Ray Peters, former sports director and then evening co-anchor with Ann Harder of the then branded "News 25" KXXV Waco, Temple, Killeen, has resurfaced on the "On Texas Football" YouTube podcast.
Host University of Texas at Austin Longhorn alumnus Bobby Burton and crew welcomed Peters on the recent broadcast just in time for the upcoming big Alabama game.
"Ray is a consummate professional who enjoys doing what he loves," former KXXV colleague Will Kearney (also KTVT-KTXA-KXAS) told mikemcguff.com. "It’ll be great to see him talking about UT football. As a wise man once said, 'You can never keep a sportscaster down!' With Ray, he isn’t a dime-a-dozen sports guy. He is so good that anyone lucky to have him talk sports should consider themselves in exceptional company."
Peters left the TV news world almost 22 years ago, but as you can tell, he still has the sports reporting skills intact.
Earlier in 2023, FOX Sports’ college football lead play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson called Peters his "great mentor" when recalling career highlights with partner Joel Klatt.
Never forgotten in the Central Texas television market, Peters had an on-air reunion with his former co-anchor Harder and successor Bruce Gietzen (former abc13 KTRK sports reporter, Houston Rockets radio) in 2017.
As for Gietzen, he just retired from the Baylor University journalism department as director of student publications. I just saw Gietzen a few weeks ago and he told me how he is very involved in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame located in Waco. Go check it out when you have a chance.
Harder retired from KXXV in February 2020 after 25 years with the station.
