KPRC 2 Houston has new weekend morning programming, and my readers are asking me about the newscast schedule.

In the new weekend morning schedule, KPRC 2's 6 to 7am newscasts are replaced by children's programming.
Channel 2 tells me the new weekend morning lineup launched on July 4, 2026. However, viewers may not have seen it consistently because NBC's July sports and special event schedule has preempted portions of KPRC's weekend morning newscasts.
On the affected Saturdays, KPRC's local morning news has remained available on KPRC 2+ (and streaming), while Sunday's newscasts have generally aired as scheduled on KPRC, except during NBC's coverage of The Open Championship on July 19. So watch out for that.
The July 2026 schedule includes:
July 4: NBC's Sail 4th 250 (6 a.m.–12 p.m.) preempted Saturday morning news on KPRC. The newscast aired on KPRC 2+. Sunday morning newscast aired as scheduled on KPRC and KPRC2+.
July 11: NBC's Tour de France coverage (7–11 a.m.) preempted Saturday morning news on KPRC. The newscast aired on KPRC 2+. Sunday morning newscasts aired as scheduled on KPRC and KPRC2+.
July 18–19: NBC's coverage of The Open Championship (Saturday 6 a.m.–2 p.m.; Sunday 6 a.m.–1 p.m.) will preempt portions of our weekend morning news. Local newscasts will be available on KPRC 2+.
July 25: NBC's Tour de France coverage (7–11 a.m.) will again move Saturday morning news to KPRC 2+. Sunday's newscast will air as scheduled on KPRC and KPRC2+.
Beginning in August, viewers should expect a much more consistent weekend morning schedule on KPRC 2 as NBC's special sports programming concludes.
