With Houston and Dallas named as one of the 16 host cities for the 2026 World Cup, Telemundo Houston is celebrating.

Last week, KTMD hosted a luncheon for clients and stakeholders at PNC Stadium, the home of the Houston Dynamo FC, to introduce them to World Cup and parent company NBCUniversal's Peacock TV.

KTMD President and General Manager Tony Canales teamed up with fellow NBCU sister-station leaders NBC5 KXAS/Telemundo 39 KXTX Dallas-Fort Worth President & GM Tom Ehlmann and KVDA Telemundo 60 San Antonio President & GM Robert Sarabia to welcome invited guests.

Telemundo Houston lead sports anchor Ubaldo Martinez served as master of ceremonies and shared his experience covering World Cup 2018 Russia during a panel discussion.

Brian Ching, Houston Dynamo’s all time goal leader, talked about the passion of the sport from the perspective of his eight years representing Team USA on the world stage.

Chris Canetti, President Houston 2026 World Cup Bid Committee, offered a glimpse into the future as Houston will be a host city for the 2026 World Cup.

Alejandro Acebal, Vice President Digital Sales & Integration, Telemundo Stations/NBC Spot On and Daniel Diaz Director of World Cup, Olympics & Cross-Platform Partnerships, presented opportunities available across Peacock and the NBCU company portfolio.

The luncheon concluded with drawings for Dynamo tickets, FIFA World Cup premiums and a 55” smart TV with Peacock built in. All invited guests were given a swag bag that included FIFA, and soccer branded premiums from the Texas stations and NBCUniversal Local, plus a six month subscription to Peacock Premium.
