Simone Eli to leave KPRC 2

KPRC 2 sports reporter/anchor Simone Eli leaving for Alabama

After two years at KPRC 2, sports reporter/anchor Simone Eli is returning to Alabama.

"I've loved my time here and have created amazing relationships with folks at KPRC, but I am moving to be happier personally and continue my sports broadcasting career in Alabama (Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area)," Eli told mikemcguff.com. "I've yet to make a decision on some job offers but that'll be coming in the next couple weeks, as well."

Eli came to Houston and channel 2 from Fox 10 WALA Mobile, Alabama. Before that she worked as a TV play-by-play, color analyst and reporter for Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN).

No stranger to sports, Eli played basketball for Bowling Green State University's championship winning team that advanced to the Sweet 16.

"I just want to thank the city for welcoming me - the last two years have really been a lot of fun and full of incredible opportunities," Eli told me. "This decision comes after lots of thought and prayer, and I'm definitely excited about what's ahead personally and professionally in Alabama."

Eli's last day is next Tuesday.

So who's taking Eli's place? Well, KPRC newcomer Lainie Fritz just changed her twitter bio to Sports Reporter/Anchor.

  1. Wow, what a revolving door of females coming in and out of KPRC. Randy must like 'em young and inexperienced. Otherwise they might actually turn out to be more talented than him!!

  2. That's why I come here first, you always break the story!

  3. She tweeted a few weeks ago that her boyfriend got a job as a head coach at a HS there in Alabama, so i understand why she wants to go back. She was ok with the taped reports but she struggled reading from a teleprompter.

    2. I'm not that shocked she was going back to AL!

  4. Seems like they have a going away party at least every week at KPRC. High turnover is not the way to build a credible news operation.

  5. They have openings on the assignment desk!

  6. Can she take Sachse, Reyna and Donkey with her?

  7. Unreal. This station is a joke.

Trade one sports anchor with 2 years of experience for another. Gee...what could they have in common. Oh yeah, beautiful females. Unreal.

Are you a talented man with 10 years of experience covering pro sports? Don't even apply because we found this beautiful girl who covered 2 whole seasons of high school football. I'm sure she'll do great.

    Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

    1. Which ones are " beautiful?" Beautiful is when you can get up from bed, not comb your hair, or dye it, not put a stitch of makeup on and still turn heads. I think you are looking for " hot." Hot is when you are naturally average, or unattractive, but use things to make yourself ten times better. There was actually an article about this in the paper this week. They talked about a study that showed, which I have always known, that people find women who wear lots of makeup and who fix their hair more attractive than women who actually look good without makeup. They also get more money and more jobs. Sad how much pretending to be someone else pays off, isn't it?

    2. Neither McIlvoy nor his rotating estrogen experiments are qualified for this top 15 media market. Keep Phil Archer and Syan Rhodes and fire the rest. They're all horrible at 2. And whatever Producer is telling everyone to brag/lie they were the firsy or only to bring you a report...fire that nag too. "We were the first to report this murder" "we were the first to talk to the dead man's wife"....what a bunch of pukes.

    3. Syan Rhodes is extremely beautiful

    4. Is she the big girl with the big boobs? Nothing wrong with that. I was just wondering. If she is, at least you find regular women attractive.

    5. Rhodes is very 'well endowed' on the backend...and she actually does a pretty nice job when running the desk solo!

  8. @ Anon 8:46AM, all you have to do is watch the current noon "anchors" to know what's wrong at KPRC. Narcissism, implants and (wrongly assumed) sex appeal always trumps talent at that station.

    1. Clearly talent and experience is SO far down their list of importance. I might be able to understand that in a smaller market. Maybe. But a top 5 market where millions of people are out there...so stupid.

    2. I know the news stations here are horrific. FOX 26 being the most horrible of them all. The other ones aren't too much better. How does Art keep his job and why do people think he is good? He can't finish a newscast without butchering words at least 10 times in 30 minutes. I just don't get it! A few weeks ago, I was watching 13 and the traffic girl was talking about that accident where the roof of the car got sliced off. First she said, they didn't know what happened to the person in the car, then she said they died, then she came back and said they were still alive. Could you imagine knowing that person and hearing they were dead, when they were still alive? That kind of error, of not doing research before you speak, was ground for being fired years ago, but now...no!!

  9. Sorry to see her leave. They seem to lose all the good sports reporters but Randy sticks around...good to be the boss I guess. Wish Simone the best and keep doing what you're doing!! She was always full of energy and enthusiastic while on air and loved her takes.

  10. Well since Chita is getting married, I'm probably going to have Lainie Fritz as my new crush.

    1. Chita, Reyna and Sachse. Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists in the Olympic Sport of "overrated newsreaders deemed hot and talented". (Tho Sachse may be stripped of her medal due to testing positive for collegen and excessive amounts of hair dye and arrogance in her system, in which case The Donch or Haas take Bronze).

    2. Ha! I just saw No Read Reyna butcher more street names on her 9AM traffic update. She is so out of her league in television. Time for a pink slip (and no, Reyna...you can't wear the pink slip...)

    3. Why do you need a " crush" on TV? It's sad and creepy. Why don't you do what normal people do and watch TV to see what the hell is happening and what to avoid?

    4. Reyna can mispronounce her words to me me any day she wants do. I have GPS with traffic reports, anyway.

  11. Speaking of Chita getting married....isn't Lily Jang suppose to be getting married? I think she got engaged before Chita and Whaley....but what's up now? Is Jang no longer doing that Chef dude? I know his restaurant went belly up last year. Maybe she dumped his ass because he was mooching off her $$$ to pay for that restaurant?

  12. Good luck Simone we'll miss you.

  13. I don't care much for sports but looked forward to seeing Simone Eli reporting on it anyway. She is the freshest face I've seen on KPRC in some time. She always looked great, toned and athletic. As a native Houstonian, I have watched Channel 2 news since it first came on the air. I am now done with it. Their willingness to hire and fire personnel whom their viewers adore is a source of near constant irritation and bafflement for me.
