KIII-TV, a TEGNA company, announced today that Leslie Adami is joining the consistently top-rated news team in South Texas as co-anchor of 3News at 5pm with Rudy Treviño, and 3News at 6 and 10pm weeknights with Joe Gazin.
Adami joins KIII from KVUE, TEGNA’s ABC affiliate in Austin, where she has been a morning reporter and fill-in-anchor for KVUE Daybreak and KVUE Weekend Daybreak. Before joining KVUE, Adami was the weekday morning anchor for KLBK (CBS) News in Lubbock.

KIII’s Joe Gazin, after more than 50 years as a leader in broadcasting, has announced today that effective May 28th, 2021, he will be retiring from the Channel 3 newsroom.
Over the years, Joe Gazin has been a beacon of light during times of crisis and a voice of truth in troubling times. Whether covering some of the most dominant stories of the day, such as the major hurricanes starting with Hurricane Allen in 1980, the death of Selena, or even through some of the more recent impacts of COVID-19 and winter storms, Joe Gazin has been the calm voice of reason when we have needed it most.
"Joe's legacy at 3NEWS will be that of consistency...someone that was always known and trusted to bring you the news of the day, or the moment," said fellow anchor and reporter Rudy Treviño. "To have this kind of dedication, to work in one market for 43 years is an amazing feat."
As part of his role in supporting the coastal bend, Joe Gazin regularly participates in charitable events benefiting such local non-profits as Driscoll Children's Hospital, the Coastal Bend Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, and the Special Olympics.
When asked about his impact on the community, Richard Harris of Driscoll Children's Hospital stated, "He's been part of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon and Driscoll Children's Hospital since day 1. We would raise funds all night, and Joe was with us every step of the way."
Harris added, “To that end, through Joe's tireless efforts, KIII has helped raise $14 million dollars for the hospital and Children's Miracle Network. As we move into the annual Miracle Month of May for Driscoll Children's hospital, it's impossible to state how much Joe Gazin and KIII's efforts continue to benefit those in need.”
When asked about his career, Joe shared, "I consider myself extremely fortunate. It's been a wild ride...I've got the highest regard for management, and the people I work with. I've flown with the Blue Angels, interviewed several presidents, and had a front row seat for the major local events of our time."
For as much as Joe has done in the community, he’s done just as much for his family – both at work and at home. Bruce Cummings, vice president, TEGNA media operations and president/general manager of KIII had this to say:
“Spanning more than four decades in the Coastal Bend, Joe has been a driving force of not only critically important local news, but community goodwill and meaningful outreach as well. He has meant so much to me, the KIII 3NEWS family, and to so many more all across South Texas. Joe’s distinguished track record of impact, connecting with people, and of ‘making a difference’ is one that most likely will never be matched. If you are looking for a champion not only in the business of journalism, but also with serving the greater good of our community, you never need look any further than Joe Gazin.”
When asked about why he felt it was time to retire, Joe said, "You can feel when it's right, and it's certainly right at this point." Asked about what he’s doing next, he added, "The sky's the limit...I can do as much as I have the energy to do."
ABOUT JOE GAZIN
Starting out from the University of Southern California campus radio and moving on to KABC radio in Los Angeles, Joe Gazin was one of the pioneers in talk radio shows, having his own 4-hour program sandwiched between then-mayor Tom Bradley and Regis Philbin. After deciding to enter the world of television in 1975, he briefly worked in stations in Wausau and Madison, Wisconsin before deciding to 'ditch the cold' in 1977 for the warmer climate of Corpus Christi, where he has worked for KIII for 43 years.
During his time with KIII, Joe Gazin has won several Associated Press awards (Best Story, Best Newscast) and numerous community accolades for public service and fundraising. He also covered stories internationally, most notably from Cuba, China, Colombia, Panama and Mexico.
Joe has been married to his wife Amy for more than 20 years and has four children - three adults who are excelling in their own careers, and one still at home. Joe's plans for the future include him continuing to helm his own production company, where he works with his daughter Melissa.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas. (January 2, 2020) – KIII-TV, a TEGNA company, announced today Barbi Leo is joining the consistently top-rated morning news team in South Texas as co-anchor of 3News First Edition with John-Thomas Kobos and Meteorologist, Alan Holt.
"We know people across South Texas have been eagerly awaiting news of Barbi's next move since she announced she would be leaving KSAB Radio after 21 years," Nia Towne, KIII News Director, said. "We are thrilled to let everyone know Barbi will still be there to help them get a jump start to their day and that she will be doing it with KIII 3News."
"We have shared special moments, laughs, tears and every emotion in between on air and off. Thank you so much for your trust. I appreciate you being with me every step of the way. Thank you for helping me grow into the career mom I am today. Thank you for your advice and for always treating me like family," Leo told her fans as she signed off from KSAB for the last time on Dec. 31.
The move is not as dramatic as some might think. Leo is no stranger to KIII's viewers. She has been a part of the 3News family for the last 14 years as the co-host of Domingo Live.
"Barbi is bold and authentic, people see that and are drawn to her," Towne said.
“I am ecstatic about joining KIII. It feels like home. I am looking forward to starting my day with the community that has embraced me with open arms and that I have come to know and love,” Leo said.
"We’re thrilled to have Barbi joining the KIII-TV First Edition team," Bruce Cummings, Vice President of TEGNA Media and President-General Manager of KIII, said. "For fourteen years, viewers of the Domingo Live show have come to know her as smart, engaging, and passionate about her love for the people and places of South Texas. Bill Vessey has said "Adios, Amigos" as he retires from the chief meteorologist role at KIII Corpus Christi after being with the station since 1992. Normally, the popular met opens his weathercasts with "Hola Amigos."
According to 3News, Vessey was born in the Bronx but did like many others have and got to Texas as soon as he could.
Growing up in Kingsville, TX, he graduated from Texas A&M University Kingsville with a journalism degree and later worked in radio there.
Vessey starts his television career
TV news came calling and so did Corpus Christi. Vessey joined KIII in 1978 as a reporter and assignments editor.
Then it was off to San Antonio radio.
"One of my goals was always to work at KTSA (550 AM) and was up there for in the early 80s," Vessey told KIII anchor Joe Gazin on television.
Vessey eventually returned to Corpus where he worked for KRIS as a sports director from 1985 to 1990 according to Fandom. As the cruel TV news business goes, he was fired according to Gazin's report and ended up working as an announcer at the Corpus Christi Greyhound racetrack.
Vessey returns to KIII
The former KRIS sports director, wrote a letter to his friend Joe Gazin at KIII and the news managers at the time. He got a call back.
"And I remember the news director saying, 'well, come on, we need somebody to do weather during Good Morning America on Monday and Tuesday morning. You interested,'" Vessey told Gazin on TV. "I said, 'I've never done weather.' 'Oh, you've been on TV, you can do it.' So I went in for a screen test. I stunk. I was bad, with a capital B. Got a call the next day, 'you're hired.'"
That role led to his morning weather gig on 3 News First Edition with Regina Garcia and his daily opening phrase, "Buenos dias, amigos!"
"Hola Amigos!" became the new phrase once Vessey was promoted to the evening newscasts and his chief meteorologist title for the last ten years.
The multiple Texas Associated Press Award winner also has as an Adjunct Professor of Meteorology for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
"Whether it be a tornado or straight line winds or bad or hurricanes or that stuff," former KIII and abc13 KTRK news director Richard Longoria told Gazin in the TV news report. "Bill is the master at being able to interpret our weather and to then pass that interpretation, that knowledge, on to the audience in a way that is just astounding."
Mike Gillaspia has been named as the KIII 3NEWS Corpus Christi permanent weekday evening anchor for the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts alongside Leslie Adami.
"To be asked to fill this role at a legacy station like KIII is beyond compare for me," Gillaspia said. "I am humbled by the confidence placed in me by TEGNA and KIII and am grateful that I can continue serving a community that I have called home since 2005. This part of Texas is filled with people I love, and people who have shown me great love in return.
"During my time here, I have both enjoyed and benefitted from working with such a talented and professional team," he said. "The chemistry and confidence I feel sitting alongside Leslie Adami each evening is something I appreciate. With her, Alan Holt, and Chris Thomasson, I know that viewers see what I see: they are among the absolute best at what they do."
Gillaspia steps into the role previously held by longtime anchor Rudy Treviño, who transitioned to a part-time anchor position in January 2025 and continues to host Domingo Live on Sundays.
A familiar face to Coastal Bend viewers, Gillaspia has been a trusted journalist in the region for decades.
He joined KIII 3NEWS in 2020 after spending seven years as morning anchor for cross-town rival KRIS 6 from 2013 to 2020.
Before that, he anchored for NewsWest 9 KWES Midland from 2012 to 2013 and KZTV 10 Corpus Christi from 2007 to 2010. Gillaspia has anchored on all three major network stations in the area—KIII, KRIS, and KZTV.
Gillaspia, a Texas native raised in San Antonio, has earned accolades from the Associated Press and the Texas Association of Broadcasters for his work as an anchor.
"For 60 years, KIII has been home to journalists that the Coastal Bend knows and trusts," added KIII President and General Manager Rebecca Cantu. "We could not be happier that Mike Gillaspia will now continue that proud legacy."
"Mike understands what matters most to our viewers because he is part of this community," News Director Wes Wilson said. "His professionalism, warmth, and credibility have earned him the trust of our viewers, and I have no doubt he will continue to lead with integrity and excellence. We are thrilled to see him take on this expanded role."
With big managing jobs in his resume like KTRK abc13, 740 KTRH and KIII Corpus Christi, Richard Longoria is retiring
After nearly four decades in the TV biz, KIII Corpus Christi news director Richard Longoria is ready to hang up his press credentials.
"After nearly 38 years in the broadcast business and turning 68 this July, I have decided to take the retirement plunge with the blessing of my company and my station management," Longoria said in a statment to mikemcguff.com. "I have had the greatest time working for KIII-TV for the last 13 years with the greatest achievement of being consistently rated Number One in South Texas.”
Longoria is ending his TV career in the city where he grew up, but longtime Houstonians will also be familiar with his work.
After journalism and political jobs in places like Colorado, the University of Houston graduate took a reporting job at San Antonio's WOAI-AM in the late 70s. By the start of the 80s, he was the managing editor of 740 KTRH.
From there he started in TV at KTRK abc13. For the next 15 years, Longoria rose from assignment editor, to assignment manager, executive producer and finally news director.
After Houston, Longoria ran the newsroom of KUSI-TV San Diego for the next few years.
In 2003, he returned home to Corpus Christi's KIII where he's been ever since. As I posted the other day, he's done quite well there.

John-Thomas Kobos, Jane Monreal and meteorologist Kristine Diaz of KIII-TV3 in Corpus Christi are anchoring an expansion of the ABC affiliate's morning show to its digital .2 channel.
I am not sure of another TV station that is doing something like this. The main channel broadcasts the morning show from 5 to 7am with the new hour of First Edition on MeTV coming on from 7 to 8am on 3.2. As you can tell by the show's name, KIII's .2 is a MeTV station.
From what I can tell on Facebook, the show's topics are a little lighter than a standard newscast.
Jane Monreal
As I've written before, Kobos, who came to the station in 2011, has been a part of two newscast expansions which have doubled the amount of the station's morning news presence.
Houston viewers might note Kobos' name sounds familiar. That's because his dad is former KTRK 13 reporter and current assistant news director Don Kobos.
Another Houston note, Fox 26 morning meteorologist Caitilin Espinosa joined KRIV after working at KIII.
