Star Harvey joins FOX 11 Los Angeles

Star Harvey has left PIX11 WPIX New York City weekend mornings to be a meteorologist for FOX 11 Los Angeles KTTV.

If Harvey's name sounds familiar to a Houston TV news watcher, it's because she left CW39 Houston KIAH in April 2022 for the Big Apple Nexstar Media Group-owned station.

The Los Angeles native is reunited with former CW39 Houston chief meteorologist and colleague Adam Krueger at FOX Los Angeles.

"Now, here I am—standing on the other side of the dream," Harvey posted on Instagram. "I’ve made it back home, not just to Los Angeles, but to the station that inspired me as a little girl. I am grateful beyond words."

This got me thinking: If you want to work in LA or New York, should you send your resume to CW39 right now?

Former CW39 morning anchor Shannon LaNier is now in New York City with streamer Cheddar News.

Former CW39 reporter Leticia Juarez has been going strong as an ABC7 KABC LA reporter since 2010 - before the NewsFix times.

Now, don't get your hopes up. I once worked at CW39 and am still writing a blog on a free blogger account!  Not everyone can be a winner. It actually takes talent to get to the big time!

Back to Harvey, the "NO WAIT WEATHER + TRAFFIC" morning meteorologist and co-host of the lifestyle show "Houston Happens" joined CW39 in early 2021.

Before her role at CW39, Harvey worked at Nexstar Media Group's KIAH sister station, KREX 5 News, in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Before KREX 5, she was a news assistant at ABC7 KABC Los Angeles.

A California State University, Northridge graduate, Harvey also gained experience as a newsroom editor and anchor for the university-owned radio station 88.5 KCSN. She later earned a geoscience degree from Mississippi State University (MSU).

Dave Froehlich

Dave Froehlich announced he was leaving KHOU 11 Houston as its morning co-anchor with Kimberly Davis and Stephanie Simmons.

UPDATE OCTOBER 2023
Dave Froehlich returns to FOX 7 Austin KTBC

Here is what Froehlich said on Instagram in a video:

"All right. Exciting morning. Hectic morning. But if you didn't know and you care, my time on KHOU 11 morning news and my time at KHOU has come to an end as of this morning.

It's very full circle. I just happen to know it was September 1st when I got to walk in the building for the first time, September 1st, 2021, for my for my interview there. And now two years later, it's wrapped up.

And it was a dream come true to get to work in TV in my hometown. It's what I always wanted to do and I got to do it. And it was it was everything I could have hoped it would have been because of the great people who you see on the show every day, Steph and Kim and Chita and Jen and and all the reporters, all the producers, all the directors, all the editors and everybody in the building. So that's a great team.

I hope you keep watching the show. I'm going to keep watching the show. And I just want to say thank you for a great experience and a great run at KHOU. Again, I'm going to keep watching.

As for what I'm going to do next, um, I don't know. I'll let you know, but I don't know right now. I might take a nap."

UPDATE:  On the same holiday weekend that Froehlich said he was leaving, another Houston TV newser announced her departure, too.

Star Harvey joins PIX11 News WPIX New York

Star Harvey is the weekend morning meteorologist for PIX11 News WPIX New York after leaving CW 39 KIAH Houston.

"I’ve arrived in New York and I’m extremely excited to share I’ve joined the WPIX team," Harvey tweeted.  "Live debut next weekend. Tune in 8-10am to show some love."

Harvey posted the news about her PIX11 WPIX hiring with a photo of her taken on the Brooklyn Bridge.

Looks like my guess about Harvey going to a Nexstar Media Group station was right on target! Although I must admit, considering Harvey is from Los Angeles, I privately thought she might be heading to KTLA.  Speaking of moves in the same week...another Houston talent is heading to LA television.

Harvey joined CW39 Houston in early 2021 from KREX News 5 News Grand Junction, CO.  She started out as a meteorologist for KIAH's "NO WAIT WEATHER+TRAFFIC" morning newscast and then expanded to co-hosting "Houston Happens" with Maggie Flecknoe.

The California State University, Northridge grad started in the broadcast biz as a news assistant for abc7 KABC Los Angeles.

UPDATE
Star Harvey joins PIX11 News WPIX New York

She is heading off to a new station, but will not say which one as of yet.  If I had to guess, I bet it is a Nexstar Media Group station.  If you have any info, hit me up.

Here is what Harvey posted on Instagram:

"H-TOWN.. it’s been real!!

Thank you for welcoming me into your homes and trusting me to guide you through the highs and lows of weather.

It’s been a blessing to get on live tv and help maneuver ya’ll through the severe weather we get here in southeast Texas but also those blue sky days.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to experience the overwhelming love and support from the community while doing what I love most.

Y’all truly made me feel like the Beyoncé of weather!! I can’t wait to share what’s next for Bryce and I!"

The "NO WAIT WEATHER+TRAFFIC" morning meteorologist and lifestyle show "Houston Happens" co-host, joined CW39 in early 2021.

Harvey previously worked for Nexstar Media Group sister-station KREX News 5 News Grand Junction, CO.

Before KREX 5, Harvey was a news assistant for abc7 KABC Los Angeles.

Dave Froehlich joins KHOU 11

Dave Froehlich

Dave Froehlich announced he is joining the KHOU 11 morning team from FOX 7 KTBC's "Good Day Austin."

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2023
Dave Froehlich leaves KHOU 11 Houston

UPDATE 2022
Casey Claiborne moves to FOX 7 Austin mornings

Here is what Froehlich posted on Facebook:

"After just under eight & a half years, next Friday will be my last day on Good Day Austin (not giving back the mug, though). I’ll be moving down the road to anchor the morning show @khou11 (where hopefully new mugs will be available).

I talk & write for a living, but lately when this subject comes up, I’ve almost been at a loss for words. Houston’s my hometown, and the opportunity to anchor a morning show back home where I can reconnect with family & friends is something I’ve dreamed about for years-and at times doubted would ever happen.

I can’t wait to get started.

That said, Central Texas is a special place. It was special as a little kid when we’d head up 290 for Longhorn football games. It was special at 18 when I got to step on the 40 Acres as a student, and it’s been special over these years at Fox 7.

I’ve made DEEP friendships that will last the rest of my life, and had amazing experiences as my wife and I finished raising our kids here. Most of all, it’s been fun! And I’m so thankful for every minute of it.

So there’s that.

But as I look forward to more fun and adventures in Houston, the main thing I want to say in this post is THANK YOU to everyone who’s watched over the years & has connected here on social media.

It really does mean more than you know.

I’ll see you around-I’m sure of it. But till then, God bless you and (with apologies to @zackshieldsonfox7) Hook Em!!"

As with the KHOU 11 hiring of Jennifer Reyna, there was no mention of the #HTownRush name if that means anything to you.

Froehlich 's last day on FOX 7 KTBC's "Good Day Austin" was November 26, 2021.

Froehlich joined FOX 7 Austin in 2013.

Before Austin, the native Houstonian has worked at other stations in and outside of Texas.

Froehlich is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin.

FOX 7 "Good Day Austin" meteorologist Zack Shields posted this about Froehlich's move to Houston's KHOU 11:

"Austin we have a problem! Dave is going to Houston.

He has been a big part of Good Day Austin for the last 8 years. Now he is taking his talents to H-Town.

He is going back home. We are so happy for him and proud of him. It is bittersweet.

Not only has he been an amazing co-worker but also my friend. Since he is a single child I have taken on being his honorary big brother and bugging him all the time. I will miss all the good times and laughs, all the long conversations about life but mainly football and beating him in golf. I won’t miss him making me watch Golf Channel all the time, coffee and food spills on my desk, sabotaging my social media and talking Longhorn sports all the time.

This will be his last week on Good Day. Houston is getting a great dude and we wish him all the best on his new adventure. Like you always tell me, light breeze nothing serious. Dave you will be missed!"

FOX 7 "Good Day Austin" Morning traffic anchor/reporter Jane Lonsdale added on Facebook:

"Today we said goodbye to Dave Froehlich on Good Day Austin. While sad for us, he gets the incredible opportunity to return home to Houston to knock it out of the park as morning anchor at KHOU.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Dave and the rest of our fantastic team for 4 years now. He is a seasoned anchor, a stellar live interviewer and ad-libber, but most importantly—a really amazing person. As most of you know, he is also downright hilarious!

No doubt our team is sad to lose his incredible talent, but we couldn’t be more happy and proud that he gets to go home! You will be phenomenal in your new position, just as you were here. Wishing you nothing but the best and congratulations on this new journey!"

Star Harvey leaves CW39 Houston

"There’s more than 200 news markets in the US and NY is #1, LA is #2, and Chicago is #3, etc," Harvey posted on Instagram. "Usually but not always, us news people start in lower markets and work our way up. My first weather job in Grand Junction, Colorado is #187. I’m moving to my second job in Houston, Texas which is #8. My plans never included making such a BIG jump so fast."

In the below video, you can watch KREX news director John Kirby surprise Harvey during her final day of weather reports.  BTW, Kirby has some Texas broadcasting roots too.

Over the past few months, Harvey has been doing live talkbacks with CW39 from KREX5. Both stations are owned by Nexstar Media Group.

As she noted on Instagram, the Los Angeles, California native is moving up the TV market path back to her hometown very fast.

In fact, before KREX, Harvey worked for abc13 KTRK sister-station abc7 KABC as a news assistant.

While in college, the California State University, Northridge grad has also worked as a newsroom editor/anchor for 88.5 KCSN in Northridge, CA.

Fox O&Os syndicate news to nearby affiliates

Check this out. Mediaweek is reporting that some Fox O&Os are syndicating their news shows to nearby affiliates in smaller markets - creating a regional network:
Lacking the resources for news, stations in smaller markets approached Fox about the idea, [Dennis] Swanson said. For KFQX, the pact with KDVR put it in the news game, taking its ratings from hash marks to a 1.2 and 1.0 rating in May and July among adults 25-54. In exchange for the programming, KDVR gets a portion of the inventory to sell and breaking news content from the western part of the state provided by KFQX’s sister station and CBS affiliate, KREX, in the market.
So does that mean KRIV Fox 26 could be seen in smaller markets like Beaumont, Victoria and College Station? That is if those markets have a Fox station.

Makes sense, the Fox O&O gets a bigger audience and more money, plus the affiliate gets a possibly higher rated show to sell advertising for.
