Japhanie Gray returns to KSAT San Antonio, Serna moves

Japhanie Gray will return to KSAT12 San Antonio on August 5, 2024, as co-anchor of Good Morning San Antonio (GMSA) from 5am to 7am.

Taking over for longtime morning anchor Mark Austin, who retired in June, Gray returns to KSAT from Graham Media Group's sister station WSLS 10 News Roanoke, Virginia, where she was also a morning anchor.

Gray will co-anchor GMSA on weekday mornings with traffic anchor RJ Marquez and meteorologist Justin Horne.

Current GMSA co-anchor Stephanie Serna will move to GMSA at 9 and will team up with Gray on the later show.

"Leaving San Antonio two and half years ago was tough, but it was something that needed to be done to be the professional I am today," Gray said in a statement. "Even though I’m coming back under a new title, I am still the same ol’ Japh. What you’ll see is what you’ll get on and off-air. I will always keep it real and will always bring positive vibes."

"We could not be more thrilled to welcome back Japhanie Gray to San Antonio and the KSAT12 team," said Mario Orellana, KSAT12 News Director. "Japhanie’s character and personality are contagious and the energy she will bring in the mornings will wake viewers up prepared and ready to tackle their day."

Gray joined KSAT in 2018 as a reporter and fill-in anchor and is known for reporting on the segment ‘What’s Up South Texas.' She left the San Antonio station for WSLS in early 2022.

Beginning her career in television news as a camera operator for Region 8 News KAIT Jonesboro, Arkansas, Gray worked her way up to associate producer, producer, and eventually reporter/fill-in anchor.

Before her TV career, Gray was an on-air personality for Jonesboro Radio Group stations, including Hot 107.5 The Party Station KDXY, Mix 106.3 KJBX, and 100.5 The Eagle KEGI.

Graduating Summa Cum Laude from Arkansas State University, she earned three NATAS Mid-Atlantic Chapter Emmy Awards for her collegiate TV work.
