Abby Green promoted to KRBC Abilene evening anchor

Abby Green has been promoted to the KRBC Abilene 5, 6 and 10pm evening co-anchor with David Bacon and Dylan Smith in July 2022.

She replaces Lauren Ailles who left KRBC in June to join News15 KADN News in Lafayette, Louisiana as an evening anchor. 

Green moves from her role as weekend anchor/reporter for both KRBC and KTAB.  She joined the Nexstar Media Group stations in March of 2021.

The University of Oklahoma grad interned with FOX 25 KOKH Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and KOCO 5 News.

Reporter Annabelle Tuggle takes over weekend anchoring from Green.

Clemente Morales leaves Abilene Today on KRBC and KTAB

Clemente Morales is leaving his Abilene Today meteorologist/anchor position with KRBC and KTAB Abilene as of August 2025.

"As I wrap up my final shows here at the station, I never forget about what success I’ve had and how I attribute that to the people that put us on TV every day," Morales posted.  "Heather Easley is a wonderful coanchor to have but even she will tell you that what makes it all happen is our production crew. Today I feel very special to have worked with Stephen, Kaitlyn, Caden, Desiree, and Tim. You guys are the best and thanks for always giving it your very best. You are appreciated. Thanks for the card, the gift, but most of all for the wonderful memories!"

Weekend meteorologist Carter Vandrasik takes over next to Easley on Abilene Today at 6 AM and then again on Abilene Midday at 11:30. 

Morales's career in broadcasting began in 1985. While pursuing a nursing degree, Clemente took a part-time job at KRBC answering phones in the evenings. It didn’t take long for his interest in television to take root, and soon, he found himself learning every corner of the newsroom.

Over the years, Clemente wore many hats—News Photographer, Reporter, Assignment Editor, Commercial Production Videographer—before finding his true calling in weather.

Morales was born in Hamlin and raised in Abilene for most of his life, and is a Cooper High School graduate who attended Hardin-Simmons University.

Katalina Bell joins KWTX 10 Waco

Katalina Bell is saying goodbye to KTAB 32 Abilene, with her final day at the Nexstar station set for July 1, 2026.

UPDATE:  Katalina Bell will continue her career as a meteorologist at KWTX 10 Waco-Temple-Killeen.

Here is what Bell posted online about her KTAB departure:

"After two amazing years, my time at KTAB is coming to an end. July 1st will be my final day on air.

When I moved to the Big Country, I never imagined how much this community would come to mean to me. From covering severe weather and sharing forecasts to visiting schools, hosting a podcast, and connecting with so many of you along the way, these past two years have been filled with memories I will always cherish.

Thank you for trusting me, supporting me, and allowing me to be a small part of your lives the last 2 years. It has truly been an honor to serve this incredible community.

As for what’s next, I promise that announcement is coming soon.

For now, I just want to say thank you. The Big Country will always have a special place in my heart."

Bell joined KTAB (and KRBC) as a meteorologist in July 2024 after graduating from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. During her two years forecasting weather in West Texas, she delivered daily forecasts and covered changing weather conditions for viewers across the Big Country.

"Back in the summer of 2024, Kat and I started our journeys in the Big Country together as weekend meteorologists for KRBC and KTAB. What started as two young meteorologists learning the ropes quickly turned into a great friendship and partnership," Meteorologist Carter Vandrasik added. "Over the years, we visited schools all across the Big Country, met hundreds of students, covered everything from severe weather to winter storms, and even started the Carter & Kat’s Weather Chat podcast. Some of my favorite memories at the station involve those school visits, community events, and the countless weather conversations we shared."

Originally from Bulverde, just outside San Antonio, Bell developed her passion for weather while studying at Texas A&M. While in College Station, she was active in TAMSCAMS, a student-run organization within the Department of Atmospheric Sciences.

Bell also gained hands-on research experience as an undergraduate research assistant under Dr. Timothy Logan, studying lightning sprites and aerosols associated with tropical cyclones. Her work included participation in a rapid response research team focused on collecting data during developing weather events to support meteorological and disaster preparedness research.

In addition to research, Bell worked as a student meteorologist delivering forecasts across television and radio platforms.

No word yet on Bell’s next career move following her departure from KTAB.

Annabelle Tuggle leaves KETK and FOX51 East Texas

Annabelle Tuggle signed off as an evening anchor from KETK and FOX51 News Tyler in July 2025 for what she said on-air were "for other opportunities."

Tuggle previously worked at KRBC 9 Abilene as a weekend anchor.

She even worked with co-anchor Tyler Henderson at KRBC and KETK.

The Paris, TX native graduated from Hardin-Simmons University.

Carter Vandrasik joins KRBC Abilene

Carter Vandrasik joined KRBC Abilene as a weekend meteorologist in June 2024.

The recent University of Tennessee at Martin grad worked for campus radio station 90.3 “The Hawk” WUTM Martin, Tennessee

He interned for WKRN News 2 Nashville, Tennessee.

Dylan Smith joins KCBD 11 Lubbock

Dylan Smith is joining KCBD 11 Lubbock as a meteorologist as of February 2026.

He joined KRBC in December 2025 from KTAB Abilene, where he served as a morning meteorologist.

Don't confuse this Smith with Dylan Smith of WTOC, Savannah, Ga., who previously worked in Texas at KWES Midland.

Monica Diaz-Meek is pregnant

Monica Diaz-Meek, the KRBC News Abilene morning news anchor, announced she is expecting a baby daughter in October 2023.

Diaz-Meek joined KRBC weekend Anchor/producer in May 2020 and a few months later in October was promoted to 'Abilene Today' and 'Abilene Midday' anchor in October 2020.

She gave birth to her first child, a boy, in July 2021.

KTAB - KRBC Abilene rebrand to West Texas Today and West Texas Daily

KTAB and KRBC Abilene morning anchor Heather Easley and meteorologist Carter Vandrasik announced that, starting in January 2026, the Abilene Today and Abilene Midday newscasts changed their names to West Texas Today and West Texas Daily.

"We’re excited to now bring our coverage to San Angelo / the Concho Valley, in addition to Abilene / the Big Country," the post said.

So we now know the answer to the much asked question, who is taking over morning traffic on channel 2 after Jennifer Reyna. 

Here is what she posted on Facebook:

So hard to say goodbye to this crew, but the time has come... today was my last day as part of #KVUE Daybreak’s morning team serving as their Traffic Anchor for the past 3 years. It’s been an awesome ride, mostly because of this bunch. A big thank you to our loyal viewers who tuned in every morning to watch this crazy crew!
I am happy to announce I’ll be joining KPRC2 / Click2Houston morning team as their Traffic Anchor. I’m THRILLED to be joining such a wonderful team. It’s home for this Houston native, a HUGE blessing to be even closer now to family.

So many people have been asking me about where Jennifer Reyna is heading. I have no idea at this point, but at least we know who is taking over her position.

But back to Reyes, this will actually be a homecoming because back in 2015, she was a web editor for click2houton.com. You might have also heard her as a News92FM KROI feature reporter and web editor from 2013 to 2015.

After Houston, Reyes went to work for KTAB-KRBC Abilene in 2015. She moved to KVUE Austin in 2017.

Reyes, who was born in Monterrey, Mexico, but raised in Houston, is a University of Texas at San Antonio grad. She interned at KABB San Antonio.

April 3, 2020 – Houston, TX – In an effort to better serve our community now and even more so after this crisis passes, KPRC 2 continues to add resources to newscasts. Houston-native Anavid Reyes will join the KPRC 2 News Today team as Traffic Reporter/Investigator and will hit the air in early April. She will also be spearheading KPRC’s “What’s Driving Houston” mobility initiative.

Reyes comes to KPRC from KVUE-TV in Austin, where she helped launch the traffic department and served as the station’s Daybreak morning traffic anchor. She has also worked in Abilene, Texas, where she produced, wrote, edited, reported and anchored an all-Spanish newscast for Telemundo, as well as in English for the company’s sister stations, KRBC-TV and KTAB-TV News. Prior to that Anavid worked as a web editor for KPRC’s Click2Houston.com digital platform and served as a feature reporter and web editor at Houston’s News 92FM.

Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Anavid’s family moved to Houston when she was a child. She attended Langham Creek High School, then the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is the first college graduate in her family.

The debate will be hosted by KXAN-TV News anchor Britt Moreno and feature questions from a panel of journalists, including Sally Hernandez of KXAN-TV, Gromer Jeffers of The Dallas Morning News, and Steve Spriester of KSAT-TV San Antonio. 

The panel will pose questions to each candidate, including several submitted from voters in advance, focused on such topics as immigration, gun violence, and abortion rights.

In addition, a group of undecided voters in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area will watch the debate as it happens and give real-time feedback on candidates’ responses, which viewers will be able to see live on the websites of all Nexstar stations serving Texas.

The election for Texas Governor will take place on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Voters must register to vote by Tuesday, October 11th. Kaiti Blake leaves KSAT San Antonio

Kaiti Blake announced she is leaving KSAT 12 San Antonio, but staying in Texas as a meteorologist. 

In an August 2022 Facebook post, Blake says she is now a meteorologist and communications representative for Oncor in Dallas. She adds Oncor is the largest transmission & distribution electric utility in Texas - serving a large area that includes DFW, Tyler, Midland/Odessa, Waco, and as far south as Round Rock.

Mia Montgomery joins KSAT San Antonio

Here is what Blake posted on Facebook about leaving San Antonio TV weather:

"I want to share with you that my time on the KSAT Roof is winding down. My husband and I will be starting a new adventure in the DFW area soon. (Oh, Theo is coming, too. 😸) My last day at KSAT will be July 6th.

This decision was 100% mine. I have been presented with an exciting opportunity outside of TV that will challenge me and take me out of my comfort zone. Most importantly, I’m keeping the title of, “meteorologist” - so, I’ll get to continue doing what I love. I’m really excited.

I want to thank our KSAT viewers for always being so supportive and loyal. Please know that my KSAT colleagues - from the news team, to our production folks who get us on the air every day - are working to serve YOU and truly have your best interests at heart.

I can’t say enough about Adam, Justin, Mike, & Sarah. It’s rare in TV to get to work with such great human beings. Yes, they’re awesome meteorologists. But, they’re even better PEOPLE & San Antonio is lucky to have them.

I also want to highlight a very specific group of followers on my social media accounts who got me help for my cat, Theo, a few years ago. I reached out in desperation and some of you pointed me in the right direction. Because of you, Theo is healthy & loving life. I could never repay you! And thank you ALL for always asking about him. It means so much.

Blake joined KSAT 12 in April 2017 from her weekday morning and midday meteorologist position at KTAB/KRBC Abilene.

She previously worked for News Channel 12 WJTV Jackson, Mississippi as a weekend morning meteorologist. While at WJTV, Blake earned her master's degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. She also worked as a teaching assistant for the university.

The Texas Tech University grad interned with KCBD 11 Lubbock and abc13 KTRK Houston.

‘Lone Star NYE 2021’ to broadcast across Texas TV

FORT WORTH-DALLAS, TX and IRVING, TX– (December 22, 2020) – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth /KXAS and Nexstar Inc. today announced the broadcast details for “Lone Star NYE 2021,” a New Year’s Eve program airing December 31, 2020 from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. CST, hosted by NBC 5’s Katy Blakey and KARK’s D.J. Williams. 

This year’s New Year’s Eve program, featuring the Eli Young Band, singer Ryan Berg from NBC’s “The Voice” and the traditional Dallas’ Reunion Tower fireworks spectacular, will air in North Texas on NBC 5, in an additional 12 Texas markets, and in five Central time zone states including Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri.

As in years past, “Lone Star NYE 2021” will include “Over the Top NYE” live fireworks spectacular presented by Hunt Realty Investments and Reunion Tower with NBC 5 and Nexstar Inc. serving as official media sponsors. The remarkable, nonstop, 10-minute fireworks show will illuminate the Dallas city skyline with breathtaking panoramic fireworks and include more than 4,000 pyrotechnic special effects fired from 560 feet above ground atop Reunion Tower. The tower itself, meanwhile, is covered with 259 LED lights that will display thousands of unique designs and patterns during the show.

CW39 KIAH and Nexstar stations to host Gov. Abbott town hall

Governor to Address Statewide Response to Coronavirus Outbreak, Joined by Top State Officials in Health, Infectious Diseases, Education, and Emergency Management

IRVING, Texas (March 17, 2020) – Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST) announced today that it will host a live virtual Town Hall meeting with Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The governor will address the statewide response to the current coronavirus outbreak and will be joined by top state government officials from the departments of health, infectious diseases, education, and emergency management.

Due to restrictions on large gatherings, the one-hour virtual Town Hall will take place at the studios of KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas, and bring viewers in communities across the state together via live television broadcast and livestream video. Viewers will be invited to submit questions to the Governor and the other state officials via social media using the hashtag #AskAbbott.

Preference will be given to those questions submitted as videos rather than texts.

CW39 Houston has been quickly making big changes 

Carpenter came to channel 39 Houston in 2018 for the debut of the new local version of "Morning Dose" from KBTX Bryan - College Station.  She had worked in BCS television news since 2016 as channel 3's morning newscast feature reporter. 

She started her career at KRBC Abilene as a multi-media journalist (MMJ). 

The Monroe, Louisiana native, who grew up in Springdale, Arkansas, graduated from Dallas Baptist University on a golf scholarship.

That experience led Carpenter to intern with CBS Sports and travel with the PGA Tour. 

Carpenter's departure happened just before the arrival of a new meteorologist.

As I posted earlier, meteorologist Carrigan Chauvin debuted on the CW39 morning newscast Christmas Day.

Chauvin comes to Houston from KJRH 2 Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

Commenters on my Facebook page were asking who Chauvin is replacing.  

I don't think she is replacing anyone.  Chauvin is filling a new, second meteorologist spot for channel 39 along with Adam Krueger who arrived at KIAH from Spectrum News a few months ago.

Avery Tomasco promoted to CBS Austin mornings

Avery Tomasco is the new CBS Austin News KEYE morning meteorologist, moving from weekend evenings.

Tomasco will be taking the place of meteorologist Nicole Hartford who is leaving for 11Alive WXIA Atlanta  and will hit the air there in February 2022.

"Life update and exciting news to share with you, friends... I have accepted a promotion to become the full-time morning meteorologist for CBS Austin News beginning next week (January 24th.) To say this is a dream come true would be an understatement... 

I grew up in Austin utterly fascinated by the weather. I’d fall asleep to “weather on the 8’s” as a kid, always glued to Mark Murray and Jim Spencer during every storm chance, running quickly from the TV to the back deck with my dad to observe and learn while monitoring my rinky-dink weather station I got for Christmas one year. I discovered quickly after my first internship that I wanted to be a morning meteorologist, and I wanted to do so in Austin... to finally be stepping into that role 10 years later is surreal and difficult to put into words.

I get to continue doing what I love, keeping you ahead of our wild Texas weather while (hopefully) teaching you something new along the way. I get to stay in Austin, raise my little girl in the town I grew up in surrounded by friends and family, and teach her all of the things that made me fall in love with meteorology to begin with.

As he mentioned his Central Texas upbringing, the Houston born and Austin raised Tomasco attended Eanes Elementary, Hill Country middle school and Westlake High School.

While in school, Tomasco visited KEYE 42 Chief Meteorologist Troy Kimmel which drove his desire to forecast weather.

Before returning to Austin at KEYE, Tomasco was the morning meteorologist for KTAB/KRBC Abilene.

The Texas A&M University Bachelor of Science (BS) Meteorology grad interned across the street at FOX 7 Austin KTBC.

Tomasco, a self-described "true weather nerd" earned his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society right before joining CBS Austin.

Delaine Mathieu exits News 4 San Antonio WOAI

Delaine Mathieu has announced on Facebook and YouTube that she is gone from News 4 San Antonio WOAI newscasts after 16 years with the station. The longtime 5pm TV news anchor says Tuesday was her last day on the air.

This comes after the much hyped news that San Antonio TV news veteran, and Mathieu's co-anchor, Randy Beamer retired from WOAI.  Mathieu was featured on WOAI's newscast Friday in a goodbye montage to Beamer.

In the video released Saturday, Mathieu offers a tearful goodbye to her colleagues and viewers.

Here is partial transcript of what she said in the video announcement:

"I'm going to keep watching. I'm a huge fan of News 4. I cannot wait to see what happens next and I don't know what I'm going to do next. I'm going to be painting a lot and probably drinking some wine and chillaxing the rest of my days.

This business is is high stress. High adrenaline. So we're mourning and so many levels, but it is, it's fast paced and I'm going to slow down and I'm going to enjoy my girls and I'm going to enjoy my husband. And cut my hair any frickin way I want to, and color it any way I want to, and wear whatever I want to and enjoy life.

But just know that I appreciate all of you for all the years that you've given me. So on that note, I'm going to say goodbye. Not goodbye, I'll see you later. Just not at 5:00 on news 4."

Sinclair Broadcast Group in the headlines

WOAI owner Sinclair Broadcast Group has been in the news this week announcing it was reducing its workforce by approximately 5% which amounts to more than 550 employees due to the pandemic. Mathieu did not mention this or explain the reason for her sudden departure.

"Here come more tears," morning WOAI meteorologist Jeannette Calle posted on Facebook. "Love this lady. Such a great story-teller. Also so caring, loving and passionate. Will also miss you dearly around the station."

"Retirements, next chapters in life...I understand and celebrate these occasions," chief WOAI meteorologist Chris Suchan posted on Facebook.  "It’s just tough to say goodbye. I will miss Randy & Delaine more than words can eloquently explain.  They’re both more than colleagues, they are family to me.  I know we’ll see each other from time to time whether over drinks or backyard grill outs...maybe the next art show “Delaine.”  But seriously, I truly hope you both enjoy the extra time with your families and all your new personal ventures ahead."

Mathieu recently started a website at delainemathieu.com.

On May 19, 2021, Mathieu posted on Twitter that she was going to become a realtor:

"Chapter 2 begins! I'm extremely proud to have joined [Phyllis Browning Co.] to launch my new career in real estate!  It's an exciting time.  My 'set' has changed but my mission hasn't - I'm still here to help any way I can!"

The Phyllis Browning Company social media profile bio states that it has more than 200 real estate professionals in four offices, making it "San Antonio's largest independently-owned residential real estate company."

Mathieu's TV news biography

The Corpus Christ native joined WOAI around 2005 or so after working for WSVN Miami as the top rated "Today in Florida" anchor.
