Adam Winkler leaves abc13 Houston

Adam Winkler is leaving abc13 Houston KTRK on June 28, 2024, where he was a sports and news anchor/reporter, where he has been since July 12, 2021.

Here is a portion of Winkler's goodbye message on Facebook:

"The opportunity to report and anchor for the news leader in my hometown not only achieved a professional goal of mine, it was also a dream come true. I hope I’ve made you proud along the way. I also hope you know how much your support & engagement has meant to me throughout this journey.

While I’m leaving ABC13, we’re not leaving Houston. Space City is home. I hope you’ll stay in touch & keep following along, even though updates to this page may not be as frequent. (I promise to post a Tyke Tuesday or Baby Wink Wednesday every once in a while, though!)"

Not only did Winkler cover the scores and highlights as a weekend sports anchor, but he was also a regular presence on the 3pm news as a news anchor.

Channel 13 was a homecoming for Winkler, who grew up in Spring, TX, and graduated from Klein High School.

Before returning to Texas, he was the WTKR 3 Norfolk, Virginia sports director.

Blog readers from Central Texans will recognize Winkler from his many years first with KWTX 10 Waco/Temple/Killeen, followed by CBS Austin KEYE.  He was the weekend sports anchor for both stations.

The Southwestern University grad, who played on the Pirates baseball team, started his television news journey as a weekend sports anchor/reporter for KNOE 8 News Monroe, LA.

According to his bio, Winkler won two Lone Star EMMY Awards and 10 nominations. He has also earned 21 Associated Press Broadcasters awards between Virginia, Texas, and Louisiana.

Also leaving from abc13 in June 2024 are Brooke Taylor and Jiovanni Lieggi.
