UPDATE 2/20/2013
Mix 96.5 KHMX moves Blake Hayes to mornings
I tweeted this out last night and got such a reaction, that I'm blogging about it too.
The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Mix 96.5 KHMX is dropping the Dallas-based syndicated morning show Kidd Kraddick in the Morning. Kidd and crew were on in Houston for a little more than a year.
You might remember that Kraddick replaced the legendary 104.1 KRBE morning host Maria Todd and co-host Brad Booker. Todd moved over to News 92 FM KROI. Booker left for country powerhouse KWNR-AM in Las Vegas.
The Chron says that KHMX producer John Paul Stevenson aka “Producer JP” will take over until a full-time replacement is found. By the way, Stevenson is the Rockets’ PA dude at the Toyota Center.
Guess until someone is officially hired for Mix 96.5 mornings, we can just watch for Maria Todd and Sam Malone sightings around town.
Don't worry about Kidd Kraddick, you can still catch him on TV in Houston.

Mix 96.5 KHMX moves Blake Hayes to mornings

Should Sam Malone have stayed at 104.1 KRBE?
Mike, we will miss talking to Houston each morning. I want to say thanks to all who became fans of the show...especially those who contributed to my charity Kidd's Kids. Because of you, we were able to take several Houston families with special needs children on the trip to Disney.
ReplyDeleteDon't know Sam very well but I worked with Maria and I LOVE her. If she comes back to Houston, I wish her all the success in the world.
Thanks for letting me comment...
Kidd
Kidd, thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI'm really bummed out. This was the first I've heard about it. My daughter and I thought y'all just took Thanksgiving week off. :(
DeleteKidd, you are a class act unlike members of another radio show with an alliterative title. Thank you for all the good you continue to do with Kidd's Kids. I've been listening to you on your kpod all week!
DeleteKidd, you are a GREAT talent and love your Kidd's kids interviews.
DeleteKidd, I listened to ya'll when I lived in Dallas and San Antonio, I was so sad when I moved back to Houston and then to my surprise you were here I was so excited, now you are gone again, such a bummer.
DeleteI'm totally bummed too! My mom and I (I'm 39 and she's 61) both listened to Kidd in the mornings and would talk about his show when we would see each other. We too thought they were on vacation but when he wasn't back on I googled trying to find out what was up. I still have the Kidd TV ap though! So sad I can't listen on the way to work as easily anymore :(
DeleteWill miss the show Kidd.
DeleteJust looked up why Kidd and the crew weren't on anymore. I really enjoyed listening to them in the mornings - gonna miss the hearing all of them.
DeleteI too have been wondering what was going on with the show and this is what I find? I love their morning show, they are a hilarious bunch. I don't understand why all the good morning crews get cancelled. This is a travesty. Now what am I suppose to listen to??
DeleteOh, no! Not another morning talk-show....what Houston needs is tons and tons of music (more that the 20 song rotation "Day after Day!"). Please............
ReplyDeleteMarty McFly: "Now, Biff, you really mean a larger playlist don't you?"
DeleteDon't worry. You guys will be back! This is a big market you can't let it go! Hot 95.7 seems more of your format and you'll fit in there.
ReplyDeleteMike correction: They are getting rid of Dish Nation on FOX 26.
Wow, that was quick.
DeleteDish Nation bombed here in Houston. It's good in places like Jacksonville or Atlanta or even Chicago. But not Houston. That's why in January 1, 2013, Dish Nation will be replaced on KRIV-TV.
DeleteWhere's the proof?? Otherwise, ITS NOT HAPPENING!!!
DeleteRodryan, walton jouhnson and roula ryan only entertaining shows to me
ReplyDeleteElvis, Ricky help?
ReplyDelete96.5 butchered Kidd Kraddick! They would cut off midshow/interview and it was really hard to follow. I grew up listening to Kidd, Kelly & Al and was excited to have them follow me to Houston. 96.5 did not even give them a chance to get a following by cutting in with music. If they do that to every show there will never be a winning show on this station.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the poster above! I hated how they would cut segments short. I am so bummed! I will continue to listen to Kidd on my android app because there are certainly no other morning shows in Houston worth my time.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me. Seeing as how the P.D. is such a V.I.P. on the music format change, shouldn't we keep the M.D. and the G.M. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if the format change leaks to the CORP H.Q., the P.D. could be out of a J.O.B.
ReplyDeleteWe are all talking about the nonsensical ravings of lunatic minds!
ReplyDeleteHey, time out…I believe the P.D. should change to an expanded music play list and deep/live cuts 24/7 because the P.D. is good enough, smart enough, and, doggonit, people love him/her for it!!!
ReplyDeleteAh, the good ole daze of “96 and a half KAUM” when radio was real radio and music was real music!
ReplyDeleteMost pd's don't hire people that have talent. They hire people that kiss their ass, tell them want they want to hear and never disagree with them. That's why ratings suck and people don't listen!
ReplyDeleteThere's a chick they have on during the day on hot that annoys the hell out of me. She speaks like there is a period after every two words and does not know how to speak proper English. I stopped listening, because she is so bad.
ReplyDeleteCant say Houston will miss Kidd and his show. When they had a 3 yr contract signed and it only lasted a little over a year that should tell you something! Houston loves their local DJ's! Hope to see Maria back on air.
ReplyDeleteHappy Fappiano everyone!!!!
ReplyDeleteHeard it might be Sam Malone and Maria Todd, is this really going to happen?
ReplyDeleteMusic Talks, Talk Walks......
ReplyDeleteYea, CBS will simulcast KHMX with it AM stations and put Sports Talk on……
ReplyDeleteNine out of 10 advertisers agree that listeners have found the “Off Button” when it comes to Talk Radio (AM/FM) and Talk TV….. Music Radio, what a concept!!!! What-A-Concept!
ReplyDeleteDJs, Music and Jingles, Oh My!
ReplyDeleteDJs, Music and Jingles, Oh My!
DJs, Music and Jingles, Oh My!
Advertisers are throwing advertising dollars down the rat hole in the Houston Radio/TV Market.
ReplyDeleteI Think We're All Bozos on This Bus!
ReplyDeleteMusic rocks! {In Klingon} ==> QoQ lets!
ReplyDelete"Invisible airwaves crackle with life
ReplyDeleteBright antenna bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free "
---Rush, "Spirit of Radio" (in the music sense).
The yutes (20/30 somethings) of today have forgotten the Spanish contributions to the Rock & Roll Era in USA music such as EL CHICANO and "VIVA TIRADO." The coolest of cool tunes..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1lMu3cPwyY
ReplyDeleteSavy!! From the CD: Latin Oldies.
New here... Great blog btw... But can't resist this one. As a mom who drives in the am.. 96.5 is HORRIBLE. Kelly has the most annoying female voice u have ever heard. I'm glad she's gone.
ReplyDeletePoor Mix, they are so mixed-up…..just go expanded Classics Format….
ReplyDeleteFeliz Navidad, you-all!!
ReplyDeleteI really liked listening to Kidd and the show members. Mix 96.5 always gets rid of good talent. I'm getting sick of the idiots at Mix 96.5 and would not go back if 104.1 wasn't 100 times more annoying with Roula & Ryan.
ReplyDeleteWill listen to Kidd on my ipod now.
I loved listening to Kid Kraddik in the morning. They were by far the most entertaining. Rula's voice is excrutiating.
ReplyDeleteSam Malone talked down to the listeners and I got really tired of that but I LOVE Maria Todd. I cannot stand Roula's voice or her arrogant attitude. Ryan Chase could do a better job without her. I guess I will listen to Sirius or Pandora.
ReplyDeleteJust like music, Penny and Nickel Coins to be Phased Out in 2013.
ReplyDeleteCBS is tumescence with themselves in attempting to come up with new formats.....NOT!
ReplyDeleteHow can they do this? I will really miss Kid but how on earth am I going to survive without Kelly's beautiful voice and subtle humour (English spelling) to wake me up in the mornings.
ReplyDeleteHey Jude!
ReplyDeleteBeaker Street with Clyde Clifford was the first underground music program broadcast regularly on a commercial AM radio station in the central US.[citation needed] Beaker Street began on Little Rock, Arkansas 50,000 watt AM radio station KAAY late in 1966 and ran through 1972. The show's original announcer, Clyde Clifford, moved to FM in 1974[1] as the rise in popularity of FM radio began to impact the operations of many AM stations. Beaker Street pre-dated the FM radio boom of the mid 1970s and foretold the rise of Album Oriented Rock and Classic rock formats.
ReplyDeleteKidd was the only reason I listened to 96.5. Back to 104.1 I guess.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I dont' listen to regular, public radio. I listen to Syrius XM.
ReplyDelete96.5 has lost me as a listener. I now listen to the show on I Heart Radio.
ReplyDeleteWJ/Another 1 Bites the Dust!
ReplyDeleteHouston Radio is like a Congress Car.
A Congress Car runs real fast and
Drives real hard....but it doesn't go anywhere!!!
And that's a fact Jack!!!!
i will no longer listen to mix anymore I am very upset that they took kidd off. I listened to them when I lived in PA and I loved ... so sad.. ;(
ReplyDeleteYou know?....Houston Radio (Corp. Radio especially)
ReplyDeleteis soooo bad, I caught my dog Goober poring
over my boom box......
Let us not play the 20 song playlist Ad infinitum
ReplyDeleteAmerica, for instance, has more than 2 #1 hits to play,
America has
$-A Horse With No Name
I Need You
Ventura Highway
Don't Cross the River
Tin Man
Lonely People
$-Sister Golden Hair
Daisy Jane
Woman Tonight
Today's the Day
You Can Do Magic
Right Before Your Eyes
The Border
Houston is too large of a town to have to get a syndicated radio show from another town in Texas. I didn't listen to 96.5 very much because they were so annoying. Way too many people talking at once.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!!!...no sense of humor..and I have been a long time listener of BOTH Sam and Maria back in 104..Roula and Atom at night...then Roula and Ryan at 96.5..when Sam and Maria were let go..then Atom and Maria...then Maria over in San Francisco...then her back again with Booker at 96.5...now stuck with Roula...and I say Roula...cuz i rather lsiten to her than Ryan..GAWD ALMIGHTY he's annoying as hell..he's the "Penelope" (from SNL)...and Rod Ryan at 94.5 just screams too much...95.7...Sara Pepper is funny..at the courhouse....that being said... MISS MARIA and Sam...and Praise the Lord Kidd and the crew is GONE!!!
DeleteI will never ever listen to 96.5 again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so upset. I really loved listening to the show in the morning. I can't tell you how many times u guys had me in stitches, literally crying in laughter. Kelly, u were my fave! Gonna miss the show and Friday mornings were the best! !
ReplyDeleteI am surprised by all the support here. I tried numerous times to listen to your program, but came away disappointed each and every time. While I do appreciate the Kidd's Kids charity work that you do, the program was rather stale. Your Hizzywood Hizzle should have just been called "Kardashian Watch Block" as those seemed to be the only "celebrities" you ever discussed. You were rude and obnoxious to Big Al and Kelly constantly (especially when their opinions differed from your own). Your own opinions rarely showed any true attempt to actually evaluate both sides of an issue. Instead, listeners were treated to misguided tirades about your own views on celebrities, lifestyles, and politics. No thank you. I will stick to much more entertaining (and not mass market produced drivel) shows like Rod Ryan.
ReplyDeleteLooks like CC wants to “slam dunk” the Rock & Roll format
ReplyDelete(Talkin’ ‘bout dumping America’s Music Culture)? We might as
well play Chinese music (nothing against the Chinese people
mind you) just as General Motors sold out to the government
of China.
Guess this means I can start listening to 96.5 in the mornings, again.
ReplyDeleteKidd obviously has a loyal fan base, but I'm not in it. I really tried to "get it", but finally had to abandon the station & move on. I found the humor sophomoric at best & sometimes felt like I was listening to some middle-school students who were trying to find "something" that was entertaining (e.g. digitally altered voices interjected into random, fictitious situations).
Every once in a while, they'd connect with the ball, but far too often, it was a strike out for me.
NNNOOOOO!!!!! I thought they were on vacation too!! I grew up in Dallas and missed you guys so much when I moved to Houston. I was ELATED when I found out you were here and now...gone again. WHY?! Houston lost a great morning show. Houston lost the BEST morning show.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! So SAD 2 hear that KIDD n THE GANG r gone from Houston!!!
ReplyDeleteRRRREALLLY???? REALLLLY? This is CRAZZZZY... I swear I thought they were on vacation also. I can NOT believe this. They were soooo funnny... I miss miss miss them and my one hour drive time is now AWFUL... I actually catch myself laughing out loud in my car by myself, BECAUSE OF THEM.... Ya'll all will be missed!!! :(
DeleteI wont listen to those stations again, I looked forward to every morning listening to the crew. 96.5 big mistake in my opinion but loose your listeners it's your choice.
ReplyDeleteI just moved to houston 5 months ago. Loved Kidd and the gang. Have not found anything good to listen to here, so Sirius/XM..here I come. I would rather pay than listen to the stations here....until someone puts Kidd and the gang back on the air here.
ReplyDeleteHallelujah, I couldn't bear to listen to the Kidd Kraddick morning show in Dallas years ago. The only time Kidd was ever tolerable was on KEGL many years ago. I stopped listening to local radio when KRBE brought on Roula & Ryan then changed the morning show at MIX 96.5 to more of the same the annoying babble. Maria & Atom were the best combination, entertaining & funny.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for satellite radio.
