Sarah Duran named KENS 5 4:30 a.m. news and traffic anchor

Sarah Duran has been promoted to KENS 5 San Antonio’s 4:30 a.m. news and traffic anchor.

Duran will anchor and deliver weekday morning traffic reports beginning at 4:30 a.m., taking over the role previously held by Jessica Coombs, who departed the station in February 2025.

“Through my work as a reporter and my familiarity with San Antonio, I discovered new interests, including a real passion for transportation journalism,” Duran said. “It’s a blessing to continue my career in my hometown to help viewers move through their morning commute with confidence.”

A two-time Emmy-nominated journalist, Duran joined the KENS 5 news team on November 8, 2021, after spending three years as a reporter with Spectrum News 1. She quickly expanded her role at KENS 5, regularly filling in on the traffic desk before stepping into anchoring duties.

Duran began her career in Victoria, Texas, as a weekend anchor and reporter for Newscenter 25 KAVU.

A graduate of John Marshall High School and Texas State University, Duran completed internships at Goodtaste.TV, News 4 WOAI San Antonio, and Time Warner Cable News Austin. While attending Texas State, she also worked at the university’s radio station, 89.9 KTSW San Marcos.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Duran says journalism runs in her blood. She spent her childhood at her grandparents’ newspaper, La Prensa, San Antonio’s only bilingual weekly. At age 10, she attended a taping of Great Day SA at the KENS 5 studios—an experience that helped spark her ambition to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.

“It’s great to have Sarah at KENS,” KENS 5 news director Jack Acosta added. “She was born and raised here, and she’s been part of this community all her life. She really is San Antonio’s Own.”

Duran got married in February 2024.
