Mark Rowlett announced on-air on August 29, 2025, that it would be his last night as the Big Country chief meteorologist for KTXS News 12 Abilene:
"This is my last day here at KTXS. Sixteen years ago, I was fortunate enough to be asked to move to Abilene and become the chief meteorologist at KTXS.
I've really enjoyed my time here and I hope I was able to help you.
After 43 years in television, it's time to take a break. I wish you all the best, and I thank you sincerely for watching here on KTXS."
Rowlett has been with KTXS since August 2009, having arrived from KTBS 3 in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he worked for 11 years.
He previously worked for KETK Tyler as the station's first chief meteorologist, KLFY News 10 in Lafayette as a weekend/morning meteorologist, and KBTX 3 in Bryan-College Station.
In addition to television weather, a Texas A&M University graduate earned a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of Texas at Tyler and taught geography courses at LSU Shreveport for three years.
In 2012, Rowlett made an appearance in the Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen film "Guilt Trip."
After nearly 30 years, KLTV 7 Tyler's Longview Bureau chief Bob Hallmark retired on August 21, 2025.
In fact, Gregg County Judge Bill Stoud declared the date as Bob Hallmark Day.
Raised in Aldine, Texas, he joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 before attending Chapman University in California. Before settling in East Texas, he worked as network director for the Houston Astros, network producer for the Houston Aeros, and at radio and television stations in Boise, Idaho.
However, Hallmark’s career in television began almost by accident.
“I was working for Major League Baseball when a guy came up to me from Fox Southwest, which was cable at that time," Hallmark remembered. "And, he said, ‘We need somebody to shoot a football game for us.’ I said, ‘I don’t know how to do that. I’ve never used a camera in my life.’ And, he said, ‘Give me five minutes.’ And, that’s how it started. That’s how I got into television. I got a five-minute lesson on a camera, and the next thing you know, I’m working at television stations."
That journey led him to KLTV in 1998, where he started as a morning show producer.
“The first day on the job, they actually introduced me, ‘Oh, by the way, here’s your anchor, Joan Hallmark.’ I went, ‘Oh, Hallmark? Really?” he said.
It turns out, after some investigation, Hallmark learned that he and Joan’s husband were distant cousins.
In 2000, Bob briefly left KLTV to return to radio, but returned to KLTV as a Longview newsroom reporter.
News Director Kenny Boles encouraged Hallmark to loosen up on the air. Once he did, strangers approached him as if he were an old friend, which led him to weave humor into some of his reports.
As technology evolved with smaller cameras, Hallmark embraced it, often shooting and producing stories by himself.
Though stepping away from the daily grind, Hallmark has agreed to contribute the occasional story. Mostly, he’s looking forward to spending more time with his wife and enjoying life on their farm.
DALLAS and ATLANTA, Aug. 28, 2025 -- Victory+ and Gray Media are partnering to simulcast 17 Dallas Stars NHL games for fans in 15 television markets across Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana, providing more options to access the team’s action in key outer markets. This new package ensures that passionate hockey fans outside of Texas major metropolitan areas have additional opportunities to watch the Stars during the 2025-26 season.
The broadcasts will serve the following Gray television markets:
Texas:Amarillo, Lubbock, Wichita Falls, Sherman-Ada, Tyler-Longview, Waco-Bryan-College Station, Odessa, Laredo
Arkansas: Jonesboro
Louisiana: Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, Monroe, New Orleans, Shreveport
These 17 games will include a mix of regular-season and pre-season matchups, bringing high-quality hockey content to fans. The game schedule will be announced at a later date. This effort builds on the Victory+ commitment to expanding access to premium sports content.
“Our commitment to reducing barriers and reaching more fans in communities is at the core of our work and this deal with Gray Media allows us to further that commitment,” said Neil Gruninger, President & CEO of APMC, parent company of Victory+. “These additional games give fans more ways to follow the Stars and be part of the excitement this season.”
“We are excited to partner with Victory+ to bring these games free, over-the-air to fans across Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana,” said Collin Gaston, Senior Managing Vice President for Gray Media. “These stations have been bringing fans live NBA, WNBA, and MLB action, and we know viewers will love also having the NHL’s Stars.”
This new agreement will ensure fans can watch games on Victory+ and beyond while reinforcing its mission to make Dallas Stars games accessible to as many fans as possible, offering convenient viewing options across Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
Welcome to the new chapter in local television stations as Nexstar Media Group kicks off its bid to buy TEGNA Inc.
Anyone hear the 1990s calling when another Texas-based broadcasting company started buying up its rivals? Replace Irving-based TV owner Nexstar with San Antonio-headquartered radio owner Clear Channel Communications, and the saying "history never repeats itself, but it rhymes" makes a great station ID.
If the deal first reported by the Wall Street Journal weeks ago actually goes through, the biggest TV ownership creation in history will need the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to lift the 39% cap on how many stations one company can own of all US TV households.
TV station owners have been eager to get that cap upped in recent years due to lower ratings and rising competition from digital streamers and YouTube.
And if this deal doesn't happen, Sinclair already expressed interest in TEGNA a day before the Nexstar announcement.
Now with that out of the way, since I write a Texas media blog, let's focus on the Lone Star State.
Nexstar already has quite the portfolio of Texas markets in its home state, and with the TEGNA deal, it will now add the following DMAs and stations to its holdings:
KENS 5 San Antonio

There might be more stations in one market than you even imagined when you merge the two large station owners.
I am no FCC TV merging expert, but I can't imagine this list will be the final one when the transaction is expected to close by the second half of 2026. Does this mean more swapping with another company, depending on how much the FCC increases station ownership limits?
And that's wild to me that Nexstar could own both top-rated KXAN and KVUE. The company already owns two top-affiliated stations in smaller Texas markets, but not in a market the size of Austin.
But what will happen with CW33 and CW39 buying the former BELO stations WFAA 8 DFW and KHOU 11 Houston? Forget a duopoly, this would be a triopoly (more than that in other markets)!
“Nexstar has a stellar long-term record of growth through its deals, having completed many well-received transactions since 2011, including the 2019 acquisition of Tribune Media," Nexstar’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Perry A. Sook said in the deal's press release. "The playbook we followed to make those transactions successful – improving and increasing local content, executing on identified synergies, and quickly de-leveraging our balance sheet with free cash flow post close – are the same opportunities and strategies we will use in connection with this transaction. With committed financing and a plan for significant synergy realization, we believe the combined entity will be poised for growth, leverage reduction, and the enhancement of shareholder value.”
From what I observed in the Tribune takeover, Nexstar came in and replaced the top management of its new station. Let's take Houston, for example. I cannot imagine that the managers of KIAH will take over KHOU. While anything is possible in broadcasting, taking a low-rated CW station's leadership and putting those people in charge of a former crown jewel of the BELO world seems far-fetched. Stay tuned.
Based on my thinking and others I have been talking to over the last few weeks, we believe 39 will be merged into 11. If there are open positions at KHOU, then some KIAH people could move over, as Nexstar will most likely cut any redundant jobs.
Will the newly rebranded CW39 morning newscast be cancelled? I'm going out on a limb here, but could the new KHOU 7 to 9am newscast show also be broadcast on channel 39 at the same time?
And I can't imagine anyone disagreeing that the ABC13 newscast on 39 at 9 will be replaced by a KHOU-produced newscast once the KTRK contract ends.
Here is something else to ponder.
Naturally, the combined Houston stations will be under one roof. But what about this scenario? CW39 moves over to 5718 Westheimer at the newish KHOU studios. Makes sense, but let's think about this deeper. KHOU surely rents its two floors in this Class A office tower in the expensive Galleria area. According to the Harris Central Appraisal District (HCAD), Nexstar owns the KIAH studios at 7700 Westpark Drive. The old 39 building is not large enough to handle KHOU right now. What if Nexstar tears down those KIAH studios Paul Boesch made famous and builds a brand new operations center for 11, 39, and 55 in its place right on the edge of Houston's Mahatma Gandhi District?
We'll see if anything I wrote here has any chance of actually coming true. I'm guessing, like anyone else, at this point.
Nasya Mancini leaves KFOX14 EL Paso for KSNV News 3 Las Vegas in August 2025.
Here is what Mancini posted on social:
"Over the past three years in El Paso, I’ve told some unforgettable stories and met some amazing people—it’s been such an honor. Thank you, El Paso, for welcoming me into your homes.
Now it’s time for the next chapter! I’m heading back to my home state of Nevada to join the News3 Las Vegas team!
I’m beyond excited for this new adventure and to continue doing what I love, closer to home."
Mancini was ARC El Paso Host/anchor for the 10AM and Noon newscasts.
It also appears she and former KFOX sports director James King have also recently gotten engaged.
Mancini joined KFOX/CBS4 in 2022 and worked her way up from multi-media journalist (MMJ) to weekend weather/fill-in anchor to weathercaster/weekday evenings and to anchor/ARC El Paso host.
A graduate of Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, Mancini earned her Bachelor of Science in Media Studies with an emphasis in Multimedia Journalism in December 2021. While at DSU, she anchored and wrote for the Dixie Sun News. She later completed her Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Certificate from Mississippi State University in 2023.
Beyond the newsroom, Mancini has a history in the pageant world. She represented Nevada at the Miss America competition in 2019 and 2020, where she placed in the Top 5 for the Social Impact Initiative Scholarship. She also earned the Miss America Foundation’s Community Service Award and the CMN Hospital Miracle Maker Award.

(NYSE: TEGNA) (“TEGNA”) announced today that they entered into a definitive agreement (the “Agreement”) whereby, subject to regulatory approvals, Nexstar will acquire all outstanding shares of TEGNA for $22.00 per share in a cash transaction valued at $6.2 billion, inclusive of TEGNA’s net debt and estimated transaction fees and expenses.

Nexstar will now own multiple TV stations in Houston, DFW, Austin, and more...)
The purchase price represents a 31% premium to TEGNA’s average 30-day average stock price ending August 8, 2025, the last closing stock price prior to media reports of a potential transaction. Following completion of the transaction, the combined entity will be a leading local media company, well-positioned to compete in today’s fragmented and rapidly evolving marketplace. The new company will be better able to serve communities by ensuring the long-term vitality of local news and programming from trusted local sources and preserving the diversity of local voice and opinion. Nexstar will also be able to provide advertisers with an even greater variety of competitive local and national broadcast and digital advertising solutions to serve brands and consumers more effectively.
Nexstar’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Perry A. Sook, commented, “The initiatives being pursued by the Trump administration offer local broadcasters the opportunity to expand reach, level the playing field, and compete more effectively with the Big Tech and legacy Big Media companies that have unchecked reach and vast financial resources. We believe TEGNA represents the best option for Nexstar to act on this opportunity. TEGNA is a premier operator with high quality local television stations primarily in the top 75 DMAs. We and TEGNA are similarly dedicated to providing communities of all sizes with the best programming and fact-based local journalism along with innovative digital products and marketing solutions for local viewers and advertisers. The transaction will increase Nexstar’s reach through the expansion of our presence in important DMAs such as Atlanta, Phoenix, Seattle, and Minneapolis, as well as enhance our local presence, enabling us to continue to provide the core local news and programming that is in the public’s interest.”
Mr. Sook continued, “Nexstar has a stellar long-term record of growth through its deals, having completed many well-received transactions since 2011, including the 2019 acquisition of Tribune Media. The playbook we followed to make those transactions successful – improving and increasing local content, executing on identified synergies, and quickly de-leveraging our balance sheet with free cash flow post close – are the same opportunities and strategies we will use in connection with this transaction. With committed financing and a plan for significant synergy realization, we believe the combined entity will be poised for growth, leverage reduction, and the enhancement of shareholder value.”
Howard Elias, Chairman of TEGNA’s Board of Directors commented, “At TEGNA, we share Nexstar’s commitment to local broadcasting, exemplified by numerous investments and initiatives, industry journalism awards, and the significant expansion of our local news content. This transaction, which will provide premium near-term value to TEGNA shareholders, comes at a time of rapid change in our industry and reflects the fact that policymakers of all perspectives are calling for regulations governing our industry to be modernized. This transaction with Nexstar will further solidify the critical role our stations serve in our communities, preserve their trust, and be better able to compete in today’s highly fragmented media environment.”
Mike Steib, Chief Executive Officer of TEGNA, said, “We are thrilled to have found a partner in Nexstar that will enable TEGNA’s stations to continue doing what we do best: creating outstanding and impactful local content coupled with the delivery of indispensable digital products to the communities we serve around the country. Nexstar and TEGNA both share a rich heritage of commitment to journalistic excellence and technological advancements. Together, we will expand news coverage to serve more communities, across more screens, and ultimately secure the future of local news for generations to come.”
Transaction Details
TEGNA purchase price of $22.00 per share, reflects a 31% premium to TEGNA’s unaffected 30-day average stock price ending August 8, 2025.
Transaction has been unanimously approved by TEGNA’s Board of Directors.
TEGNA debt will be refinanced and/or assumed at close.
Committed financing in place from BofA Securities, P. Morgan Chase N.A., and Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC to finance the transaction.
Transaction Highlights
Combines two best-in-class television broadcast companies which share an unwavering commitment to localism, innovation, and superior, trustworthy programming.
Increases operational and geographic diversity and scale. Upon closing, Nexstar, together with its partners, will have 265 full-power television stations in 44 states and the District of Columbia and 132 of the country’s 210 television DMAs. The combined company will have stations in 9 of the top 10 DMAs, 41 of the top 50 DMAs, 62 of the top 75 DMAs and 82 of the top 100 DMAs, covering, in total, 80% of U.S. television households.
Enhances presence in local DMAs. Nexstar’s station footprint overlaps with TEGNA in 35 of TEGNA’s 51 DMAs, providing improved synergy potential in these markets.
Extends footprint to additional contested election DMAs. The addition of strong Big-4 affiliates in key contested election DMAs, such as Phoenix, AZ, Atlanta, GA, Toledo, OH, and Portland, ME, will enhance the political advertising outlook for Nexstar in even-numbered years.
Financial Summary and Outlook
On a combined basis for the last eight quarters annualized ending June 30, 2025, Nexstar, together with TEGNA, would have combined net revenue (excluding synergies) of $8.10 billion and combined Adjusted EBITDA (excluding synergies) before stock-based compensation of $2.56 billion.
Based on our estimates for 2025, Nexstar expects to generate annual net synergies of approximately $300 million from a combination of revenue synergies and net operating expense reductions.
Together, the Adjusted Free Cash Flow of TEGNA, the expected synergies on an after-tax basis and the estimated after-tax financing costs related to the transaction, is expected to be more than 40% accretive to Nexstar’s standalone Adjusted Free Cash Flow in the first twelve months after closing.
After giving effect to the transaction, the incurrence of transaction-related debt, transaction expenses, and expected synergies, Nexstar expects its net leverage ratio to be approximately 4x at closing with de-leveraging to current leverage levels in 2028. As of June 30, 2025, Nexstar’s total net leverage ratio was 3.19x.
Consistent with past transactions, Nexstar initially intends to allocate excess free cash flow to repay debt.
Timing and Approvals
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including TEGNA shareholder and regulatory approvals.
The transaction is expected to close by the second half of 2026.

"Thank you, West Texas.
Just wanted to share a few thoughts and gratitude as I prepare to say goodbye to NewsWest 9 and all the amazing viewers who tune in every night to watch.
For the last 4 years, I can truly say I lived out my dream. Bringing you the latest in the community every night at 5 and 10 was beyond special, and I’ll forever be grateful for it.
None of this could have ever been possible without God, my family, friends, co-workers and every single person who supported me along the way.
We’ve all heard stories of people getting doubted or no one believing in them, but I’ve been blessed to say that it’s been the complete opposite in my life. I’ve had nothing but positivity and blessings all around.
I started this journey as a weekend sports anchor, and every single opportunity was the culmination of the wonderful folks who invested in me!
You’ve helped our station share stories of hope, kindness, opportunity, and adversity, and strived to keep the community safe and informed.
Thank you to the incredible, loving and loyal viewers who take time out of their day to watch every night and work tirelessly to showcase how wonderful the Permian Basin community is.
Thank you for your continued love and words of affirmation. I’ll miss all the invitations to community events, volunteering for change and saying hello to you while out and about!
West Texas will always hold a special place in my heart and I will never forget how you treated a guy from New Jersey with pure love and respect."
Cammarata served as an evening anchor for NewsWest 9 KWES since August 22, 2022. He first joined the station in August 2021 as a sports reporter/anchor, spending a year covering local athletics before making the move to the PM news desk.
A graduate of the University of Scranton, Cammarata previously worked at the New York Post as an associate producer for sports podcasts and provided play-by-play coverage for WUSR radio.
Clemente Morales is leaving his Abilene Today meteorologist/anchor position with KRBC and KTAB Abilene as of August 2025.
"As I wrap up my final shows here at the station, I never forget about what success I’ve had and how I attribute that to the people that put us on TV every day," Morales posted. "Heather Easley is a wonderful coanchor to have but even she will tell you that what makes it all happen is our production crew. Today I feel very special to have worked with Stephen, Kaitlyn, Caden, Desiree, and Tim. You guys are the best and thanks for always giving it your very best. You are appreciated. Thanks for the card, the gift, but most of all for the wonderful memories!"
Weekend meteorologist Carter Vandrasik takes over next to Easley on Abilene Today at 6 AM and then again on Abilene Midday at 11:30.
Morales's career in broadcasting began in 1985. While pursuing a nursing degree, Clemente took a part-time job at KRBC answering phones in the evenings. It didn’t take long for his interest in television to take root, and soon, he found himself learning every corner of the newsroom.
Over the years, Clemente wore many hats—News Photographer, Reporter, Assignment Editor, Commercial Production Videographer—before finding his true calling in weather.
Morales was born in Hamlin and raised in Abilene for most of his life, and is a Cooper High School graduate who attended Hardin-Simmons University.
Excellence in Innovation A Hanging on Backbone Creek: Unraveling Texas' antiquated death investigations KXAN Austin, TX
The mysterious death of 13-year-old Daynon Lewis haunts the town of Marble Falls, TX, nearly 60 years after her body was discovered hanging in a shed behind her family’s home. Quickly ruled an accidental strangulation by a local justice of the peace, questions linger about this case and others nearby. KXAN’s reporting exposed an antiquated process still used in most Texas counties that gives certain elected officials the power to determine cause and manner of death with scant training and often without autopsies or forensic expertise.
During KXAN’s reporting, Texas lawmakers resumed their efforts to modernize this dubious system and initiated a fresh review of Miss Lewis’s case.
“The national Edward R. Murrow award won by KXAN-TV highlights the work of our journalists across the company and their commitment to innovation in storytelling, trusted broadcast journalism, exceptional public service, and community involvement,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “We are honored and grateful to the RTDNA for recognizing KXAN-TV.”
