Roseann Rogers 'The Buzz Lady' moves to KTRK abc13

Check This Out:  "The Buzz Lady" Roseann Rogers relocates to KTRK abc13

Roseann Rogers
Roseann Rogers
Just as we saw Bob Allen move to KHOU 11 from KTRK abc13 last week, we are seeing KTRK grab a personality from other Houston TV stations.

Roseann Rogers, aka "The Buzz Lady," is about to host a new show on the ABC owned station starting this Saturday.

Check This Out is a half hour show that, "showcases anything and everything Houstonians want to know about" according to the station's website.

Rogers, who has been a fixture in Houston for almost two decades, worked at KPRC 2 from 1995-2008 in first news then sales and KTBU Channel 55 from 2008-2010 where she was Regional Sales Manager, Marketing Director and Host of Houston's Daily Buzz.

She left television after KTBU and worked at Finger Furniture as the Director of Marketing/PR from 2010-2012 (you might have seen her in TV commercials for the store).

In 2012 she joined John Daugherty Realtors as the Director of PR and Business Development where she still works today.

PR and marketing might be her focus now, but journalism and the media are still in Rogers' blood as she contributes to magazines like PRIME Living - The Luxury of Choice, Bay Area Magazine and Intown Magazine.

Now she can add TV back to that list.

"I am very excited about the new show Check This Out and working with ABC 13," Rogers told mikemcguff.com. "People have been wondering if I’d ever go back on TV and now I am. Although, I am keeping my day job!"

Rogers will be joined by producer Christina De Haven who was formerly the Director of Local Commercial Production at KPRC 2. According to the station, Rogers and Haven have produced more than 50 half hour specials together.

Check This Out will work in the same way as KHOU 11's Great Day Houston which accepts sponsorships for segments. It will produce new episodes at different points throughout the year.

Check This Out, May 4th at 10AM, KTRK abc13

Roseann Rogers AKA 'The Buzz Lady' returns on 'Houston Life'

Roseann Rogers AKA "The Buzz Lady" is one of the latest former KPRC 2 personalities to return to co-host the station's afternoon lifestyle show "Houston Life" with Derrick Shore.

This one is being posted late because I've been in three time zones in the last two weeks.   Rogers actually guest co-hosted during spring break and it came on my radar even when I wasn't in Texas!

"The response on Facebook and Instagram has been truly overwhelming," Rogers told mikemcguff.com.  "Everyone remembers me and being 'The Buzz Lady.' Reading comments from so many family members, friends, former colleagues and viewers seriously brought tears to my eyes.  I loved being a story-teller and having the opportunity to do that on KPRC Channel 2 was my dream job! I believe so many people remember me because it was before social media took over and when you're in three to four newscasts a day, a lot of people will see your segments."

For those new to Houston television, Rogers was known as "The Buzz Lady" because she hosted the channel 2 entertainment segment called "The Buzz" which debuted, if memory serves, around the same time then 107.5 The Buzz KTBZ signed on the air.  Houston was buzzy back then.

H-Town media insiders will know that Rogers also worked as KPRC's marketing director later on.  She would go on to work on-air for the now defunct version of 55 KTBU, KHOU 11 and abc13 KTRK. In addition to PR roles, she also worked as the Houston Chronicle's VP of Strategic Marketing and Development.

Rogers eventually moved to Nashville where she now works in marketing.

"Coming back from Nashville to co-host at my former station: GREAT," Rogers told me.  "I was surprised that I wasn't nervous at all, but rather super excited to be back in the studio again. It did feel a little bit like coming home. I really enjoyed working with the Houston Life team of producers, including supervising producer Heather Kansteiner and Derrick Shore, the show's talented host, is such a pro! He made me look so good. Heather and I had some really good laughs looking at old footage and stories of me back in the day!"

After leaving KPRC in 2008, Rogers relished the chance to see old friends.

"Khambrel Marshall and I have kept in touch over the years, but seeing him in person brought back a flood of wonderful memories of us working together," she added.  "He remembers when I was pregnant with my son Nikhil and now he's graduating in May.  How time flies and he's for sure aging backwards!"

In case you missed it, "Houston Life" has been utilizing guest co-hosts since Courtney Zavala left Houston Life in early January 2023.  Zavala later issued this video.

Roseann Rogers aka The Buzz Lady for Bellaire City Council?

Miya Shay tells us that Roseann Rogers aka The Buzz Lady (former KPRC 2 and current KTBU 55) has filed to run for the Bellaire City Council, Position 3. She'll be running against attorney Corbett Parker.

Like Miya said, Rogers has been on the air in Houston in some form for a long time. She probably has this one in the bag.

'The Buzz Lady' Roseann Rogers checks in for K9s4COPs

Roseann Rogers aka 'The Buzz Lady' is now executive director of K9s4COPs which grants fully trained K9s to law enforcement agencies in 33 states across the country

 photo roseannrogersk94cops_zps6vfouv7k.jpg

It's been a couple of years since I've featured Roseann Rogers aka "The Buzz Lady" on the pages of this blog. That's all about to change today as she writes in to tell us about her new chapter. Soon we may be calling her "The K9 Lady!"

Mike,

Life is a journey and you just never know what direction it will take.

Since moving here in 1995, I have been truly fortunate to have had a very successful broadcasting career, as The Buzz Lady, covering what’s hot, hip and happening, then later moving on to becoming part of the management teams at KPRC and KTUBE. I have also had appearances on KHOU and KTRK. In fact, I was the first host to launch the informative and entertaining program, “Check this Out!” on Channel 13.

Broadcasting led me to business, where I’ve had the opportunity to work for the Finger Corporation (Finger Furniture), as the director of Marketing and Business Development, as well as the VP of Strategic Marketing and Development at the Houston Chronicle and the Director of PR and Business Development for John Daugherty, Realtors, where I still hold my real estate license.

For years, I have had a passion for philanthropic endeavors. I have co-chaired dozens of events for nonprofits, from luncheons to galas to fashion shows. (American Cancer Society, Nutcracker Market Preview Party, Trees of Hope, AIDS Foundation Houston, American Heart Association, Junior League of Houston) I’m also a founding board member of Dress for Success, Houston and was Co-Vice President for Trees of Hope. Three years ago, I was the auction chair for K9s4COPs’ annual event UNLEASHED.

photo roseannrogers_al_zpsargy2e4n.jpgFounder and Chairman Kristi Schiller and I have known each other for 20 years. First crossing paths in our broadcasting careers and then later chairing the Nutcracker Market Preview party together, and most recently being a part of the fundraising efforts for K9s4COPs. So when the opportunity presented itself to interview for the Executive Director position, I just simply had to go for it!! And, the rest is history. I started at K9s4COPs the first of the year and it’s been a great move and decision.

I truly believe in what we do everyday! Kristi and I are both moms of only children and we both feel there has ALWAYS been a calling for us to help the community in a big way! K9s4COPs does just that and together, we make one BIG dynamic duo! K9s4COPs grants fully trained K9s to law enforcement agencies in 33 states across the country and internationally in Paris, France. When we heard the Paris National Police lost their K9 Diesel in the line of duty during the Paris terrorist attacks we had to reach out and we did. In March, Kristi, myself and Harris County Sheriff Deputy Ted Dalhin, who our organization is the inspiration for after he lost his K9 in the line of duty, we traveled to NYC to deliver him to the French National Police so they could take him back to Paris. Since its inception, K9s granted by K9s4COPs have taken more than $135,000,000 with of contraband, cash and weapons off the streets. We’ve granted more than 130 K9s to agencies and schools and the numbers continue to increase. 2016 will be a record year for K9s4COPs, granting more K9s then ever before.

Since joining K9s4COPs, I’ve launched and developed new fundraising endeavors including the K$9 Challenge, where we challenge everyone to donate just $9 to help our cause. Using my marketing and business skills, I’ve increased our fundraising event revenue, expanded our reach with social media campaigns and produced two PSA ’s, currently in rotation throughout Texas and several states where we have granted K9s.

So, the next time you see me on TV I won’t be covering the story, rather I’ll be part of the K94COPs story on how we’re helping to keep our communities and schools safer one K9 at time!

Thank you for what you do.

Keep up the good work! I truly appreciate you wanting to know more about what I’m doing now.

I guess you can call me The K9 Lady!!

All the best,

Roseann

The Buzz Lady goes national

I told you last year how Roseann Rogers, the former Buzz Lady on KPRC 2, has a new home at Channel 55 KTBU The Tube. Now she is taking the Buzz nationally says Ken Hoffman:

She will provide entertainment, cooking and gossip features from Houston on the nationally syndicated Daily Buzz morning show. The show airs 6-9 a.m., starting Monday.

Rogers will pull double duty on Channel 55 — she's also the marketing manager.

The Daily Buzz boasts “news and weather with personality” and airs on 154 stations coast to coast. The show beams live from Central Florida with hosts Andy Campbell, Mitch English, Kia Malone and Holly Hannula. Each telecast has built-in holes for local features, like the ones Rogers will provide in Houston. READ THE REST

Houston media was out in force Sunday night at Tony's. It was to raise funds for the ESCAPE Family Resource Center at the 32nd Annual ESCAPE Celebrity Serve “Color My World” Benefit. ESCAPE is a non-profit that's mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect in the Houston area.

These TV and radio personalities joined folks from the worlds of sports, philanthropy, politics, business and space exploration by donning aprons and feather boas to be charitable celebrity servers.

Texas energy tycoon T. Boone Pickens served as CEO (Celebrity Executive Officer) at the event and directed the Houston celebrity servers who mingled with guests.

Some of the 30+ celebrities were:
- Astronauts Walt Cunningham and Gene Cernan
- Newly named KHOU-TV Sports Anchor Bob Allen

Tony’s stunning interior design was a canvas of balloon-laden tables bursting in primary colors. The room’s centerpiece was an impressive four-foot tall balloon sculpture on the table of Texas energy tycoon T. Boone Pickens, special guest of dear friends Schnitzer Levy and her husband, Irvin.

The party crowd included: ESCAPE Board Chair Dennis Price and wife Vicki, Irvin Levy, Evelyn Franklin, Faith and Lee Majors, Hon. Bonnie Crane Hellums and her husband, former Houston Oiler Carel Stith, Louise and Dr. Denton Cooley, Hon. Meca Walker, Commissioner R. Jack Cagle, Erica and Charles Harris, Regina Rogers, KTRH Radio Anchor Shara Fryer and husband, Barry Silverman, Marjorie Evans, Shantel and David Ferdman, Dene Hofheinz Anton, Celebrity Chair and ESCAPE Board Member Kim Padgett, Susan and David Morris, Clemencia and Jordan Larimore and ESCAPE CEO Lidya K. Crime Stoppers of Houston Gala focuses on 50 years of Dave Ward

The Honorable Mayor Sylvester Turner was honored at the 2016 Celebrating History in the Making Crime Stoppers of Houston Gala on Thursday, October 27th at the Hyatt Regency for his outstanding contributions to public safety in his years as a member of the Texas House of Representatives to his current position as Mayor of the City of Houston.

The focus of the evening was Celebrating History in the Making - the history Crime Stoppers of Houston is making with the construction of the first-ever Crime Stoppers headquarters anywhere in the world, the history the building's namesake, Guinness World Record holder Dave Ward, will be making when he celebrates 50 years at ABC - 13 Eyewitness News just a few days following the gala, along with special guests who are also making history.

The annual gala, which serves as the organization's largest fundraiser, welcomed more than 500 guests from all industries and raised more than $435,000 for Crime Stoppers' Tip Line and crime prevention programs, which for over three decades have empowered, educated, and engaged the community in important conversations about crime, public safety and the protection of society's most vulnerable citizens.

The evening began with a VIP reception with keynote speaker, Senior Investigative Reporter with the Boston Globe Spotlight Team, Michael Rezendes. His incredible investigative work led him to sharing a Pulitzer Prize in 2003. Rezendes' real-life work was the basis for the 2015 award-winning movie, "Spotlight", in which his character was played by Mark Ruffalo. "Spotlight" won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Screenplay. VIP guests were able to mingle with Rezendes and then participated in the silent auction to support Crime Stoppers' mission. Guests were also invited to place their bids during the live auction. Items included a Taft McWhorter 60" x 40" Texas Flag "Live" painting, a trip to the pleasures and treasures of Tuscany, and all that glitters with 18kt gold Italian earrings with sapphire and diamonds from Wayne Smith Jewels.

Festivities kicked off in the Imperial Ballroom with a special opening performance by The Salvation Army Harbor Light Choir of Put a Little Love in Your Heart, followed by a warm welcome and moment of silence with emcee Jan Carson, Houston Lifestyle and Homes Editor and Columnist. Jan shared that for the first time tonight, Houstonians could be a part of this history by purchasing a brick paver that would forever sit on this Public Safety and Crime Prevention Block in Midtown.

Crime Stoppers Executive Director Rania Mankarious then took the stage to continue the celebration and share that the organization's new home in Midtown is expected to open in January 2017.

"Our new facility is the result of 35 years of study and is constructed to meet the needs of our growing community." said Mankarious "It will firmly and proudly stand as our city's HUB for everything related to crime prevention and public safety. It will be a place where current, cutting edge education can be given out and community partners can gather to focus on solutions. Not competition, not working in siloes, but expanding the proven power of our programming that makes Houston a safer place to live. We are so thankful to everyone who has helped get us here."

Remarks followed from Gala coordinator and visionary Laura Ward, and friends of Crime Stoppers Tilman Fertitta and Jan Carson who both spoke about Dave Ward's contributions to this 36 year old organization and in his incredible news career.

Before the night concluded, a very special friend of Ward - NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly - delivered a heartfelt message onstage in his honor. A surprise tribute video was played to introduce both Astronaut Kelly and the Dave Ward who followed by taking the stage to reveal that his final date on the anchor desk would be December 9, 2016.

Thursday's celebration was supported by many individuals, community partners and generous underwriters, including Houston First, The Lester and Sue Smith Foundation, Cabrina and Steven Owsley, Becker Family Foundation, Valerie and Bob Brindley/Integrity Partners, CenterPoint Energy, Paula Goldstein, Harris County Sheriff's Office Foundation, Michelle Heinz, P&R Productions, Strake Foundation, Jill and Charles Talisman, Laura and Dave Ward, plus many others.

Guests included Tilman Fertitta, Scott Kelly, Amiko Kauderer, Tim Connelly, Trish and Rock Morille, Jan Duncan, Carol and Dr. Tom Sawyer, Edna Meyer-Nelson, Elva and Truett Akin, Shayna Andrews, Neil and Maria Bush and Vicki Rizzo.

Notable elected officials included Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson, Harris County Commissioner Jack Cagle, Senator John Whitmire, State Representative Gene Wu, City Council Member Brenda Stardig and Houston Police Acting Chief Martha Montalvo.

Others celebrating with Crime Stoppers included Tama Lunquist and Gary Becker, Tena and Tyson Faust, Joella and Steve Mach, Ellen and Paige Cokinos, Laurie and Tracy Krohn, Roula Christie and Tasos Kostas, Michele Strake, Jennifer Reyna, Franco Valobra, Roseann Rogers and Aashish Shah, Leisa Holland-Nelson, Paul-David Van Atta, Sherri Zucker, Joann and Bill Crassas, Elizabeth and Tom Netting, Daryl Price, Dale Lockett, Farida Abjani, Stephanie Von Stein, and Melissa Rascon.

Mike McGuff gets called out by future city council member

Don't look to me for picks on political winners. I made the prediction that Roseann Rogers aka The Buzz Lady (former KPRC 2 and current KTBU 55) had a great shot at winning the race for Bellaire City Council, Position 3.

With her years on Houston television, I figured she had good name ID and a leg up on her competitor Corbett Parker. Boy was I wrong. Parker got almost 72% of the vote in last Saturday's runoff.

In a funny tweet to me Parker wrote:

@CorbettParker @mikemcguff Luv blog and sic'em Bears but Roseann didn't have it in bag. Leave politics to @miyashay. Thx 4 motivation in http://tiny.cc/LP1XO

You know Corbett, I will and congrats on the big win. I will also leave the Christmas tree decorating advice up to Miya Shay too. Hey Corbett, can you get me out of a ticket if I get nailed for going 1 mph over in Bellaire?

“Hard Hats and Heels” is the theme for ESCAPE Family Resource Center’s 35th Annual Celebrity Serve Benefit dinner and auction, which will take place at the award-winning Tony's Restaurant on Sunday, April 10, 2016.

This popular fundraiser has been chaired by Joan Schnitzer Levy and Gerald Franklin for more than 30 years. It features local and national celebrities, who entertain, dine and mingle with guests to raise funds needed to help prevent child abuse and neglect in the Greater Houston community. Guests will be dazzled with an amazing live auction, limited edition raffles, fun games and more.

There is so much to celebrate at ESCAPE. Leadership, staff, volunteers and supporters of the agency are donning their “HARD HATS” and kicking up their “HEELS” with excitement over a new building ESCAPE has purchased and is renovating in Midtown. The facility will become a central hub for education and support for parents and professionals in the Greater Houston area and beyond, allowing ESCAPE to dramatically expand much needed programs and access to them.

Building a healthy and confident family starts with creating a strong foundation, and having the right tools to achieve this is an essential part of the blueprint for success. ESCAPE Family Resource Center’s child abuse prevention and parenting programs provide services in at-risk communities – to the families that need them the most – and involve the entire family in the learning process. ESCAPE is the only organization of its kind in Houston, educating parents and children in the prevention of child abuse. Classes are taught in English and Spanish, in more than 80 locations in the Greater Houston area.

You can help ESCAPE construct happy homes in Houston and break the cycle of abuse by making plans to sponsor a table at this memorable event. For more information about becoming a sponsor or donating an item for our auction, please contact Sandi Mercado, Director of Development and Communications, smercado@learntoparent.org or by calling (713) 942-9500, ext.

This year's special guest is Lee Majors! Actor Lee Majors a Television and Film Icon with a career spanning 54 years starring in TV roles such as The Big Valley, The Six Million Dollar Man and The Fall Guy. Lee is still busy working in film and television.
In 2015 he appeared and starred in two feature films Do You Believe and Almosting It. Lee recently wrapped up filming Season 2 of Ash Vs Evil Dead for the Starz Channel which will premier October 2016.
