Eric Burns of Fox News Watch fired

If you read this blog with any regularity, you know I enjoy media criticism. On the weekends, I always try to catch both Fox News Watch and CNN's Reliable Sources.

Last week, I saw bad news on several blogs about the Fox News Watch host, Eric Burns:

Last week, the show’s moderator, Eric Burns, was told he would be terminated within the next two months. In an interview, he said he was startled by his sudden and unexplained dismissal, although last year his employment status was reduced from staff to contributor.

In another shift, Neal Gabler, a media writer and historian who was a weekly panelist on “Fox News Watch” until last November, said that Fox had offered to renew his agreement but had never given him a new contract, leaving him in limbo. Ms. Klinghoffer disputed Mr. Gabler’s account and said the two parties could not come to terms.

For five years, Mr. Gabler was considered by some to be the most critical voice of Fox News, once telling his fellow panelists that “it’s undeniable that this is a Republican-oriented network, and designed for Republicans who watch it.”

I've even read Mr. Burn's biography from his NBC days! Good luck to Burns and Gabler in the future.

Jim Pinkerton is back on Fox News Watch

Every Saturday it is interesting to see how many people come to this blog looking for my post on how Eric Burns of Fox News Watch was fired. You'd think with such interest, Fox News would bring Burns back.

As I've posted before, I stopped watching the show once Burns, Neal Gabler and Jim Pinkerton left. I became strictly a Howie Kurtz Reliable Sources watcher for my weekly media criticism discussion.

Luckily for Fox News, my DVR was still recording the show. Last weekend, I was pleased to see Jim Pinkerton return from his trip with the Huckabee campaign. That could get me watching again full-time.

Now just bring back Burns and Gabler and all will be well again.
