HOUSTON – Susan Schiller has been named Vice President and News Director of KRIV, the FOX-owned station in Houston, announced station General Manager, D’Artagnan Bebel. Effective September 6th, Schiller will oversee all aspects of the Fox 26 News operations, reporting directly to Bebel.

In making the announcement, “We are very pleased and excited to have a news leader of Susan's caliber and experience leading our team.”

Previously, Schiller served as Vice President and News Director for KYW-TV and WPSG-TV in Philadelphia. Earlier in her career, she held producer positions at “CBS Evening News,” “CBS This Morning,” CBS News Services (Newspath), and KMOV in St. Louis, MO and WCAU in Philadelphia, where she later returned as Assistant News Director. Most recently, Schiller was Broadcast Media Advisor for the World Meeting of Families Organization during the Papal visit in Philadelphia.

Schiller added, “I am excited to join the Fox family. I look forward to working with the talented and innovative team at Fox 26 and living in Houston, an amazing city and competitive market.”

A graduate of Lindenwood University, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Political Science.

Schiller joined FOX 26 September 6, 2016.

In her time with KRIV, the station launched new newscasts and late-night programming.

The Lindenwood University grad previously worked as Vice President and News Director for CBS O&O duopoly KYW Philadelphia and WPSG 57.

Speaking of CBS, Schiller worked for almost 12 years with "The CBS Evening News" as a producer and then senior producer for "CBS This Morning. "

Before that, she was assistant news director for NBC10 Philadelphia WCAU.

Ahead of her NBC hiring, Schiller was with CBS Newspath as a senior producer.

She worked as an executive producer for KMOV News 4 (formerly KMOX-TV) St. Louis, Missouri and started her career with WCAU as a 6pm/11pm producer/writer.

HOUSTON – FOX 26 Houston will debut “The NewsEdge Early Edition” at 6 p.m. on September 14th, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller. The half-hour, weekday newscast will follow “The FOX 26 News at 5 p.m.” and precede “TMZ.” With this addition, FOX 26 will produce 10 hours of live, local news each weekday and 60 hours of local news per week, more than any other local television station in the market.

In making the announcement, Schiller stated, “Following the success of the 10 p.m. edition of ‘NewsEdge,’ we recognized there was a desire for this kind of hyper-local, interactive newscast and wanted to expand the franchise into the earlier hours, where it may resonate with more of our viewers.”

Anchored by Kaitlin Monte, “The NewsEdge Early Edition” will provide a fast-paced roundup of the most critical news of the day, highlighting key local stories. This non-traditional newscast will be conversational and follow the format of the station’s “NewsEdge at 10 p.m.,” which launched in August 2017. Meteorologist Dr. Jim Siebert will provide weather updates throughout the program, and local attorney and former judge, Charles Adams will be a contributor with a segment called ‘Making the Case.’

Monte added, “Our biggest priority with this program is to avoid wasting anyone’s time. We pack a lot in to get Houstonians ahead on the topics impacting them before they’ve even attracted mainstream attention.”

In addition, Rashi Vats has been promoted to anchor of “The FOX 26 News at 5 p.m.,” alongside Jonathan Martin. She will also contribute segments to “The NewsEdge Early Edition,” “The NewsEdge at 10 p.m.,” as well as “The FOX 26 News at 9 p.m.” Vats previously served as a reporter for the station’s morning newscasts, “Houston’s Morning Show” and “WakeUp! With Sally Mac and Lina” since 2013. Monte will continue her role as co-anchor of the “FOX 26 News at 9 p.m.” with Jonathan Martin.

Regarding the promotion, Schiller added, “Rashi’s reporting and anchoring have always reflected how much she cares about the people here, since she is one of them. We know she’ll bring her trademark high energy to evenings.”

Vats stated, “I am humbled by the opportunity to anchor the evening news in my hometown and hope to particularly make the Indian community proud. I’m the same Rashi you’ve seen in the mornings, just at a different time!”

Lee Meier named FOX 26 KRIV assistant news director

Lee Meier has been named Assistant News Director at FOX 26 Houston, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller. Reporting directly to Schiller, Meier assumes this position in late September.

In making the announcement, Schiller stated, “Lee is a highly regarded television journalist and our FOX 26 newscasts and digital platforms will benefit greatly from the breadth of her experience. We are thrilled she is coming back to Texas, and making Houston her home.”

Most recently, Meier has served as Managing Editor for WTXF, the FOX-owned station in Philadelphia, where she previously held the roles of Special Project Manager and Executive Producer. Prior to that, Meier served as an Executive Producer for WDAF in Kansas City, Missouri. Before that, she was an Executive Producer for KDBC in El Paso, Texas. Meier began her career in news as a producer for KTSM in El Paso, Texas.

A graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, Meier holds a Bachelors degree in Communications and Political Science.

Meier added, “Houston is a great city with vibrant people. I can’t wait to return to Texas as part of such a driven news team, bringing their stories to viewers each and every day.”

Stephen Morgan promoted to FOX 26 weekend morning weather anchor

Now we know why FOX 26 KRIV's Stephen Morgan was doing the "Bootloose" at the end of rodeo! Last week, when I was in London, the general assignments reporter was promoted to weekend morning meteorologist.

You might remember my post from February 2018, when I wrote about Morgan, who has Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology, taking off his reporter hat and filling in on the weather desk.

Most recently, Morgan has served as a general assignment reporter and fill in meteorologist for the station. He began his career in broadcast journalism in 2013 as an anchor and reporter at KRBK in Springfield, Missouri, where he also filled in as a meteorologist.

Sally MacDonald named FOX 26 morning anchor

Sally MacDonald has been named weekday morning anchor, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller.

Effective January 2nd, she will anchor the “FOX 26 Morning News” at 4 a.m., 5 a.m., and 9 a.m.

In making the announcement, Schiller stated, “Sally’s gifts of warmth, humor, intelligence and her love of people have made her an essential part of our morning news, whether she’s in the field reporting or behind the anchor desk. We’re excited to bring Sally to our versatile weekday morning team and share her with our viewers as they start their days.”

MacDonald has been with KRIV since January 1, 2007.

Most recently, she was a weekend morning anchor and weekday reporter at the station.

Prior to that, she was a reporter and fill-in anchor at KFDM-TV in Beaumont. TX, where she began her on-air career.

MacDonald added, “It’s a great honor and privilege to help get the day started for so many Houstonians! Houston has been home since I was a teenager, and I want viewers to know they can trust us to serve the communities I grew up in and care about deeply. Lena Maria Arango has been named weekend morning meteorologist at FOX 26 Houston, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller.

She will debut as weather anchor for “FOX 26 News Weekend” on Saturdays and Sundays on September 4th and will also contribute to “Houston’s Morning Show” on weekday mornings. Arango will provide weather reports in both English and Spanish for FOX 26’s digital platforms.  

In making the announcement, Schiller stated, “Lena Maria brings in-depth knowledge of weather forecasting and climate research, and she’s ready to apply that experience to inform viewers on how to prepare for their daily lives. Whether it’s helping them plan an outdoor birthday party or track severe weather or hurricane, she’s the perfect addition to our strong Gulf Coast Weather Authority team.” 

Most recently, Arango has served as weekend morning meteorologist and MMJ for Western Massachusetts News, a CBS/ABC/FOX triopoly in Springfield, MA (known as Lena Dziechowski). 

She was previously a research intern for the National Weather Center. While in college, she created weekly forecasts and weather blogs for the University of Massachusetts Lowell Weather Center.   

A graduate of University of Massachusetts Lowell, Arango holds a Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Environmental Studies Atmospheric Sciences. 

Arango added, “I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the FOX 26 family. I love the south, and the warmth of its weather and people. After growing up and starting my career in the northeast, I’m looking forward to trading covering blizzards for covering hurricanes.”

Chrisdyann Uribe joins Fox 26 KRIV

Chrisdyann Uribe has joined FOX 26 as a traffic reporter from KEYE Austin

HOUSTON – Chrisdyann Uribe has joined FOX 26 as a traffic reporter, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller.

Effective June 2017, Uribe will handle traffic on weekday morning newscasts, as well as report for various other newscasts.

In making the announcement, Schiller stated, “Between Chrisdyann’s many years reporting on Texas traffic, and strong presence on broadcast and social media, she is prepared to help Houston’s drivers better navigate their commutes and avoid construction projects or delays.”

Most recently, Uribe served as traffic anchor and general assignment reporter for KEYE in Austin, TX. Prior to that, she was a traffic anchor and general assignment reporter for KFOX in El Paso, TX.

A graduate of Texas State University (San Marcos), Uribe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Media.

Effective August 21st, FOX 26 will debut “THE News Edge at 10 p.m.,” announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller. This Monday-Friday half-hour newscast will follow the station’s current late newscast, “Fox 26 News at 9” and lead into “Fox 26 News Isiah Factor: Uncensored,” which will return weeknights at 10:30 p.m. With this expansion, the station will produce 57.5 hours of local news programming each week, more local news than any other station in the market.

In making the announcement, Schiller added, “This additional half hour of news allows us bring viewers’ perspectives into the issues affecting and taking place in our city and gives us an opportunity to expand our commitment to local news programming.”

Anchored by Kaitlin Monte, “THE News Edge at 10 p.m.” will offer viewers a fast-paced format, which will allow the audience to engage with FOX 26 on trending news and topics relevant to them via the station’s various social media channels.

Kaitlin Monte will also continue to anchor the 5 and 9 p.m. news alongside Jonathan Martin.

Gabby Hart has joined FOX 26 Houston as a general assignment reporter, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller.

Effective September 27th, she will report for various evening and weekend station newscasts.

Most recently, Hart served as a General Assignment reporter for KSNV-TV in Las Vegas. 

Prior to that, she was a reporter and producer for WAPT-TV in Jackson, MS. 

Before that, Hart began her career in journalism as an intern and later an assignment editor at WEWS-TV in Cleveland, OH.  

A graduate of Cleveland State University, Hart holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.  

Hart added, “Being fair, accurate, and authentic in my reporting is my main priority as a journalist. I look forward to getting to know Houstonians and telling the stories that matter to them.”

A graduate of Georgia State University, Salazar holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Policy and a Master of Science degree in Social Foundations of Education.

Lina De Florias has joined FOX 26, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller.

Effective September 24th, she will serve as a weekday morning anchor from 4 a.m. – 6 a.m., as well as report on various station newscasts.

In making the announcement, Schiller stated, “Lina brings unbridled passion and experience to the FOX 26 Morning News team. Viewers will find her to be refreshing as she delivers all the latest news and information to help them start the day.”

Most recently, De Florias served as a weekend anchor and reporter for KTVK/KPHO in Phoenix, AZ. Prior to that, she was the primary anchor for WEAR/ABC 3 in Pensacola, FL, where she earlier spent time as a traffic anchor and reporter. Previously, De Florias was a news, production, and social media intern for KTVK/3TV in Phoenix, AZ.

A graduate of Arizona State University, De Florias holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies.

De Florias added, “I’m so happy to be back on the Gulf Coast, and have fallen in love with the small town heart here in the city. I’m looking forward to keeping Houstonians informed and smiling.”

Heather Sullivan leaves FOX 26 Houston

Most recently, Sullivan served as a business, consumer, and political reporter for NBC12 WWBT-TV in Richmond, VA. Prior to that, she was a national consumer correspondent for AMERICA NOW, a product of Raycom Media. Previously, Sullivan held the position of consumer investigative reporter and anchor for WSPA-TV in Greenville, Spartanburg, SC, and, before that, in WZVN-TV in Fort Myers, Fl. She also served as an anchor, reporter and host for Ocean County Newschannel in Los Angeles. Sullivan began her career in broadcasting as an anchor and reporter for KVAL-TV in Eugene, OR.

Sullivan added, "I can't wait to help Houstonians and their families save money, fight scams and rip-offs, and make smarter financial decisions.”

A graduate of Emerson College in Boston, she holds a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Communication. She also has an MBA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

CoCo Dominguez named FOX 26 Traffic Reporter and Lifestyle Correspondent

CoCo Dominguez has been named Traffic Reporter and Lifestyle Correspondent at FOX 26 KRIV, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller.

Effective Monday, August 21st, Dominguez will serve as the traffic reporter for the “FOX 26 News at 5 p.m.” and contribute entertainment and lifestyle pieces for the “Bayou City Buzz,” a segment which appears during “The News Edge at 10 p.m.”

In making the announcement, Schiller stated, “In addition to providing our viewers with need to know rush-hour news, Coco will bring her versatility and unique perspective of Houston’s most interesting people, places and events to our newscasts.”

Since 2015, Dominguez has served as an entertainment and lifestyle contributor for the “FOX 26 Morning News” and provided segments for
“After Empire.” In addition, she temporarily served as morning traffic reporter for the station.

Earlier, she served as an anchor for KKHH Houston (CBS Radio) and before that, KLOL Mega 101 (CBS Radio).

Prior to that, Dominguez was a midday on-air personality for La Kalle 100.7 & 105.7 on KVVF/KVVZ in San Francisco (Univision Radio).

She began her career as a midday on-air personality for Party 104.9 on KPTY Houston, before moving to mornings on the station (Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation/Univision Radio).

Dominguez added, “As an everyday visitor into the homes of our FOX 26 viewers, I plan to provide behind the scenes access to some of the hottest happenings in our hometown, as well as deliver the most up-to-the-minute information on our busy Houston highways.”

Denise Middleton joins FOX 26

Denise Middleton joins FOX 26 KRIV as weekend morning anchor from KTHV Little Rock, Arkansas

HOUSTON – Denise Middleton has joined FOX 26 Houston, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller. Effective April 8th, she will serve as weekend morning anchor, in addition to reporting for various station newscasts.

In making the announcement, Schiller stated, “Denise is a multi-talented journalist and a wonderful storyteller who truly connects to the people she is reporting on. We are thrilled to give Denise the opportunity to come home and serve the community she loves.”

Most recently, Middleton served as an evening anchor and reporter at KTHV in Little Rock, Arkansas. Previously, she was a morning anchor and reporter at KSLA in Shreveport, Louisiana. Prior to that Middleton began her career in broadcasting as a general assignment reporter at KHAS in Hastings, Nebraska.

A graduate of the University of Houston, Middleton holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Middleton added, “It’s always been my dream to work in my hometown of Houston, alongside some of the anchors and reporters who inspired me to go into this field. After working in Nebraska, Louisiana and Arkansas, I look forward to working at KRIV and sharing the stories of my own community.”

Ivory Hecker joins FOX 26 KRIV

Ivory Hecker to join Fox 26 KRIV as a reporter from KARE-TV Minneapolis

Ivory Hecker has joined KRIV as a general assignment reporter, announced station Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller. Effective October 2nd, Hecker will report for various station newscasts.

Most recently, Hecker served as a reporter and early morning anchor for KARE-TV in Minneapolis. Prior to that, she held the position of reporter at stations including WLEX-TV in Lexington, KY, WACH-TV in Columbia, SC, and KBJR-TV in Duluth, MN.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Hecker holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Hecker added, “I can’t wait to be a Texan, sharing Houston’s stories and working alongside a great group of professionals who genuinely care about their community and each other.”

Remeisha Shade joins FOX 26 weather

Remeisha Shade has joined FOX 26 KRIV Houston as weekday meteorologist for the 5pm, 6pm, 9pm and 10pm newscasts starting September 2022.

 "Remeisha was inspired to pursue a career in meteorology as a teenager when she and her family lived through an F4 tornado which destroyed her neighborhood and home," FOX 26 Vice President and News Director, Susan Schiller said in a statement obtained by mikemcguff.com.  "Since then, she understands the potentially life-saving nature of weather reporting and will bring that passion to our broadcast and digital viewers."

Shade comes to Houston, to join Mike Iscovitz, Lena Maria Arango and John Dawson on the Gulf Coast Weather Authority team, from News 5 WEWS Cleveland, Ohio where she is the weekend evening meteorologist.

My blog readers will recognize Shade from her previous Texas TV jobs with NBC 5 DFW KXAS Dallas-Fort Worth and KBMT 12 Beaumont.

In fact while at KXAS, Shade covered the Metroplex's deadly tornado outbreak of December 26th, 2015.

In between DFW and Beaumont, Shade worked for WAFF 48 Huntsville, AL. 

"I'm thrilled to be returning to the south and the great state of Texas where I started my career as a meteorologist," Shade added.  "I'm passionate about weather and look forward to working with the FOX 26 weather team to bring viewers the most accurate forecasts possible."

The Florida State University Bachelor's of Science degree in Meteorology grad also is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society.

 According to her bio, Shade competed in the Miss Alabama Teen USA pageant and also won Miss Florida State University while an FSU senior. Bringing things closer to her ultimate meteorological career, Shade competed in the Miss Florida pageant performing a jazz dance which included a weather forecast.

Caroline Collins joins FOX 26 Houston

Caroline Collins is joining FOX 26 KRIV Houston in December 2022 to anchor various station evening newscasts. Collins begins on-air for January 2, 2023.

Houston morning TV TikTok war on the horizon?

Collins fills the opening from the departure of Kaitlin Monte. 

FOX 26 made the announcement last week when I was away in Big Bend.  For those keeping score, I was not ignoring the story, even though you were still seeing new posts.  I pre-wrote and scheduled some goodies to give you some extra T-Day week coverage along with stuffing and pie.  BTW, see any close call football games on Thanksgiving Day?

The Fresno Bee reports Collins has 1.5 million followers on social media and is a TikTok star.  As for me, I stopped signing up with social media companies after Snapchat.  That was my digital sign that old age is creeping in for me. Instead of going viral, I'll be going curmudgeon yelling at kids filming TikTok videos to get off my freakin' lawn!

With that many followers, she is bound to already be known in Houston.  And from my own social media messages...that totally checks out.  While I was hiking the Ernst Tinaja, many excited Houston TV viewers were messaging me about the Collins hire.

Get this...Collins earned her Master’s Degree in Communication Technology with a social media specialization.

I guess Collins in the TikTok version of former Local 12 WKRC Cincinnati's Clancy Burke who ruled TV news reporting on YouTube. 

"I'm looking forward to delivering the important news impacting these diverse Houston communities, while fully embracing the area myself," Collins added.  "From the restaurants, to sporting events, and, of course, the golf courses, I want to experience it all in the fastest growing city in the US."

Collins is joining FOX 26 from KSEE24 Sunrise News Fresno, California where she's served as a morning anchor since December 2020.

Before Fresno, Collins was a weekend evening anchor and multi-media journalist at 21 WFMJ Youngstown, OH.

The graduate of Point Park University in Pittsburgh started her TV news journey for WJET/WFXP Erie, PA as a general assignment reporter, fill-in anchor and producer. 

In addition to TV news, Collins has also hosted a national golf show, "The Swing Clinic" for FOX Sports.

Sherman Desselle joins FOX 26 KRIV

 

Sherman Desselle is joining FOX 26 KRIV Houston as a reporter and fill-in anchor starting June 28, 2022.

"I'm elated to be a part of the FOX 26 team and make Houston my home," Desselle said in a statement.  "I already have friends and family waiting to greet me there, in this culturally diverse city rich with opportunities."

Desselle comes to Houston from WDSU 6 New Orleans where he has been since 2019 as weekend anchor. 

He recently won the RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award in Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the documentary "History and Hope: Our Hidden Past." 

The Northwestern State University grad started his career with News Channel 5 KALB Alexandria, Louisiana, first as a part-time photographer - working his way up to MMJ, weekend anchor and finally morning anchor.

"Sherman is passionate about covering the issues that are often overlooked or ignored, and we are excited he will have the opportunity to bring those stories to light to help the community," FOX 26 Vice President and News Director Susan Schiller added.
