Casey Curry is expecting a girl

Casey Curry announced on her website caseyweather.com today that she and husband Carl Hahn are expecting their first child!

The extremely popular KTRK abc13 morning meteorologist said it in a simple two sentence announcement:

"Carl & I are happy to report we are expecting our first baby! As you can see by Nanook’s face, she was very surprised to learn she is going to become a big sister. SEE THE PHOTOS ASSOCIATED WITH THE POST HERE"

I figured this announcement was coming soon since many readers have been searching on a daily basis on this blog for some variation of "casey curry pregnant" or "is casey curry pregnant?" Nothing gets past you when it comes to Curry.

As I've written before, Hahn proposed to Curry in Michigan (where he is from), on a trip to see the Michigan vs Illinois game for homecoming weekend. The Houston couple was married in Waikoloa, Hawaii last March.

Hahn proposed to Curry in Michigan (where he is from) and the couple was married in Waikoloa, Hawaii last March.

As Curry mentioned on her blog, the baby is due in early February.

Casey Curry returned to the 11am news today with a wrapped arm.

Anchor Melanie Lawson introduced her with something to the effect, "Here are some words I haven't said in awhile, here's meteorologist Casey Curry."

It has been a long time. Curry was injured during the 11am news back on September 15, 2015 and broke her wrist.

Casey Curry is back at KTRK abc13, but was not on the 11am news Tuesday morning.

It just so happens that I was answering reader emails last night about KTRK abc13 meteorologist Casey Curry's whereabouts.

But really, what makes last night different from any other?  I get so many inquiries about Curry's return that I was considering hiring an assistant to field them for me.

Well, forget all of that because CASEY CURRY HAS BEEN PHOTOGRAPHED INSIDE THE KTRK ABC13 STUDIO!!!!!

Miya Shay tweeted this photo of her with Curry and anchor Samica Knight.

"BreakingNews! Guess who's back at #abc13," Shay asked in a tweet. "@CaseyWeather! We missed her! #welcomeback"

I'm sure they have missed her. It's been four months since Curry fell on the day old KTRK set live during the 11am newscast, breaking her wrist. Afterwards she debuted a pink camo cast.

Curry fans were writing in worrying she was never coming back. I predict a Curry return with sunshine.

Looks like KTRK abc13 is doing a switch-a-roo with two of its popular meteorologists.

Announced on a couple of the station's newscasts yesterday, is that longtime morning met Casey Curry is switching schedules with 11am/4pm met Travis Herzog starting Monday, August 3rd.

"Yes, we're really going to miss our sweet Travis at 11, but I can always see him on early," tweeted anchor Melanie Lawson.

Curry joined the channel 13 morning news back in August of 2006 replacing Doug Brown. She's a big deal on this blog since a news item about Curry was my top post of all time for years. That is until KTRK demoted morning anchor Sharron Melton. Since then Melton has been in the top spot.

Herzog joined KTRK a month before Curry in 2006 from KBTX in College Station. If memory serves he started at KTRK as the weekend morning meteorologist and then a few years later moved to the 11am and 4pm newscasts. For those not in the news business, these shows are not as high profile as the morning or 10pm newscasts, but they are great to work because they are normal hours.

Naturally, channel 13 viewers want to know why the move! Well, if you regularly read my blog, you've seen lots of changes at KTRK abc13 in the last few years. Expect more including a brand new news set! The Disney/ABC Television Group station's once dominant morning show hasn't been so dominant since November 2013. Since then, KPRC rose to the top with FOX 26 KRIV being the latest morning news winner as of May 2015.

Also, I would imagine the retirement of one Don Nelson has something to do with it. The station might feel it needs to add one more male back to the morning team since Nelson was replaced by Katherine Whaley.

KTRK did not respond to requests for info on this swap.

On a related abc13 note, this morning DISH customers saw a yellow screen in place of or over KTRK. Viewers were complaining on social media. DISH responded in a tweet it was KTRK's issue.

After a fall on live TV during the station's 11am newscast Tuesday, KTRK abc13's Casey Curry is now healing a broken wrist.

"Thank you for all you sweet tweets," Curry tweeted later that evening. "I had the BEST care today from @cohoustonfire firefighters & paramedics & the staff @memorialhermann."

After the fall, concerned viewers flooded social media to find out the popular meteorologist's condition and offer their thoughts and prayers.

While I did not see the fall on television, I did see it on Instagram (embedded below).

Here is video of the fall and now I can see why viewers were reaching out to Curry with concern. As someone who has twisted ankles before, my heart goes out to her.

Viewers pointed out on social media that KTRK just debuted its new set the past weekend, so maybe she wasn't quite used to it yet.

I'm breaking in on a Sunday morning to report on KTRK abc13 meteorologist Casey Curry leaving the station and KEYE Austin's Collin Myers' arrival in Houston at channel 13.

Sources tell me that Curry is no longer with abc13 and the fact that she has been removed from the station's website confirms that.

My readers are reporting that at 9am this morning, abc13 meteorologist Elita Loresca introduced Myers on air as the new weekend morning met.

Loresca will be moving to the 11am and 4pm newscasts where Curry has worked for several years.

According to her bio, Curry has worked at KTRK since August of 2006. She eventually took Doug Brown's spot on the morning show after he retired.

My blog is by no means an official determination of on-air talent popularity in Houston, but by going on which posts are the most popular here, Curry is in the top echelon.

If you are reading this, most likely you are a big fan.

Then you will probably know that Curry devotes a lot of time to charitable work in Houston. Just follow her on social media and you will see her work and support of charities like Red Collar Rescue, Texas Wildlife Rehab Coalition and Friends of BARC.

She even got a chance to go national as a fill-in on ABC's Good Morning America in 2011.

In 2015, mid-day meteorologist Travis Herzog and Curry swapped shifts.

A few months later, after the station's new set debuted, Curry took a nasty fall on live television which resulted in a broken wrist.

Prior to Houston, Curry most recently had worked places like FOX 4 WDAF Kansas City and KWGN Denver. Before that she worked in Indianapolis, Chicago and Abilene, TX. She got her TV start in Victoria, which for those not in Texas, is very close to Houston.

She is a graduate of the University of Colorado.

Sorry guys...one of the most popular on air talents in Houston is off the singles list. KTRK 13 morning meteorologist Casey Curry announced this morning on air that she is now engaged.

Curry's finance, Carl Hahn, proposed to her in Michigan (where he is from), on a trip to see the Michigan vs Illinois game for homecoming weekend.

She said on air that it was not one of those big public engagements, because she is no fan of those. When asked what she would have done if Hahn had proposed openly at the stadium for the crowd to see, she responded, "I probably would have punched him."

Then she would have said yes anyway of course.

KTRK 13 morning meteorologist Casey Curry served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the Second Annual “What to Wear to that Equestrian Affaire” Fashion Presentation and Luncheon put on by the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show and The Houston Polo Club.

 The event, held at The Wynden in late February, had 168 supporters of children's charities in attendance. It grossed more than $55,000 for three non-profit organizations: Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston’s Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance.

Other media in attendance included Roseann Rogers for Prime Living, Marcy de Luna for Houstonia Magazine, Wendy Reeves for Health & Fitness Sports Magazine, Catherine Anspon for PaperCity and Lara Bell for Absolutely Memorial and Absolutely Katy magazines.

Lynn Walsh, president of Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, welcomed guests and supporters to the event. Alexis Caruselle, Janine K. Iannarelli, and Elizabeth Wood served as co-chairs. Tootsies provided a variety of upscale casual and equestrian looks that were worn by guest models, all of whom have an association with Pin Oak Charity Horse Show and/or Houston Polo Club.

Pin Oak Charity Horse Show is a 501c non-profit corporation. Established in 1945, Pin Oak Charity Horse Show is one of the oldest and most prestigious horse shows in the nation. Roxanne Cook is the executive director. The Pin Oak Charity Horse will be held March 20-30, 2013, at The Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy. Spectators are welcome, and admission to most events is free.

Morning anchor Sharron Melton posted this morning that abc13 KTRK morning meteorologist Casey Curry had her baby girl yesterday (January 30, 2014).

The station is reporting the baby's name is Windsor "Winnie" Curry Hahn, and she came in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces.

After Casey Curry's recent fall during KTRK abc13's 11am newscast, there is absolutely no doubt she is still in the hearts and minds of Houston TV viewers.

In just days, that terrible event landed the extremely popular meteorologist at the number 5 position of my most read blog posts of all time. She still sits at the number 2 post of all time with her pregnancy announcement. You know who is at number 1 still by a wide margin? That's right, Sharron Melton.

While I hear Curry won't be back at work on television in the near future, Curry did debut a new look thanks to her unfortunate tumble.

"Debut of my new pink camo cast at tonight's fundraiser for CAP & Houston Achievement Place at IW Marks Jewelers," Curry posted on her Facebook page.

It's amazing what they can do with casts these days. I've never seen a pink camo before. When my three year old broke his arm last year, he was able to choose his favorite color blue as his casts look.

And look who's in the photo with the proud mother - daughter Winnie.

I thought my phone was going to blow up as ex-abc13 KTRK meteorologist Casey Curry showed up as a co-host with Derrick Shore on KPRC 2's Houston Life Monday.

See, I told you in the last post that it would be interesting to see where she showed up next. That was even faster than I anticipated.

As I told you Sunday, Curry is no longer with channel 13, so she is a free agent.

Clearly channel 2 was excited about that possibility.

The show just lost its meteorologist host Jennifer Broome, here comes meteorologist Curry to save the day!

UPDATE: After posting this, I got to the Galleria Houston Life studio as fast as possible.

Houston Life Executive Producer Don Graham tells mikemcguff.com this was a guest spot for Curry.

As I have written before, after the departure of Broome, the show held an online casting call.

Graham tells me they received more than a hundred entries. This Thursday, the show will start featuring those finalists.

He assures me Curry is still a possible candidate though.

Curry was nice enough to fill us in on what is going on through a Facebook Live video with me (embedded below). Pardon the camera work.

She says she hasn't had time to jump on social media as of late because she was busy prepping for her Houston Life appearance.

"I want to thank you guys, because you've been so sweet," Curry told mikemcguff.com concerning Houston TV viewers. "I have loved being a meteorologist for so many of you here in Houston, it's been wonderful, and I hope I'm able to stick around here in Houston and be apart of your TV life. So, now what a wonderful way to start my vacation, hanging out with my friends at channel 2 and do some Houston Life for today."

I'm sure Curry would do very well as a host of this show. She was always great at mixing the serious with the light-hearted news coverage. If the show needs weather coverage...well that's an added bonus.

"Where is Casey Curry," is the most emailed/facebooked question I get these days.

The answer is I do not know.

After taking a fall during KTRK abc13's 11am newscast in September, we haven't seen Curry since. Well, at least not on TV. On Facebook, Curry showed us her new pink/camo cast.

No doubt Curry has her fans, I meet them all the time in my inbox. Get well soon Casey.

I am about get on a flight so that may/may not impact blogging for a few days.

In the meantime, here is news about my 101 KLOL documentary. The thing is four hours long as of now. Don't worry, I am cutting it down as we speak. I know there are lots of Stevens & Pruett, Dayna Steele, Outlaw Dave, Lanny Griffith...etc. fans out there, but four hours is a bit long for even me to sit through!

Trust me, the edited down version will still be very good, actually better overall.

In early September, Curry said on Instagram that she is "just filling in until their their staff filled out and up to speed."  KPRC viewers might see Curry filling-in from time to time based on her appearances.

In the summer of 2021, the KPRC 2 weather department was down personnel thanks to the New York City departures of two meteorologists.  Britta Merwin left for the new FOX Weather and Eric Braate took off to WNBC.  

By September, Anthony Yanez returned to his channel 2 morning shift after doing weather at KNBC 4 Los Angeles for more than six years.  A few weeks later, Caroline Brown joined channel 2 Houston from WeatherNation.

Curry, who left abc13 KTRK in September 2017, immediately appeared on KPRC's Houston Life as a guest host upon her channel 13 exit.  A few days after her Houston Life appearances, Curry did fill-in weather work at FOX 26 KRIV.

While at channel 13, Curry became a viewer favorite as its morning meteorologist. We watched her give birth to baby Winnie.  She took a scary fall while on live TV that concerned many of her abc13 KTRK fans. Curry's massive Houston television news popularity even took her to the network level several times to fill-in on ABC's Good Morning America.

And as you can see from the embedded video above, Curry did another guest host stint on Houston Life in March of 2021.

Since leaving Houston television news, Curry joined the alliantgroup in 2018 as community relations director. 

A commenter on my social media said the former popular TV meteorologist should be back on Houston TV.  I almost responded that Curry seems pretty content being off TV.  Glad I didn't comment, because I would have guessed incorrectly!

It's been three years, as far as I know, since Sharron Melton and Casey Curry have appeared on television together and I can announce that drought is officially over as of this morning.

Looking at social media, the former abc13 KTRK morning show staples have clearly remained friends, so it is no surprise this television reunion has eventually happened.

If I could earn a dollar every time someone asks me the whereabouts of former abc13 meteorologist Casey Curry, first of all, I would never give you an answer so I could keep making a fast buck, and I would be able to splurge at Pappasito's on the weekends.

So here is the answer to "Where is Casey Curry these days?"

After leaving channel 13 in September of 2017, I was watching Curry's every move for you from filling in at KPRC 2's Houston Life and FOX 26 KRIV's weather department.

In my world, learning Curry had left channel 13 on a Sunday, then seeing her channel 2 the next day was like the Houston media covering a big weather event. I should install a bell to ring and a "breaking news" banner to hang on the wall when stuff like this happens. You might remember this was the time I jumped in the car and drove the Galleria so I could get a comment from Curry as she walked off the Houston Life set. My own wife was like, "why can't you show this much initiative around the house?"

I was very on top of things...then I blew it. Curry took a new non-TV gig and I dropped the ball for you.

In early 2018, Curry joined the alliantgroup as Community Relations Director. The company bills itself as the premier provider of specialty tax services.

I'll admit her new gig flew under the radar for me.

So long story longer, Curry appeared on Melton's new CW39 KIAH Morning Dose show this morning to promote the 2019 Alliant Group Blue Heart Fund STEM scholarship program.

So who in the Houston media world has made my blog's top 10 posts of all time category? You've seen me mention the list, but never post it. So in honor of mikemcguff.com's 10 year existence, here are the top posts of the last decade! And to no one's surprise, Houston TV and radio are dominate with one exception.

The reason these posts are in the top 10 is by page views, so they are what readers clicked on the most.

1. Why is Sharron Melton a KTRK abc13 'field anchor' now?
No duh...huh? I've admitted the August 2014 post about Sharron Melton becoming a KTRK abc13 'field anchor' has been my number 1 post of all time for a while now. And it still remains there by leaps and bounds. From what I understand after leaving channel 13, Melton is still in Houston, but has not popped up on another station...yet.

2. Casey Curry is pregnant
There seems to be a trend of former KTRK abc13 morning folks appearing in my top spots of all time. Based on your reaction, KTRK abc13 meteorologist Casey Curry's birth announcement was akin to the royal family declaring the coming arrival of an heir to the throne. You couldn't stop reading! So I kept updating you through the whole event. Windsor "Winnie" Curry Hahn was born January 30, 2014.

3. KPRC 2's Dominique Sachse gets engaged in Rome
And speaking of Houston TV royalty, the October 2011 news of KPRC 2 anchor Dominique Sachse's engagement to Nick Florescu was a can't miss read around here too. The popular couple officially tied the knot in May of 2012. Pastor Joel Osteen of Houston's Lakewood Church performed the ceremony.

4. 93.7 The Beat Houston replaces 93.7 The Arrow KKRW
I always thought that the then named Clear Channel Houston (now IHeartMedia) switched classic rocker 93.7 The Arrow KKRW to 93.7 The Beat KQBT just to mess with Radio One's 97.9 KBXX because the latter company took on 740 KTRH with News 92 KROI. Then people will tell me to take off my tinfoil hat. Either way, things in the Houston radio ratings world haven't been the same since. I personally will remember my family waiting for me to get off the computer on New Year's Eve Day 2013 as I live blogged the big 93.7 format flip. Oh, the sacrifice of the blog.

5. Casey Curry takes a fall on KTRK abc13's 11am newscast
It just happened last month (September 2015), but when Casey Curry took a fall on KTRK abc13's new set live on TV, the post almost immediately made my top 10 list. The mega-popular meteorologist has lots of concerned fans. I'm no chief weather guesser, but I can predict Curry will return with lots of warm well wishes from channel 13 viewers.

6. Casey Curry and Travis Herzog to switch places on KTRK abc13
I know, enough about Casey Curry, but I can't help it if she's the one you want to read about non-stop! When station management swapped her schedule with mid-day met Travis Herzog in July 2015, viewers stormed my blog looking for details.

7. Elita Loresca joins KTRK abc13 after LA's KNBC 4
Clearly Elita Loresca made a big splash when she arrived at Houston's KTRK abc13 in June of 2015. Just before the Bayou City, she was working mornings in Los Angeles at KNBC NBC4's “Today in LA.” I still have loyal Southern California TV viewers on my blog looking for information about her.

8. KPRC 2's Anthony Yanez heading to KNBC LA
Speaking of Los Angles TV weather, it broke many Houston TV viewers' hearts when KPRC 2 morning met Anthony Yanez announced in October 2014 he was heading west to Loresca's old stomping ground of KNBC NBC4. KPRC knew it had to gently send him off with an ad campaign that lasted till January 2015 when he officially signed off in Houston. KPRC morning weekender Britta Merwin took Yanez's spot in Houston.

9. Jane Slater & Mark Elfenbein off 105.3 The Fan KRLD's “Elf & Slater”
What! A Dallas-Fort Worth post made my top 10 of all time list? Oh the horror! Just kidding, DFW is my second biggest area in terms of readers. This was very true in September 2013 when Jane Slater and Mark Elfenbein of 105.3 The Fan KRLD mid-day show “Elf & Slater” were taken off the air. DFW sports fans were outraged apparently.

10. Katherine Whaley leaving KHOU 11
If I were a real journalist/writer, I would take a page from Bill Carter's The Late Shift: Letterman, Leno, and the Network Battle for the Night and write a book about the KHOU 11 morning traffic job. It seems like a compelling story right off the soap opera screen! First, you have popular traffic man Darby Douglas who is seemingly let go overnight in 2009 which makes channel 11 viewers madder than being stuck on 290 in afternoon rush hour. Then Katherine Whaley takes his place and develops a following of her own. Suddenly in the summer of 2014, we get notice the erstwhile traffic man Douglas is back and Whaley will become a channel 11 reporter. So, a few months later, Whaley heads for the exit ramp and to no one's surprise lands at KTRK abc13 where longtime traffic dude Don Nelson is ready to change career lanes himself and retire. Maybe one day you'll be able to read my self-published insider tell-all "The Morning Drive: Douglas, His Hair, Whaley and KHOU 11's battle for Houston commuters."

Coming up...in the last 10 years, which Houston media members were "Googled" the most to get to my blog? Even I was shocked by this one.

KTRK 13's Casey Curry becoming UH professor?

We know KTRK 13 morning meteorologist Casey Curry knows her way around Houston weather forecasting and all of the technology that goes with it. Now she is moving her know how to the college classroom.

One of Houston's most popular TV meteorologists dropped by the University of Houston last week to play college professor for a day. Students got a lesson from "Professor Curry" on television broadcasting, weather, her recent stint on "Good Morning America" and social media among other topics. Hope they took notes...there could be a pop quiz. She also toured UH's Jack J. Valenti School of Communication.

Curry recently served as the honorary chair for UH's International Association of Business Communicators "Cougar Paws for the Cause" campaign, which collected pet food for aniMeals on Wheels, a program that provides pet food for the elderly.

Casey Curry running for Houston City Council At-Large Position 3

Casey Curry, who has served as a Houston TV meteorologist for various stations over the years, has announced she's running for Houston City Council At-Large Position 3 in June 2023.

“I’m running for Houston City Council At-Large Postion #3 because I want to make a difference for every Houstonian.” Curry in a release. “I am not a career politician and I am not tainted by backroom dealings. The status quo is not serving the people, it is serving special interests. I am running to bring a fresh perspective to city government.”

In April, Curry had originally announced she was running for Houston City Council At-Large Position 1.

Curry last forecasted the weather for KPRC 2 in 2021 when the station was short meteorologists after Britta Merwin left for FOX Weather and Eric Braate joined NBC 4 WNBC New York.  

She also did fill-in weather work for FOX 26 KRIV and co-host appearances on KPRC 2's "Houston Life."

Curry, who is best known for her years as an abc13 KTRK morning meteorologist, left the station in 2017. This is where she gave birth to daughter Winnie and did fill-in work for ABC's Good Morning America. Fans became very concerned when Curry took a fall on live on channel 13 in 2015.

After leaving full-time TV behind, Curry joined the alliantgroup as community relations director in 2018.

KTRK 13's Casey Curry on GMA, must be the weekend

KTRK 13 morning meteorologist Casey Curry is quickly becoming a national darling. This weekend marks her third appearance on ABC's Good Morning America weather segment. The first was in April, the last time was just a week ago. Yes, two weekends in a row for Curry on GMA.

Normally I like to cover the news here, but Curry on GMA is almost becoming the norm. Good for her.

Here is a view from her hotel room in New York that she tweeted today.



Curry tweeted that she spent early Saturday afternoon trying to get "Anything Goes" tickets on Broadway.

Casey Curry and her engagement to Carl Hahn have kept people talking since it happened last October.

The popular abc13 KTRK morning meteorologist was even asked about the marriage date while lecturing a University of Houston's Jack J. Valenti School of Communication class.

The word on Facebook is the Curry and Hahn wedding ceremony went down today in Waikoloa, Hawaii.

"Carl and I are so thrilled to share our wedding day with you," Curry wrote on her website. "We tied the knot on Monday morning, March 18th at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day! Beautiful blue skies, a light ocean breeze and the love of our friends and family reaching us all the way in Hawaii."

Congrats to the couple!

"Carl and I were actually set up by Eyewitness News Reporter Kevin Quinn and his wife, Elizabeth," Curry told mikemcguff.com last October. "Needless to say, Elizabeth is very proud of her matchmaking skills!"

Hahn, proposed to Curry in Michigan (where he is from), on a trip to see the Michigan vs Illinois game for homecoming weekend.

Curry writes on her site that she will be back on abc13 KTRK next Monday morning.
