Houston social media stars January 2020

KHOU takes the top spot overall for the first, from my memory, since I've been using Share Rocket starting in 2017.

Share Rocket gives us data on how each Houston TV station and the corresponding air staff members performed on Facebook and Twitter.

Share Rocket is, "a social media ratings and audience solution providing media companies an easy way to quantify their social media equity, benchmark against peers and turn social market intelligence into insights that drive social success."

The numbers are pulled from station usage on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using Share Rocket's "Share" measurement.

First we are looking at every Houston media company in the Share Rocket database and top personalities. Then I am looking at the top 5 on air staff members at each station in order of channel number.

Houston TV social rankings during Harvey

How did Houston TV stations and employees rank on social media during Hurricane Harvey coverage

Last week, KTRK abc13 sent us its Houston TV ratings data during the Hurricane Harvey coverage.

Now social TV ratings, rankings and analytics company, Share Rocket, gives us the data on how each station and the corresponding air staff members performed on Facebook and Twitter.

Important because according to Pew Research, now 67% of Americans use social media to get some of their news. If you lost power, social media was probably the way you got your news during the storm.

Share Rocket is, "a social media ratings and audience solution providing media companies an easy way to quantify their social media equity, benchmark against peers and turn social market intelligence into insights that drive social success."

These rankings look at the time span of August 25th to September 1st, 2017. The numbers are pulled from station usage on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using Share Rocket's "Share" measurement which is the way to look at weekly data.

First we are looking at every Houston media company in the Share Rocket database. Then I am looking at the top 5 on air staff members at each station in order of channel number.

The top five Houston Chronicle staffers are listed at the bottom. I did not include KIAH 39 because it does not have five full-time on-air employees to make up the list. KXLN does not have a complete top five list because there was an incorrect list of employees in the database, that is being corrected. No Houston radio stations are listed in the Share Rocket database.

Hottest Houston social media stars December 2017

As we look at the end of 2017 when it comes to the Houston media social media scene (say that five times fast) we see some big changes for rankings on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

This is all thanks to Share Rocket, a company that gives us data on how each Houston TV station, the Houston Chronicle and digital outlets performed on Facebook and Twitter for the month of December 2017. Share Rocket is, "a social media ratings and audience solution providing media companies an easy way to quantify their social media equity, benchmark against peers and turn social market intelligence into insights that drive social success."

The big story is the introduction of Eduardo Rodríguez (better known as Yusnaby Pérez on social) to Houston by way of Telemundo Houston KTMD.

He is a MASSIVE social media superstar. So big, I am not even sure that any one journalist will be able to keep up with him on social.

Rodríguez joined KTMD from WLTV Univision Miami.

“Our practice here at Telemundo Houston is to hire journalists based on their exceptional journalistic work and experience as well as their commitment to reporting news with utmost journalistic integrity," Jerry Vazquez, Vice President of News, Telemundo Houston told mikemcguff.com. "Since Eduardo joined our station last summer, he’s helped us report about the most impactful news to have ever affected our communities. I am very proud of all our journalists and the outstanding work they do everyday, which is resulting in Telemundo Houston being the station of choice for Houstonians.”

According to Share Rocket, when Rodríguez was an independent journalist on Cuba, he began going by Yusnaby Pérez to avoid trouble with the government. He has more than 1.25 million followers on social media, and that’s if you don’t count the 588,000+ who follow his @Yusnaby account on Twitter.

When he arrived at KTMD, Rodríguez launched @EduardoRNow on Twitter. That account already has 124,000+ followers.

Meanwhile the Yusnaby Pérez social media profile actually beats other Houston media main station and paper accounts in the share ranking.

As for the rest of Houston media, Share Rocket reports that total engagement was down in the last 30 days compared to the 30 days prior, with five of the seven stations the company tracks in the market seeing declines (four of those stations saw declines of -21% or more).

Houston social media stars May 2019
