Ari Alexander announced he is leaving his KPRC 2 Houston weekend sports/anchor position.
Here is what Alexander said during the Channel 2 newscast Saturday night:
"Tonight is my last sportscast here at KPRC 2. It's been a great six years in Houston. This city and its people have meant an immeasurable amount to me.
When I came here, I knew one or two people and I just wanted to fit in, wanted to do an outstanding job. And over the past six years, I've gotten the privilege to tell the stories of the athletes, the coaches, the people of Houston and have gotten to experience the thrill of champagne showers in a World Series clubhouse, the chilly London air on a Texans road trip, and the excitement of Toyota Center and Shell and Fertitta Center on game day and more, day in and day out.
I met my wife, Ashley, here in Houston, and when we first started dating, she'd always ask me, does this feel like home to you? And at first, I'm still using Google Maps to get around. I don't know a lot of people, and now I can confidently say Houston feels like home to me.
Six years, four Emmy Awards, countless stories and relationships. I am so grateful to the people here, the culture here, the friendships I've made on and off the field and the court. I grew up listening to the music of this city, and to be able to do this while wearing a grill made for me by my friend Paul Wall, would make 13-year-old Ari proud and a little jealous.
Thank you to KPRC for giving me the opportunity to be a voice and a presence of the sports in this city, and I'll miss working with the great people here. Thank you. I appreciate you, and I'll always hold it down for H-Town."
- Nick Mantas joins KPRC 2 Houston
Since joining KPRC in July 2019, Alexander has hit the gym with Astros star Jeremy Peña, caught passes from D.J. Lagway, and even rocked grillz with Houston legend Paul Wall after rapping "Still Tippin'" during a newscast.
He began his television career at WMC in Memphis before spending three and a half years as a weekend sports anchor at KVOA in Tucson, Arizona.
The 7-time Emmy Award and Edward R. Murrow Award winner is a proud graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism, Class of 2013.
Born in Ukraine, Alexander immigrated to the United States in 1996 and is fluent in Russian. He got married in 2022.
