Mario Orellana announced on LinkedIn that he is leaving his KSAT 12 San Antonio news director position and moving into a Graham Media Group position (KSAT Owner):
Career Update: After a nearly 30-year career at KSAT, I have decided to step down as News Director effective May 5th. Serving in this role has been my greatest honor, and I am deeply grateful to have worked alongside so many talented journalists.
I am going to miss this newsroom tremendously. Being the news director in the city where I was born and raised and in the newsroom where I spent my formative years is a success story that I am immensely proud of. San Antonio has so many stories to tell, and I consider myself so blessed to have helped cover our community. I know KSAT will continue that legacy.
Orellana was promoted to the news director job in January 2023 from the assistant ND job.
He took over for Bernice Kearney, who followed former KSAT GM Phil Lane and joined Graham Media Group's sister station, KPRC 2 Houston.
Orellana started as an intern back in 1995.
He was then hired on as a sports producer in 1996.
That was followed by his rise to editor, producer, “Good Morning San Antonio” senior producer, executive producer, and assistant news director in 2019.
This means a new news director for KSAT, with a new one named for News 4 San Antonio just this week.
