Ginger Casey, 68, who was a Houston anchor/reporter in the 1980s, has died.
Her former station NBC10 WJAR Providence, Rhode Island, reported she died last week in Houston after an illness.
Casey started working for KRIV 26 in the mid-1980s, which at the time, was owned by Metromedia.
According to the Woodson Research Center at Rice University, Casey is listed as anchoring with Hank Plante on KRIV in 1984 (Casey and Plante would eventually anchor at separate stations in San Francisco).
During this time, Casey covered the Challenger disaster as you can see in the embedded video below.
Channel 26 was purchased by FOX in March 1986.
It was also around this time that Casey joined KHOU 11.
Casey also worked for KQED - San Francisco, KCBS/KHJ/KTLA - Los Angeles, WJAR - Providence, KEYT - Santa Barbara, KTHV - Little Rock and KTVN - Reno.
The University of Nevada, Reno grad was also a US Air Force Intelligence Veteran with two patents in the field of grocery virtual reality and innovative product pickup systems.
