Brett Anthony joins KYTX CBS19

Meteorologist Brett Anthony joins KYTX CBS19 Tyler-Longview as chief meteorologist from weekends at KCTV Kansas City

Brett Anthony is heading down to Texas to be the chief meteorologist for KYTX CBS19 Tyler-Longview.

He's been the weekend meteorologist at KCTV5 - KSMO in Kansas City since 2017.

At the time of this post's publishing, Anthony has not officially left KCTV5 for the Piney Woods as he was still on the air in KC yesterday as you can see in the above video.

Still time for a last barbecue meal?

KYTX CBS19 is excited to have Anthony and his nearly 30 years of weather experience, as his bio is already online on the East Texas news website.

Before KCTV5, Anthony worked for KJRH 2 Tulsa as the station's chief meteorologist for for years. Jay Cronley at Tulsa World even wrote a glowing profile of Anthony and his forecasting accountable.

Prior to Oklahoma, Anthony worked at KCTV's Kansas City competitor KSHB for 11 years.

The first TV job listed on Anthony's LinkedIn profile is as weekend met for WOIO - WUAB Cleveland, Ohio.

The two-time regional Emmy award winner has a meteorology degree from Western Kentucky University and a radio-TV degree from Southern Illinois University.

Tyler TV-newspaper partnership could point to future

Television newsrooms and newspapers team up in many cities, but the partnership in Tyler, TX could become more of the norm.

It seems that 16 reporters from the Tyler Morning Telegraph regularly appear on CBS 19 KYTX:

Telegraph Editor Dave Berry says that after some initial camera-fright, virtually every Telegraph reporter-including those covering business, the arts and religion-goes live from the newsroom, which is connected via fiber to KYTX's digs. Berry adds that many have enjoyed a heightened profile in the market since the partnership debuted in late 2009. "Newspaper reporters generally labor in obscurity," he says. "This gives us a chance to put them out in public."

Telegraph Publisher Nelson Clyde says the arrangement adds another dimension to both his reporters and the paper. "It makes us a multimedia company," he notes. "It makes [KYTX] one, too." READ THE REST

The article goes onto say that KYTX owner London Broadcasting would like to push this model to its other stations KCEN in Waco and KBMT in Beaumont.

I think government regulations will eventually be relaxed due to media pressure. Newspapers and TV stations will once again be able to be owned by the same company. This will be the way the industry fights economic pressures - by consolidating. Good luck to the TV stations that don't combine with the newspaper.

Bryce Brauneisen left CBS19 KYTX Tyler in August 2024, where he was a sports anchor.

Brauneisen joined KYTX as a multi-skilled journalist in January 2022.

The California Lutheran University grad worked for the campus radio station KCLU as a student.

Shardae LaRae is engaged

Shardae LaRae recently received a big surprise during the CBS19 KYTX Tyler noon newscast when her boyfriend Tamaron walked in to propose leaving the stunned anchor to ask "are we on air?"

"I'm going to switch the roles for a second, I'm going to ask you an interview question, OK," now fiancé Tamaron asked LaRae while pulling out the ring and getting on one knee.

With East Texas viewers at home and the couple's family off to the side of the studio set watching, LaRae responded with "Of course!" to the live engagement.

LaRae recently told mikemcguff.com that her co-workers helped make the live event happen:

"I’m still on cloud 9 after finding out I’ll be marrying the man of my dreams. I was very very shocked when the surprise happened and the fact that my amazing News Director Kristy Nation and my co-anchor Chandlor Jordan helped him pull it all off is amazing!
Lol When I was on air I was clearly trying to read the prompter but noticed it wasn’t scrolling so I just started ad-libbing the script and as you can see in the clip I looked over and *bloop* there he was!
I instantly felt like I was floating because at that moment I knew why he was there. Once I saw my family trailing in the studio behind him I was so floored and overwhelmed with emotion.
Right now we are looking at a late Fall or early Spring wedding in 2024. Gotta see what city my next market will take me!"

LaRae, who anchors KYTX's "The Morning Loop" and "The Noon Show on CBS19" joined the station in 2021.

She previously anchored the "Today in Amarillo" morning newscast for KAMR Local 4 News Amarillo.

The University of North Texas grad also worked as a digital multimedia journalist for 23ABC KERO Bakersfield, California and a producer for NewsFix KDAF 33 Dallas / Fort Worth.

KHOU, KENS, KYTX to remain CBS affiliates

KHOU Houston, KENS San Antonio, KYTX Tyler to remain CBS affiliates with renewed agreements

CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS) and TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) today announced a comprehensive, multi-year deal that renews station affiliation agreements for 11 TEGNA markets nationwide, including two top 10 markets – Washington, D.C. and Houston, Texas. The 11 markets renewed cover 10% percent of the U.S. audience and nearly 11 million households.

TEGNA CBS affiliates are also locally available to subscribers of CBS All Access, the Network's subscription video on demand streaming platform.

Dana Hughey takes leave from CBS19 KYTX Tyler

Dana Hughey has taken leave from the CBS19 KYTX Tyler, Texas morning newscast where she is an anchor.

"SMILING to hold back the tears," Hughey posted on Facebook. "I will miss seeing these beautiful souls on the regular! Keeping the faith that is just #seeyalater!!!"

Hughey hopes it's just a "see you later" because the the "Morning Loop" and "The Noon Show" anchor is taking off to take care of her mother who is battling cancer.

The native East Texan and Texas A&M grad has worked for KTRE and KLTV too. She has been with KYTX since 2010.

In the below video, Hughey is reunited with her former co-anchor Bryan Houston. San Antonio viewers watch his son, Matt Houston on KENS 5.

Joel Robinson joins KYTX CBS19 East Texas

Joel Robinson joined KYTX CBS19 Tyler as the weekend meteorologist in June 2025, and by July was on the morning shift following the departure of Sara Blue.

Joel Robinson joins WZZM 13 On Your Side

Robinson earned a bachelor's degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in May 2025, where he was actively involved in OU Nightly and the Oklahoma Weather Lab. He interned with WLNS Lansing, Michigan.

Earlier in his career, Robinson contributed written forecasts for the Genesee County Sentinel and delivered on-air weather reports for News Central 34 while attending Central Michigan University for a year.

It appears Robinson is taking over for Savannah Hale, who left KYTX a few months ago.

Brennon Gurley joins KYTX CBS19 East Texas

Brennon Gurley joins KYTX CBS19 East Texas as 6, 6:30 and 10pm anchor with Marangeli Lopez from Spectrum News 1 Kentucky where he was an anchor/reporter since September 2020.

This is a return for the Bullard, TX raised (Plano native) anchor to his home television market which serves the likes of Tyler, Longview and Nacogdoches.

Gurley previously worked across the street as an anchor/multimedia journalist for KLTV 7.

The Arkansas State University grad started his TV career in Springfield, Missouri working as an MMJ for FOX 5 KRBK and KOLR 10.

He interned in the broadcasting department of the Dallas Cowboys.

Gurley takes over for Aaron Baker who left the CBS19 anchor desk in July 2022 after two years. Baker joined WYFF News 4 Greenville, South Carolina as an anchor and reporter in October 2022.

Ashley Moore joins 9News KUSA Denver

Ashley Moore left her CBS19 KYTX East Texas weekday sports anchor role to join TEGNA sister station 9News KUSA Denver.

Moore has been with KYTX since December 2017 as a producer/reporter and then sports anchor as of 2021.

A native of Longview, Moore is a University of Houston grad with a master's degree from Syracuse University.

She interned with abc13 KTRK Houston, ESPN Houston 97.5 KFNC and WTOL 11 Toledo, Ohio.

UPDATE: Ashley Moore joined TEGNA sister-station KARE 11 Minneapolis, Minnesota, as a sports anchor and multi-skilled journalist (MSJ) in January 2026.

Sara Blue joins CBS19 KYTX

Sara Blue joins CBS19 KYTX East Texas as morning meteorologist.

She is a Summa Cum Laude from the Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. She interned with ABC15 KNXV Phoenix and was a weather anchor for the school's Cronkite News.

Dan Mallea also joins the station as a reporter after graduating from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

Savannah Hale leaves CBS19 KYTX Tyler

Savannah Hale left her weekend weather forecaster and multi-skilled journalist (MSJ) position with CBS19 KYTX Tyler in February 2025.

Here is what Hale posted on social:

"I never imagined all the opportunities I’d get, relationships I’d build, challenges I’d overcome and how much I could grow in just two years.
I’ve without a doubt been blessed to have ended up on such a great team serving such a great community. Here’s some pictures of my last few days with people I’ll truly miss working with.
Here’s to the next chapter!"

Hale joined the CBS19 weather team in 2023.

The Baylor University grad interned with KWTX 10 Waco-Temple-Killeen. While at Baylor, Hale was a member of the co-ed cheer team.

Elliott Longoria Moore named President-GM of KYTX Tyler

TEGNA Inc. announced that Elliott Longoria Moore has been named president and general manager of KYTX, the company’s CBS affiliate in Tyler, Texas, effective June 7, 2021.

Moore will be responsible for overseeing the station’s content, sales, brand, and operations across all platforms, as well as defining and executing the station’s vision and strategy.

Moore joined the TEGNA family in 2018 as a sponsorship and project manager for WFAA, TEGNA’s ABC affiliate in Dallas-Ft. Worth, where he helped increase sponsorship revenue by more than 30 percent.

His passion for growing local businesses led to his most recent role as local sales manager at KSDK, TEGNA’s NBC affiliate in St. Louis.

At KSDK, Moore focused on digital sales, achieved sales goals, and provided top-notch client solutions. This professional jump, including his background in data and digital sales management, paved the way for Moore to grow his career and take on his dream role as a general manager of a news station in his home state of Texas.

“Elliott’s enthusiasm and optimism will be a welcome addition to CBS 19,” said Lynn Beall, EVP and chief operating officer, media operations, TEGNA. “His purpose-driven and results-oriented leadership style will help the station continue to serve the East Texas community.”

Previously, Moore spent nine years at CBS Corporation with the company’s owned-and-operated Dallas-Ft. Worth stations, KTVT and KTXA, serving as a marketing manager in charge of developing new local, lifestyle content. Collaborating across sales, content and marketing, his expertise led to the enhancement of a variety of properties across the brand – CBS-11 News, The Landry Award, TXA-21’s High School Football Game of the Week – as well as the creation of local lifestyle programs such as “Texas Music Scene” and “DFW Outdoorsman.”

Fluent in Spanish, Moore began his career in the research department at Univision’s KUVN and KSTR in Dallas-Ft. Worth and worked his way up from research analyst to research director. He is a graduate of Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., and holds a B.B.A. in business, management, marketing, and related support services.

Moore is excited to return to Texas, where he and his wife Bethany and their two dogs Javier and George, will join his parents and sister who live outside of Tyler.

Shardae LaRae joins CBS19 KYTX Tyler

Shardae LaRae announced she is the new morning news anchor for CBS19 KYTX in Tyler, Texas.

"I’m back on the morning news and this time a little closer to family and friends," LaRae tweeted. "I’m excited and extremely blessed to be able to continue my morning anchor journey at the CBS affiliate in Tyler."

LaRae previously worked at KAMR Amarillo as the co-anchor for "Today in Amarillo" and as an MMJ (multi-media journalist).

Before that, she was a digital multimedia journalist for 23ABC KERO Bakersfield, California and a news producer for NewsFix on KDAF 33 Dallas-Fort Worth.

The University of North Texas grad got her start with KNOE Monroe, LA as a producer.

Mariah Conduff leaves CBS19 KYTX Tyler

Mariah Conduff left her CBS19 KYTX Tyler 'Morning Y'all' and noon co-anchor role as of January 2025 for what appears to be a TV station in a larger market.

Weekend anchor Jesus Martinez takes over for Conduff as Dana Hughey's co-anchor.

Conduff joined CBS19 in June 2021 as a multi-skilled journalist (MSJ).

A University of Oklahoma grad, Conduff became a weekend anchor in March 2022 and a morning anchor in June 2023.

Texas TV news reporter/anchor moves

Napoli Management Group announces client job moves. Here are the ones relating to Texas television.

Justin Earley is pleased to return to Texas and join KYTX in Tyler as primary anchor. Justin leaves KLRT in Little Rock where he has been the weekend anchor for the past four years.

Phil Anaya leaps forward 60 markets to report for KENS in San Antonio. Prior, he reported for KFOX in the Las Cruces Bureau.

Hayley Wielgus jumps 95 markets and joins WWSB in Sarasota as morning and noon anchor. Hayley leaves KYTX in Tyler, Texas where she was weekend anchor and reporter.

Jessica James joins KIII-TV in Corpus Christi as weekend anchor and reporter. A Texas native, Jessica leaves KBTX in Waco where she was the weekend anchor. Previously she was with KTAL in Shreveport.

Pioneering Texas TV anchor Judy Jordan dies (KDFW, KLTV, KYTX)

Judy Jordan (Greene), 79, who was the first female television news anchor of a major US city, died last week after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

According to her obituary, she started with KDFW 4 Dallas in 1966.

In 1966, the LA Times Mirror designated her as the “First Lady of Broadcasting.” On January 22, 1973, Judy became the first woman to anchor a daily, major television newscast in Dallas-Fort Worth when she was assigned to the newly created 5 p.m. Eyewitness News on KDFW Channel 4.

She was promoted, along with co-host Ray Walker, to KDFW’s 6 and 10 p.m. editions of Eyewitness News on July 30, 1973. Judy was an anchor at KDFW from 1966 to 1980. She also delivered the news on radio station KVIL during the 1980s. READ THE REST

Jordan interviewed such figures as Cary Grant, Lady Bird Johnson, Johnny Mathis, Willie Nelson, Roger Staubach and John Wayne.

The award winning journalist was also the first local TV anchor to take maternity leave according to her obituary when daughter Jordan “Jordy” Greene Roberts was born.

According to Uncle Barky, Jordan left KDFW in 1980.

In 1984, Jordan went to work for KLTV 7 Tyler where she was the weeknight anchor for “East Texas News.”

She eventually moved to CBS19 KYTX Tyler from 2005 to 2007 according to Uncle Barky.

In her final years, Jordan lived in Spring, TX.
