Adam Winkler back broadcasting sports

Former ABC13 Houston KTRK sports anchor Adam Winkler announced he is back broadcasting sports, this time on ESPN+.

"Excited to be part of the ESPN+ broadcast of the Southland Conference Baseball Championship," Winkler posted.  "Houston Christian University is hosting the New Orleans Privateers in a best of three series to decide the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament."

After about three years, Winkler left ABC13 on June 28, 2024, and joined Winkler Public Relations as its Director of Media Strategy and Storytelling.

In addition to weekend sports scores and highlights, Winkler became a familiar face to viewers as a news anchor on the 3 p.m. broadcast.

His role at Channel 13 marked a return home for the Spring, TX native and Klein High School graduate.

Before returning to Texas, Winkler was the sports director at WTKR 3 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Central Texas viewers will remember him from his years as weekend sports anchor at KWTX 10 in Waco/Temple/Killeen and CBS Austin KEYE.

A graduate of Southwestern University, where he played on the Pirates baseball team, Winkler launched his TV news career as a weekend sports anchor and reporter at KNOE 8 News in Monroe, Louisiana.

His work has been recognized with two Lone Star EMMY Awards and 10 nominations, as well as 21 Associated Press Broadcasters awards across Virginia, Texas, and Louisiana.

Winkler wasn't the only ABC13 employee to leave in June 2024—Brooke Taylor and Jiovanni Lieggi also left.
