analytics.  In fact, she was even ready to shave my head a few years ago.

And as an update, since Sachse was on NBC's Today right as her YouTube hit one million subscribers, the famous anchor has now hit 1.44 million subs!

Could be one of the reasons channel 2 Houston viewers are apparently getting Sachse tattoos.

Dominique Sachse leaves Merit Street Media

Dominique Sachse announced Sunday evening that she is leaving Dr. Phil McGraw's Merit Street Media located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

"I have sincerely enjoyed my time at MeritTV and working with all the wonderfully talented people there. It's been an honor to be part of a startup network from its inception. However, my heart is telling me it's time to pivot.

With this in mind, I am stepping away from MeritTV. I'm thrilled to return to full-time content creation and entrepreneurship, dedicating my energy to empowering and uplifting incredible women who have been so supportive of me and our shared goals. Here's to what's next!"

"My darling, I know firsthand the thought and prayer you put into this decision," Sachse's husband Vic Mignogna commented on the Instagram post.  "Certainly not an easy one, but certainly the right one for you. I hope everyone sees the integrity and strength of character that I see in you. I adore you."

In August, Merit Street Media laid off, from what I was told, 40 to 60 staffers.

Sachse and co-anchor Fanchon Stinger helped launch the network in April 2024 with "Morning on Merit Street."  Her former KPRC 2 Houston co-anchor Kris Gutierrez was also with Merit from the start and anchors the evening newscast "The News on Merit Street."

Dominique Sachse is married to Vic Mignogna

Dominique Sachse revealed in a recent YouTube video that she is married to Vic Mignogna.

In a video last month, Sachse announced she was secretly married in June 2024.

"This very, very incredible, special, amazing person in my life...someone I've known since we're in our 20s, a long time friend, and somebody who actually lives in the Dallas Fort Worth area," Sachse said in the wedding reveal video.

And the secret of who Sachse's husband was remained until the latest video.

So, who is Vic Mignogna?

If you are into anime, then you will most likely know him as the voice of "Broly" in Dragon Ball films and games.  He is also an actor and just released the album "Up There Down Here."

Sachse, a former longtime KPRC 2 Houston evening anchor, now is a morning anchor for Dr. Phil McGraw’s Merit Street Media national network based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Last week, the network laid off parts of its staff.

Before TV, Dominique Sachse worked construction?

KPRC 2 anchor Dominique Sachse sat down with Houston Life to talk about her YouTube style and makeup channel, plus we learn things we've never heard about her past.

If my headline, made you click to get here, it's not just click bait, it is real. Sachse really did work on home renovations in her youth.

Those who have been in Houston for a while know Sachse got her start as a DJ on Mix 96.5 KHMX.

She moved over to KPRC as a morning traffic anchor. That's where I first saw her on TV.

The rest as they say is history.

Looking through my own Sachse blog posts over the years, it looks like I could create a post on "The top things you didn't know about Dominique Sachse."

Here's one thing you might not know, she almost shaved my head!

Dominique Sachse reveals all on YouTube

KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse has already conquered TV, so why not YouTube too?

Last year, KPRC 2 mega star anchor Dominique Sachse launched her own YouTube channel and it only proves the traditional media folks can conquer the new one. With nearly 43,000 subscribers and counting, Sachse is amassing quite the digital audience.

Now, I don't usually watch her channel's videos unless I'm prepping on getting my glam metal band "IFB" back together since most of the topics cover hair and makeup trends/advice. But this week, Sachse did a Q&A with viewers which gave us more insight into the anchor's life. Oh, and if the answers aren't revealing enough, it appears she records from her elegant home bathroom.

First of all, did you know Sachse's first name came from the work of Ayn Rand? That's right...taken from the character of Dominique Francon in The Fountainhead! Here's the CliffsNotes version.

Sachse also answers questions on her blended family, her favorite color to wear, dealing with haters who "have keyboard courage," and even her tattoos? Well, just watch to find out more about the last one. And no, it's not this tattoo.

Overall, I think you will find it a pretty uplifting and honest video. Personally I need to follow her advice and get more sleep. Enjoy!

And here is a personal tease...I'm going to use Sachse's social media work as a person to emulate in my "Creating Your Brand Through the Power of Social Media" presentation this weekend. It all goes down at the "NewsGathering: Diversity in the Digital Age" conference taking place at Rice University on Saturday.
