Amy Davis & Joel Eisenbaum have a new banjo of joy

KPRC 2 reporters Amy Davis and Joel Eisenbaum deliver baby boy

Amy Davis
Amy Davis
KPRC 2 reporters Amy Davis and Joel Eisenbaum have delivered their latest package of joy. TV people, did you get that? Package? Like a TV story but I called the baby...OK never mind, I'll shut up.

Anyways, welcome Thomas Banjo Eisenbaum into the world who was born last weekend. He weighed in at 6lbs. 11oz.

"Spending my mornings (& days & nights) with this little man," the proud mamma posted on Facebook. "My new alarm clock that goes off every 2 hours. He even smiled for his introduction!"

Sounds like he's TV ready with a million dollar smile!

Thomas makes a trifecta of kids for the Eisenbaum's. As I've blogged before, the TV power couple had Piper in 2014 and Jackson in 2011.

Congrats!

Spending my mornings (& days & nights) with this little man! Happy Thursday from Tommy Banjo Eisenbaum- my new alarm clock that goes off every 2 hours. He even smiled for his introduction!

KPRC 2 consumer reporter Amy Davis was out after delivering Thomas Banjo Eisenbaum last September.

"These last few months have gone by incredibly fast, even if some days with three little ones seemed to never end," Davis wrote. "I am blessed beyond measure that I had the opportunity to stay home the last 12 weeks with my new son Tommy, my daughter Piper and my oldest Jack."

Amy Davis and Joel Eisenbaum have baby girl

KPRC Local 2 investigators Amy Davis and Joel Eisenbaum bring Piper Molly Eisenbaum into the world

Is it over? I think the 2013-14 Houston TV baby wave has finally come to an end.

KPRC 2 reporters and TV power couple Amy Davis and Joel Eisenbaum just brought Piper Molly Eisenbaum into the world yesterday. She weighed 6 lbs. and 10 oz.

Amy Davis
Amy Davis
Piper joins big brother Jackson Five who arrived into the couple's life in 2011.

Davis had joked with mikemcguff.com back in August that the little girl's name might be Janet or LaToya to keep in step with her older brother - but as we know now, that did not happen.

The Janet name could have been great especially if she ever got tired of being called a cute baby. Her response could have been, "My first name ain't baby, it's Janet – Miss Eisenbaum if you're nasty."

Congrats!

Amy Davis has on-camera confrontation with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner

KPRC 2 investigative reporter Amy Davis has been working a long time on a series about high Houston water bills and is still looking for answers.

So Davis went to a public event at the city and asked Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner questions about the water bills.

As you can see in the above KPRC 2 raw video, the mayor did not appreciate Davis confronting him at this event and had some words for her on camera calling the reporter "very rude" and not professional. Turner said he will call KPRC 2 General Manager Phil Lane about the incident.

Turner asked his Director of Communications, Mary Benton, to escort Davis away.

In the video, you can hear Davis saying she sent an email with questions, and then you hear Benton saying she did not receive those questions.

Fellow journalists came out in support of Davis on Twitter.

UPDATE WITH OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Houston, TX – January 23, 2025 – KPRC 2 is proud to announce that its investigative series, "DRAINED," has been awarded the esteemed duPont-Columbia Award, recognizing excellence in journalism.

The series, led by investigative reporter Amy Davis and the KPRC 2 Investigates team, delved into the pervasive issues of excessive water bills, faulty water meters, and mismanagement of city contracts.

"It's an incredible honor for our team, and it's all thanks to your trust in us to tell the stories that matter most to our community," said Davis, who received the award in New York City last night.

The "DRAINED" series brought to light the challenges faced by numerous Houstonians who received inaccurate water bills, often amounting to thousands of dollars. Through meticulous research and compelling storytelling, the team not only highlighted individual hardships but also spurred significant changes within the city's water billing system. Since 2022, the KPRC 2 Investigates team has helped customers get more than $300,000 in refunds and credits. And the reporting exposed shady contracts dealing with Houston water line repairs that led to the arrest of seven people.

“We are grateful for the recognition, but even more so for the Houstonians who trusted us to share their stories and be their advocate when the system failed them,” said KPRC 2 News Director Ana Lastra.

The duPont-Columbia Award is one of journalism's most prestigious honors, celebrating outstanding broadcast and digital reporting. This recognition underscores KPRC 2 Investigates' commitment to exposing problems and finding solutions that make Houston a better place to live.

Amy Davis celebrating 20 with KPRC 2

Amy Davis is celebrating her 20th anniversary with KPRC 2 Houston. She joined the station in May 2005 as an investigative reporter.

Over the past two decades, Davis has become a prominent figure in Houston journalism, known for her impactful investigative work. Her dedication to uncovering issues affecting the community has led to significant changes, including exposing scam artists, influencing state laws and city ordinances, and helping consumers recover funds from businesses.

One of her most notable achievements is the "DRAINED" investigative series, which delved into problems within Houston's Public Works water department. This series not only highlighted issues like overbilling and mismanagement but also led to substantial reforms and the arrest of individuals involved in corrupt practices.

The series earned Davis and the KPRC 2 Investigates team the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award in 2025 and a 2024 Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) Award.

Before joining KPRC, the Aldine Senior High School and University of Houston grad sharpened her reporting skills across multiple markets.

From 2002 to 2005, Davis worked as a reporter at News 4 San Antonio, WOAI.

Before that, she reported for WLOS ABC 13 Asheville, North Carolina, from 1999 to 2002, and began her broadcast journalism career at KBTV Beaumont, where she served from 1997 to 1999.

KPRC's Amy Davis & Joel Eisenbaum expecting a baby girl

Houston TV having second baby wave!

Just this morning I posted that KTRK abc13 morning meteorologist Casey Curry is pregnant. Then I posted about KHOU 11 reporter Jeremy Desel and his wife having a little boy.

Then I get the news that KPRC 2 reporters and TV power couple Amy Davis and Joel Eisenbaum are having a little girl!

"She's due in February," Davis told mikemcguff.com. "Jackson Five is very excited. Names up for consideration are Janet or LaToya."

I like those names. You might remember that Jackson Eisenbaum was part of the original KPRC 2 baby brigade of 2011.

So where does this leave us?

By my count, here are the other current Houston TV folks with child.

Fox 26 KRIV weekend morning anchor Sally MacDonald with baby number two.

Fox 26 KRIV morning anchor Chris Stipes and his wife, KTRK abc13 weekend morning anchor Elissa Rivas, are also expecting their second child.

KTRK abc13 reporter/fill-in anchor Miya Shay and husband Gene Wu are expecting their first.

KPRC 2 morning anchor Lauren Freeman is expecting baby number 3. Freeman, like Davis, was also part of the KPRC Baby Wave of 2011.

Do I need to start a new blog all about Houston TV babies?

Where is Anavid Reyes?

Anavid Reyes

We now have an answer as to the whereabouts of KPRC 2 morning traffic anchor Anavid Reyes.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2023
Anavid Reyes to leave KPRC 2

"She was on vacation for 2 weeks," KPRC 2 consumer reporter Amy Davis responded when asked about Reyes on Facebook.  "Now I think she is waiting to make sure she is not sick after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for covid."

As I posted earlier, lots of loyal Anavid Reyes viewers were hitting me up for answers on where she had been lately.

Reyes had not been on TV since late December, nor updated her station social media accounts since then.

She returned on January 17th, 2022.

* This post was updated with Amy Davis's Facebook response and Anavid Reyes's return date

(Thanks Mark!)

KPRC 2 expands 6pm newscast

KPRC 2 Houston

KPRC 2 Houston has expanded its 6pm newscast to 7pm during the Winter Olympics, replacing the long-running Entertainment Tonight.

And when I say long-running, ET has been in that time-slot since I was a kid back in the 1980s! Remember the John Tesh and Mary Hart days?

After receiving Channel 2 viewer questions about the newscast expansion, I reached out to the station, but never heard back. My guess is that the station brass are saying to me, "Hey, dunderpate, you can turn on the TV and figure it out yourself!"

I can take a hint, so last Friday, I did just that.

The half-hour extension with Keith Garvin and Stephania Jimenez covered the day's news and weather with Anthony Yanez, and around the 6:40pm mark, it shifted into Winter Olympic Coverage with Daniella Guzman.

Now I am no duPont-Columbia Award winner like investigator Amy Davis, but since I'm investigating all this on my own (by doing the hard labor of looking at online TV schedules), the KPRC 2 6:30pm expanded newscast continues to air this week...but here is the gotcha part!  Next week, after the Olympics end, Entertainment Tonight will be back to its normal time.

Is that Murrow-worthy work or what?  Actually, don't answer that...

Speaking of Amy Davis and not hearing back from KPRC, I heard that she and Bill Spencer were swapping schedules.  I asked KPRC for comment weeks ago, and never heard back.

Stay tuned.

KPRC 2's baby brigade in video/photos

Nothing stormed the Houston TV news world like the baby train that hit KPRC 2. Now anchor Owen Conflenti shows off the babies of Lauren Freeman, Rachel McNeill, Amy Davis/Joel Eisenbaum, Courtney Zavala and Daniella Guzman.

Lauren's Freeman's son, Harrison, is the oldest of the baby brigade, followed by Amy Davis' son, Jackson Five, Courtney Zavala's son, Andrew James, Rachel McNeill's son, Hudson Pierce, and Daniella Guzman's daughter, Sophia. Sophia is the only girl out of the five babies.
"She is going to have a lot of options for prom dates," laughed Guzman.
You can see even more photos on Mary Benton's blog. Benton has done a great job updating us on what was truly a developing story as the babies arrived.

Houston Media Roundtable December 2025

Shara Fryer and Wayne Dolcefino

The legendary Houston Media Roundtable returned in December 2025 after a few years' absence.

Phil Archer, Wayne Dolcefino, Robert Eckels, and Bob Martin organized the Christmas luncheon at Molina’s on Bellaire on December 16, 2025.

As the official media blogger for Houston, I was honored to snap a few photos.  Special thanks to Ceci Twachtman for letting me use her phone photos when I had to step out for a bit.

It was a reunion of KPRC 2, KHOU 11, ABC13 KTRK, FOX 26 KRIV, and WB39 KHWB staffers, as well as 740 KTRH staffers (some of whom had worked at several of the above stations).

In attendance in no particular order were Deborah Wrigley, Mary Benton, Ford Atkinson, Bill Sadler, Bill King, Margaret O'Brien-Nelson, Shara Fryer, Fran Fawcett, Annise Parker, Patti Knudson Joiner, Bob Borocoff, Mike McGuff, Amy Davis, Pat Lykos, Ceci Twachtman, Janice Evans-Davis, Dan Cogdell, Tom Koch, Andy Williams, Chris Tritico, Joe Nolan, Doug Miller, and Diana Sanders.

In light of Dave Ward's death, the previously scheduled lunch became an event honoring the legendary Houston anchor.

The last time the Roundtable reconvened was for the retirement party for Phil Archer, Deborah Wrigley, and Tom Koch in 2022.

KPRC 2 reporter power couple's latest investigation...dirty diapers

This is the time to be a fugitive or scam artist in Houston. Why? Married KPRC 2 investigative reporters Amy Davis and Joel Eisenbaum are really busy right now.

That's right, we congratulate the TV power couple on the birth of their first son Jackson Eisenbaum.

KPRC 2 reporter Mary Benton blogs that Jackson weighed in at 7 lbs 5 oz. Click2Houston.com says he was born close to 5pm Tuesday.

The Eisenbaum-Davis clan is just the latest in a line of Houston TV folks having/expecting new bundles of joy.

KPRC 2 morning anchor Lauren Freeman was first, followed by KIAH 39 sports director Jorge Vargas.

Benton blogs about the others still waiting for their due date.

KPRC 2 anchors talk mom guilt and balancing it all

Houston Life's Courtney Zavala is sitting down with fellow KPRC 2 mothers, to discuss the mom life while juggling a TV career.

All this week, Zavala talks with Amy Davis, Sofia Ojeda and Britta Merwin about mom guilt and trying to balance it all.

“I think you have to give yourself a little bit of grace, because it’s not going to go away," Davis said.  "You’re not going to be perfect. What I’ve found is I’m never going to do everything 100% to my satisfaction at work, or 100% to my satisfaction at home. So you have to find the balance.”

The KPRC journalists also discuss what its like going virtual and working from home.

"In our business, perfection is sort of a standard. We try not to make mistakes, especially technically and all of that," Zavala said.  "When you’re at home...during a pandemic, all bets are off. We were lucky to get it on the air.”
