TVSpy broke the news right as I went on my December blogging break that WDIV Detroit's Chauncy Glover is heading to Houston. Glover will be the weekend morning anchor at KTRK abc13.

That slot has been open since Samica Knight apparently has taken over the seat of Sharron Melton on the Disney/ABC Television Group station's weekday morning show.

So far it has been an explosive 2015 for Glover. Why? Well he started off the New Year watching the fireworks celebration in Rio de Janeiro.

You could say travelling is in Glover's blood. According to his bio, he has been around the world in productions like A Raisin In The Sun, The Whiz, The Piano Lesson, The Scottsboro Boys and the The Vegas Show.

That musical talent led Glover to perform for the American Idol judges for a "ticket to Hollywood." So if Glover ever has to ambush a Houston politician for a story, he knows how to give 'em the Simon Cowell treatment!

Cowell aside, Glover says he has shared the stage with the likes of Donnie McClurkin, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Hezekiah Walker and even Patti LaBelle.

However, Glover cites his proudest musical moment as the time he sang at Rosa Parks funeral.

Besides singing achievements, Glover has also starred in several independent films such as Time Is Running Out and Mamma's Boy.

When not on the musical stage or screen, you can find Glover writing plays and starring in them. He's currently working on two new plays.

But, one of Glover's most personal projects to date is a new book about the loss of a sibling. Growing Up Glover will be a tribute to his younger brother Marchas.

Always an entertainer at heart, Glover says he was able to mix his strong faith with his vocal work. At age 5, Glover was already singing in his church. That experience would lead him to direct choirs across the United States. Glover's bio states he is a former Minister of Music for the Fourth Street Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia and Big Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Madison, Alabama.

As someone who has been blessed with a lot of talent, Glover remembers to give back to the community. The eponymous Chauncy Glover Project - CGP is an extensive hands-on mentoring program in Detroit, MI created to groom inner-city teenage boys into upstanding and accomplished gentlemen. No word if Glover will move the program with him to KTRK and Houston.

Glover has degrees in broadcast journalism, music and theater from Troy University.

No word on his Houston start date, but I would expect Glover to arrive soon since his last day at WDIV was in late December.

Glover will join Pat Harvey as co-anchor of "KCAL News on CBS Los Angeles" at 5 and 11pm starting October 2, 2023.  He will also co-anchor the 8 and 10pm newscasts on KCAL with Suzie Suh.

Channel 13 Houston fans can still watch Glover on the CBS News Los Angeles streaming channel.

He joins the KCAL News team following an eight-year tenure as an anchor at KTRK. 

Glover joined abc13 as a weekend morning anchor in 2015 before he transitioned to weekdays, where he helped launch its 3pm newscast. 

In 2020, Glover was promoted to weeknight anchor.

Before his time at KTRK, Glover served as a reporter at WDIV Local 4 Detroit. During this period, he founded the Chauncy Glover Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to offering hands-on mentoring programs focused on education, manhood, and self-empowerment to Black and Latino male youth. The inspiration for CGP came from a heartbreaking incident where Glover covered a breaking news story, witnessing the tragic death of a high school student who was shot while attempting to rob his school's basketball coach.

Glover's passion for television news traces back to his childhood, when his father constructed an anchor desk in their living room. Young Chauncy would eagerly report on family news every Sunday after church, igniting his lifelong interest in journalism.

Before Detroit, the Troy University grad worked for such stations as WTVM News Leader 9 Columbus, Georgia, as well as Action News Jax CBS 47 WJAX and Fox 30 WFOX Jacksonville, Florida.

"We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy's beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. He was more than a son and brother - he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community. No cause of death has been released.

Glover, who left Channel 13 in Houston in August 2023, joined CBS Los Angeles in October 2023 as co-anchor for “KCAL News on CBS Los Angeles” alongside Pat Harvey at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. and the 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts on KCAL with Suzie Suh.

Glover was an anchor for KTRK for eight years. He started as a weekend morning anchor in 2015 and later transitioned to weekdays to launch the 3 p.m. newscast. In 2020, he was promoted to weeknight co-anchor.

Before Houston, Glover was a reporter at WDIV Local 4 Detroit. During that time, he founded the Chauncy Glover Project, a non-profit organization offering mentorship programs focused on education, manhood, and self-empowerment for Black and Latino male youth. The inspiration for CGP stemmed from a difficult moment when Glover reported on the tragic death of a high school student who was fatally shot while attempting to rob his school’s basketball coach.

The three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist's love for television news began in childhood when his father built an anchor desk in their living room. Young Chauncy would eagerly report family news every Sunday after church, sparking his lifelong passion for journalism.

A graduate of Troy University, Glover previously worked at WTVM News Leader 9 in Columbus, Georgia, and later at Action News Jax (CBS 47 WJAX and Fox 30 WFOX) in Jacksonville, Florida.

Chauncy Glover, 3pm and 6:30pm anchor for abc13 KTRK, announced today he has tested positive for coronaviurs and is self-quarantining.

For days I anchored the news telling viewers about Coronavirus, also known as Covid19.

I talked about new cases and gave viewers detailed info on how to stay safe.

Last week I had to take my own advice after waking up in the middle of the night disoriented, in a horrible sweat. I had a tightening in my chest, was hot with a temp of 101 and had horrible body aches. I called my doctor.

I did a virtual visit with a specialist. That doctor referred me to get tested for Covid19.

I self quarantined as I awaited my results.

A week later, I got the call saying I tested positive for the Coronavirus. I’m now home recovering.

Thankfully, I’m feeling better, and through the worst part. I’m so blessed. God was with me. He always is! Please take this seriously friends.

Stay home, take care of yourselves and if you’re showing symptoms—CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.

Chauncy Glover's cause of death released by LA County

The cause of death of former ABC13 Houston KTRK anchor and CBS Los Angeles stations KCBS 2 and KCAL 9 co-anchor Chauncy Glover, 39, has been determined.

In a press release issued today, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner determined the cause of death for 39-year-old journalist and news anchor Chauncy Cortez Glover as acute intoxication by the combined effects of chloroethane and methamphetamine. 

The manner of death is an accident.

Deadline reports that according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chloroethane is a colorless gas used to numb the skin before medical procedures such as ear piercing and skin biopsies and as a treatment for sports injuries.

Glover was found unresponsive in his home on November 5, 2024, and death was pronounced by fire department personnel.

A deputy medical examiner completed an examination on November 6, 2024, and after the return of relevant tests and studies, the cause and manner of death were certified on February 19, 2025.

The Medical Examiner’s report is expected to be ready by the end of March.

A few days after I posted about the evening anchor being off channel 13 since the fall, Glover posted  this statement on Facebook:

"Hi Friends—

I appreciate all the inquiries over the past few days. I want everyone to know that I’m taking some time away to deal with some medical and family issues. Thanks for the concern. Nobody is more anxious to get back to work at ABC13 and on your TV screen than me. I promise to come back better and stronger. See everyone soon. -CG"

I received a Houston TV viewer email asking me if I know where abc13 KTRK anchor Chauncy Glover has been lately?

From what I have been told, he has been off the air for three to four weeks.

His last social media posts are at the end of September or very early October 2022.

There has been a tweet asking Glover's co-anchor Mayra Moreno if he's okay.

Here is a transcript of what Glover said at the end his final time as an anchor for an abc13 Houston newscast:

 

"This is my last day and last newscast here at abc13 as I am moving on to take another great opportunity. 

Houston, first want to talk to you and say I love you and thank you. Thank you for welcoming me nine years ago, when I first came to Houston as a 29-year-old eager journalist, a young man with glasses and no facial hair. I had no family here or friends, but Houston, you became my family and you all became my friends. Thank you all so much for trusting me, allowing me to tell your stories and see your events. Speak at your schools and churches. 

Houston is a great city because of you, our viewers, you great people who make this city great. Houston is like a family. We've had our peaks and we that our valleys. We've been through a lot together. We've lost things and we've lost people. We've weathered Harvey together and World Series, four World Series and a pandemic. 

And when Covid hit me, it was you viewers calling and emailing me, DMing me, praying me, praying for me and my recovery. Even when I was out, I had you in mind and I bounced back because I wanted to get back to you, my family. 

I must say thank you to my general manager, Wendy Granato, who found me in Detroit, saw something in me and gave you my first anchor job on the weekends morning show. Thank you for being the best, most caring boss I have ever had. I will always be grateful for you. This station is so special and just like Houston is, the people in this building that have come and also have come through this building that make abc13 great.

And not just the ones you see here on TV, to see us on your screen or on your phone. It takes a village to producers, executive producers, editors, security and many more help bring you accurate fair news every single day. And I work with some of the best in the business. 

From Melanie Lawson, who has loved and supported me and cheered since day one. It was actually Melanie who they sent in for the kill during my interview, she told me that I can't promise everything will be perfect, but we will have your back. And she kept to that promise. 

And the biggest blessing of all has been this young lady right here, my co-worker (Mayra Moreno), to sit beside you every single day. And match you every single day, it's been fun...You have been my rock and my therapist at times. We've laughed and prayed and cried together and you have been the best work wife anyone could ask for. 

And lastly, and what I'm most proud of the work I've done in the community through my nonprofit, the Chauncy Glover Project. We've mentored more than 2,000 boys of color, and we've sent more than 250 young men to college. CGP has gotten countless boys on the right track and we've changed so many lives. CGP will continue this fall, although I will not be here in Houston. 

Houston, God has been so good to me. I'm going to get some much needed rest and vacation and I'll share details on my next chapter on social media here in the coming weeks. But thank you so much and God bless you and Mayra, thank you for being the best co-worker."

In tears, Moreno responded to Glover:

"I know we will miss you and all of Houston will miss you. And it has been such a pleasure for me because this is It is now surreal and it has hit. But you will always be here with all of us in our hearts. And we're not getting rid of me. I'm texting you. I'm bugging you. And you know, we always have those Facetime talks."

The Houston Chronicle's Culture Columnist Joy Sewing actually broke the news after a reported email went out to the KTRK staff instructing them not to post about Glover's departure ahead of time and way before the anchor said goodbye to television viewers. Based on what's in the newspaper article, it appears Glover is not staying with the Disney/ABC television group.

The longtime KTRK anchor recently returned to abc13 in January 2023 after a four month medical issue. 

Glover joined abc13 KTRK in 2015 as a weekend morning anchor from WDIV Local 4 Detroit where he was a reporter.  

In 2018, he and co-anchor Mayra Moreno help debut the station's 3pm newscast. He later moved to evenings in early 2020.

The three-time Emmy Award winning anchor  and Troy University grad previously worked for WTVM News Leader 9 Columbus, Georgia and CBS 47 / Fox 30 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Chauncy Glover's family, friends, and television co-workers celebrated and remembered him at his funeral service Saturday in Athens, Alabama, at the Lindsay Lane Baptist Church.

Glover, 39, former ABC13 Houston KTRK anchor and current CBS Los Angeles stations KCBS 2- KCAL 9 co-anchor, died in early November.  No cause of death has been released. CBS Los Angeles live-streamed Glover's funeral service for the world to see.

His ABC13 KTRK Houston work family members, including Melanie Lawson, Mayra Moreno, David Tillman, Erica Simon, Rosie Nguyen, Briana Conner, and Elita Loresca, were in attendance. Former KTRK president and general manager Wendy Granato, now president and general manager of ABC7 KABC Los Angeles, was also there.

Moreno and Lawson participated in the service, giving emotional remembrances of the former television anchor that let the rest of us know the person he was off camera.

Moreno celebrated Glover for their special bond as an anchor team:

"For eight years, Chauncy and I sat side by side delivering the news, but he was so much more than a co-worker. He was a friend, my confidant, my partner in crime. We were, as many would say, two peas in a pod. When you saw us on TV, we had our little routine. We had matching outfits and matching energy. And boy, did people think we were married. So to this day, if you Google his name, the top search is are Chauncy Glover and Mayra Moreno still married.

 Over the years we bonded because we grew together as a team. We started weekend mornings getting to the station at three in the morning. And boy, was that so rough. We would say this is temporary. One day we'll go Monday through Friday, which we did. And we launched the station's first 3:00 newscast in the city. And that was just the beginning. On days when he was low on energy, he was like, boo! I'm gonna need you to carry this newscast today. And I was like, I got you. On days when I was low, I said, boo. It's been a week. He already knew what to do. We cared about our product. And everything that people saw on screen was real. We knew how to roll with the punches at work, with breaking news or last minute changes. We could finish each other's sentences. And if my hair was off, he would fix it. If his forehead was shiny, I would tell him.

One time, a button from his suit popped out and he was like, Myra, I'm gonna need your help, girl. And there I was, trying to figure out how am I going to get his suit together, y'all. I had a safety pin and getting him together during a commercial break, trying to count down the time. He was mind blown, y'all. I told him, baby, I'm a Mexi-CAN. 

When he left for L.A. it was bittersweet. I wanted him to get that dream job, that big time TV market. But I also knew that meant breaking up the team. I joked with him saying, you're going to miss this Mexi-CAN. And sure enough, he did. And it felt so much recently when I would get a message from him simply saying I miss you, or texting a picture of us from back in the day and I would simply text him, I miss you too, boo! Since I heard about Chauncy's passing, his laughter, his smile, and his bright, joyful spirit have been on my mind constantly. Those memories, the way he could light up a room with a single joke or just a kind word, are all the things that I'm going to hold close to my heart. I take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, embraced by God's love. I trust that he's in a place where laughter never fades and joy never ends. Until we meet again."

Here is a portion of how Lawson remembered Glover joining ABC13 KTRK:

"He was such an amazing man. He taught us how to live life to the fullest and love people to the deepest. Chauncy was born to enrich the lives of others. He made us all feel like his best friend. And as I listen to everybody else talk clearly, he learned it right here. We come to you from a city now in grief. Houston is mourning the loss of Chauncy Glover. I'm a Houstonian. I've worked at the station longer than Chauncey's been alive, if you do the math on that. Um, but I have to tell you, I've never seen so many people in such grief so devastated by the loss of a single person, including so many who never met him in person but felt like they knew him because we all saw Chauncey on screen, was just like Chauncey in person. He adopted Houston and we adopted him. 

I was so blessed to get a chance to meet him on the first day, thanks to our former president and general manager, Wendy Granato. Wendy. Stand up, if you would. Just so we can see you. Wendy came to me and said, I'm interviewing this guy. We really want him to come here. He's got a lot of other offers. So close the deal for me. Melanie and I thought, close the deal, but it wasn't hard. We got a chance to sit down and talk for almost an hour, and by the time he left, we were already family. I have to thank Wendy for being so smart.

That was Chauncey's M.O. He was the new kid, but suddenly he knew more about the station than any of us. Within weeks, he knew everybody in town from the mayor, half of the Congress people to barbers and bus drivers. Right. That was Chauncey. He saw everyone as the same, and everyone was part of his family."

Chauncy Glover's Houston celebration of life will be held this Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The public is invited.

Glover died earlier this month , on November 5th, at the age of 39.  No cause of death has been released for the CBS Los Angeles KCBS 2 - KCAL 9 co-anchor.

Last Saturday, family and friends attended Glover's funeral in Athens, Alabama, where he was laid to rest. His former ABC13 KTRK Houston co-workers also attended his funeral, with Melanie Lawson and Mayra Moreno eulogizing Glover (you can read their emotional tributes through the link).

I told you this was coming way back in 2018 when Glover debuted the channel 13 3pm newscast:

What I can guess is that news director Wendy Granato has high hopes for the Glover and Moreno anchor team. Considering the attention, that especially Glover has been receiving, are we seeing the future main anchors move up through the Eyewitness News ranks? The 3pm today, the 6pm and 10pm news in the future?

OK, I didn't say 6:30pm, but I was close!

So, does this mean that now 6:30pm anchor, Erik Barajas, will move to the 6pm show with Gina Gaston and still continue to anchor the 10pm too?


Barajas has been hanging out in LA with late night ABC host Jimmy Kimmel (Baba Booey) as of late.

Here is my plea to Barajas, no matter how much Kimmel tells him using broadcast tones in his story is a good idea, DON'T DO IT!

If Barajas moves to the 6pm, the Glover domino effect also puts Art Rascon on the 11am and Live at Five only? Right?

abc13 KTRK to debut 3pm newscast

This morning, abc13 KTRK announced it is debuting its new Eyewitness News at 3pm, Monday, September 10th.

In all my years of blogging, I don't think a Houston TV station has ever announced a new weekday newscast on a Sunday morning.

Nor can I think of any company making a major announcement on a Sunday morning, but what do I know about marketing, I am just a dunderpate who writes on a free blogger.com account.

I guess it all makes more sense being that KTRK is moving its weekend morning news anchors, Chauncy Glover and Mayra Moreno, to that new show.

This means that Glover and Moreno will team back up with former weekend morning meteorologist Elita Loresca who moved to weekdays a while ago.

Today channel 13 viewers have been asking me if I knew about this. The answer is yes.

There have been tons of rumors about this show going back a decade or more.

Back when The Wayne Brady Show followed by the The Tony Danza Show failed to endure in the ratings. Once KTRK found the winning combo of the syndicated shows Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Inside Edition, rumors of a possible 3pm newscast seemed to fade until more recently.

I never blogged about this new 3pm show because I kept hearing all kinds of changing information about it. If I would have published at different points, the info would have been outdated the next week.

I've heard differing accounts of anchors, meteorologists and reporters who were all going to be allegedly working the show. I've heard the station was considering bringing former Houston talent back to the Bayou City to work it. I've heard people from other Houston stations were seen inside KTRK.

But none of that matters now, we know the eventual outcome today.

Here are a few things I am not totally sure about after today's announcement. For one, is the new newscast 30 minutes or an hour? I've also heard talk about it having more of a feature feel than other newscasts.

Guess we'll see on 9/10/2018 when the show hits the air.

What I can guess is that news director Wendy Granato has high hopes for the Glover and Moreno anchor team. Considering the attention, that especially Glover has been receiving, are we seeing the future main anchors move up through the Eyewitness News ranks? The 3pm today, the 6pm and 10pm news in the future?

So who will be sliding into the now empty weekend morning news chairs?

We learned from today's newscast video, the self-proclaimed "Dallas team" of reporters Erica Simon and Steven Romo.

Collin Myers will remain as the weekend morning meteorologist.

What is that Houston TV anchor wearing?

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!: Houston TV anchors revive the classic tie bar

He first noticed former FOX 26 reporter/anchor Ned Hibberd wearing them. Then the characters on AMC's Mad Men. Now Bob Martin aka "The Accountant to the Stars" is spotting tie bars on multiple male anchors across the Houston TV dial.


"When I was growing up, we called them 'tie clips'", Martin told mikemcguff.com. "The tie clips served a great function. One of my first jobs was as a manager of a restaurant. I was required to wear a tie which was always getting in the way and getting soiled in the kitchen. My dad gave me some of his tie clips which were very helpful in keeping my ties out of harm's way."

Houston anchors must be trying to keep their ties from being soiled from breaking news now. Martin has spotted abc 13 KTRK anchors Erik Barajas, Chauncy Glover and FOX 26 KRIV weekend anchor Chris Stipes with the fashion accessory.

"Tie bars are not a new accessory in menswear," Houston menswear consultant and former Chron.com blogger David Yarbrough explained to mikemcguff.com. "It's function in keeping the tie in place becomes even more practical when two-button jackets are being worn vs. three-button. It also attracts the eye toward the man's torso, which can highlight an athletic figure."

Fashion experts will tell you the tie bar has actually been around since the 1920s and like any trend comes and goes through the years.

Ashley Martini, styling consultant and founding member of Martini Fashions, LLC, says this timeless piece can be worn by a man of any age.

"Let a tie bar show a little bit of your personality off," Martini, who also interned with Jennifer Lopez’s fashion company Sweetface/JustSweet/JLO told me. "There are so many different shapes, designs and textures out there. Opt for a tie bar in a metal that matches your current accessories. For example, if you wear a gold watch and gold cuff links you should complete your look with a gold tie bar rather than mixing metals.

"Make sure your tie bar fits your tie appropriately. Also keep in mind it should be placed between your third and fourth buttons of your shirt. Avoid a tie bar if you have an oval body shape so you don't accentuate your midsection."

So did Martin keep any of his father's tie bars?

"Unfortunately all of my tie bars and those that belonged to my dad were sold long ago in garage sales," he said. "Now that I’m seeing the revival of them, I’m regretting that I did not keep a few of them for my TV interviews."

And as for this Houston TV anchor fashion trend...

"If male anchors are going to wear accessories, tie bars are much safer for their careers than wearing something like earrings," Martin added.
