Bill Churchwell has been named the new KIII 3NEWS Corpus Christi weekend evening anchor beginning August 30, 2025.
“For nearly two decades, I’ve had the privilege of hitting the streets and telling your stories, and I’m incredibly grateful for that," Churchwell said. "This new opportunity as weekend anchor gives me the chance to grow further as a journalist while continuing to bring viewers a comprehensive look at the issues that matter to all of us who call the Coastal Bend home.”
He takes over weekend anchoring from Brian Burns, who resigned a few months ago.
Joining KIII in 2007, Churchwell will continue his work in the field as a multimedia journalist (MSJ) Monday through Wednesday.
Before Corpus, Chuchwell previously worked as a reporter at KRNV News 4 in Reno, Nevada (2005–2007) and as an anchor/reporter at NewsWest 9 KWES in Midland-Odessa (2003–2005).
A two-time recipient of the prestigious Charles E. Green Award for Best Reporter in Texas, receiving the honor in both 2017 and 2024, he is a 2001 graduate from Angelo State University.
“Bill’s depth of experience, newsroom leadership, and connection to our community make him a perfect fit for this role,” said News Director Jonathan Munson. “Our viewers know him, trust him, and count on his reporting. We’re proud to have him take on this next chapter at 3NEWS.”
