"I'm excited to be returning to my reporting roots," Maggio posted on Instagram. "I'm going back to where it all started at @kvuenews for a series of in-depth reports on education in November. If 'legend' means I'm old and I've been on TV a long time, I guess I fit the bill. P.S. I'm failing at retirement!"
Starting in November, Maggio will cover topics such as teacher burnout, school safety, and the impact of school vouchers.
"Judy is an iconic presence in Austin news," added KVUE President and General Manager Byron Wilkinson. "She’s one of the most skilled reporters in our profession, and we’re thrilled to have her rejoin our already outstanding team of journalists."
Maggio was an anchor/reporter for KVUE from 1981 to 2003. She joined KEYE 42 (now called CBS Austin) from 2003 to 2014.
Most recently, Maggio served as editorial director of news and public affairs at PBS affiliate KLRU Austin from 2016 to 2020, where she launched Decibel.
