Tessa Barrera joins Houston Life

Tessa Barrera, co-host of "The Rod Ryan Show" on 94.5 The Buzz KTBZ, is the new KPRC 2 afternoon lifestyle show "Houston Life" co-host with Derrick Shore. It's not an AI version of Shore as the show joked in its open.

"Tessa you just stood out," Shore said after thanking all of those who applied for the job.

"I'm a fan of so many of the co-hosts you had in here," Barrera added.  "I feel like the luckiest girl in the world."

The Rod Ryan crew also sent in a video to wish Barrera good luck on her now second job.

As I blogged back in April, Barrera guest co-hosted with Shore as one of the many who sat in the chair since Courtney Zavala left Houston Life in January 2023 and later released this video.

Barrera started with 94.5 The Buzz from IHeartMedia Lost Angeles sister-station KFI AM 640 back in 2019 where she was a news anchor/executive producer.

Prior to that, the Corpus Christi native worked in TV news for KRIS 6 - KZTV Action 10 News in her hometown as a TV reporter and sportscaster.

Her other TV experience includes competing in CMT's Steve Austin’s reality competition show "Broken Skull Challenge" back in 2014.

The new co-hosts also announced they are opening the show to a studio audience this Friday.

"I became obsessed with Houston Life when I moved to Houston four years ago," says Barrera. "I can’t believe I am going to get to collaborate with this team on a consistent basis!"

Since Zavala left the show, guest co-hosts included Roseann RogersStephanie GilbertSarah PepperKatherine Whaley and many others.

"We’re all so very happy to have Tessa as a part of the Houston Life team," says KPRC 2 Vice President/General Manager Phil Lane. "Her chemistry with Derrick is undeniable, and we look forward to her future contributions to the show."
