Katherine Whaley (formerly of KHOU 11 and ABC13 KTRK), with husband Chris Wadley, plus Kathryn and Travis Boeker, co-chaired Hermann Park Conservancy’s 2025 gala Evening in the Park.

“Hermann Park is one of the rare places that means something a little bit different to each of us yet really brings us all together,” Whaley said. “Seeing it become a part of a new generation’s story is one of the many reasons I hold it so dear. This fresh, welcoming, magical Park truly is Houston’s crown jewel."

Approximately 500 supporters gathered at Molly Ann Smith Plaza in the heart of Hermann Park to celebrate the first anniversary of the Commons. This vibrant, refreshed 26-acre stretch has redefined community engagement and connection in the Park.

Guests arrived in elegant spring cocktail attire at Lindsey Plaza, where a ride on the Hermann Park Railroad awaited them, offering a scenic jaunt through the Commons to see The Great Elephant Migration—the stunning sight of nearly 100 life-sized elephant sculptures that called Hermann Park home for the month of April.

Whaley and her co-chairs raised $690,000 in support of ongoing stewardship and improvements to this century-plus-old Houston treasure.

This year’s gala honored the Radoff family—Bunny Radoff, Russell and Jody Radoff, and Bradley and Monica Radoff—whose deep commitment to Houston has greatly enriched the Park and its ability to continuously develop and serve the community.

Some of those attending Evening in the Park: Houston Parks and Recreation director Kenneth Allen, Fady Armanious, Bill Baldwin, John Bishop, Kathryn Boeker, Travis Boeker, Kristy Bradshaw, Janet Clark, Isabel David, Paula DesRoches, Reginald DesRoches, Mac Dunwoody, Cece Fowler, Mack Fowler, Kevin Foyle, Lisa Helfman, Emily Keeton, Linda Kelly, George Kelly, Ann Kennedy, Geoffrey Walker, David Leebron, Y. Ping Sun, Marley Lott, Laura McWilliams, Brad McWilliams, Tai Quarles, Cory Quarles, Allison Thacker, Troy Thacker, Stephanie Tsuru, Frank Tsuru, Phoebe Tudor, Bobby Tudor, and Hallie Vanderhider and Bobby Dees.

Katherine Whaley is expecting

UPDATE JULY 30, 2019
Katherine Whaley has her baby

abc 13 KTRK morning traffic anchor Katherine Whaley is expecting

At the end of the morning newscast today, abc13 KTRK morning traffic anchor Katherine Whaley announced she is pregnant with her first child. Whaley's baby is due this summer.

"It's a little bit of a secret I've been keeping for several weeks now, but couldn't really keep it much longer so decided to make it public," Whaley said on Facebook Live. "Baby is due in July just a few weeks after Samica's [Knight]."

Whaley and husband Chris Wadley were married in May of 2016. See the photos.

She went on to post on Instagram:

Oh baby! Chris and I are so excited to share that we have a little one on the way! ❤️
Can’t wait to meet you this summer, sweet baby. You are already so loved.

Speaking of kids, my boys are out sick this week. Both tested positive for the flu and one also tested positive for strep. We will see how many posts I can make this week. Luckily have some already written for you because the Houston media never sleeps.

So far I have no symptoms. I'll keep washing my hands and taking vitamin C.

As a result of the illnesses, I had to pass up on an opportunity to go on air with Suzi Hanks from 106.9 and 107.5 Houston's Eagle to talk about Alzheimer's disease advocacy and the fight against it this week, but listen for that in the future.

Katherine Whaley leaves abc13 KTRK

Katherine Whaley

Katherine Whaley has announced she is leaving abc13 KTRK and her morning traffic duties as of  March 25, 2021 to spend more time with her family.

"I'm really emotional thinking about it," Whaley said on Facebook.  "I've done television for 17 years since 2004. So, yeah, it's been about 17 years. And stepping away definitely feels like a new, new challenge. And I'm here for it. I'm so excited, really happy for the opportunity to be able to spend more time with my family and to focus on some new projects. But if you know me, you know, I'm not going to be far away. You know, my heart is here in Houston. I'm heavily involved in a lot of charities here."

Whaley and her husband, Chris Wadley, had their first child, William, in 2019. They were married in 2016.

The Memorial High School grad joined channel 13 in 2014 after doing morning traffic, anchoring and reporting for KHOU 11 starting in 2009. The award winning journalist was hired to replace longtime channel 13 morning traffic anchor Don Nelson who retired.

The Rice University graduate previously worked as:

- KVBC Las Vegas anchor, reporter and weathercaster.

- KLFY Lafayette, Louisiana anchor/reporter

- KAVU Victoria MMJ and weathercaster

While at KHOU, Whaley covered her passion for food on both TV and online with her "Dash of Decadence" blog (Motley Crue fans may be reminded of the band's greatest hits package "Decade of Decadence").

"Being a TV reporter turned me into a foodie," Whaley told mikemguff.com in 2013. "The news business brought me to several cities with specific regional cuisine, and I was curious about how to cook those dishes at home. When I worked at the CBS affiliate in Lafayette, Louisiana, I picked up tips on gumbo, sweet potato pie, and fried okra. When I worked at the NBC affiliate in Las Vegas, I had the opportunity to interview chefs who made “fancy food” -- lobster bisque, foie gras, foams, powders, truffles, towers, and so on. I ate it up! But, I wasn't always an adventurous eater – I subsisted on hot dogs and PB&J until I was about ten."

Here the internal goodbye message that Whaley sent to the 13 Eyewitness News department:

"It has truly been an honor to work alongside you and serve the Houston community, but it’s time to embark on a new adventure.

At this time I feel called to spend more time with my family, and I am stepping away from the greenscreen. This is a change I have considered for a while, but it has simply been too hard to walk away from this incredible job and my work family here at Channel 13. But now is the time, and I am excited for what lies ahead.

To all of you, and particularly my morning team, thank you for the love, support, and laughs. I am grateful to have worked with such talented individuals, especially during these extraordinary times.

I first walked in the doors of Channel 13 as a college intern at Rice, and I am forever indebted to ABC for giving me a first shot at TV. I received the best on-the-job education and learned from the greats (including Marvin Zindler!).

All I ever wanted to do was return to the station that gave me a start, so the last six years here have been the fulfillment of a career dream. I think of Houston viewers as an extension of my own family, and it has truly been a privilege to have been a part of their daily routines.

Houston is home, and I won’t be far away, so I look forward to staying connected. If you need a good restaurant recommendation, reach out!"

FOX 26 KRIV anchor/reporter Katie McCall is engaged; plus some other Houston TV anchors with rings on their fingers

UPDATE OCTOBER 20, 2015
Katie McCall to leave FOX 26 KRIV

A big congratulations is in order for Katie McCall of FOX 26 KRIV. The anchor/reporter just announced the news of her engagement.

"Well this was not my usual Wednesday night," she tweeted late last night.

No word on who the lucky guy is. I found out McCall's fiance is Houston attorney David Noll.

In other ring news, I hear abc13 KTRK investigative reporter Keli Rabon also has wedding bells in her future.

Now, while I was on a summer blogging break, all kinds of questions were popped (I tweeted and facebooked the news so make sure to follow me).

First up was KTRK abc13 morning traffic anchor Katherine Whaley getting proposed to by boyfriend Chris Wadley while on a Hawaiian beach.

Then, KHOU 11 morning meteorologist Chita Johnson's boyfriend Lane Craft dropped down on one knee during a leisurely dinner at his home.

And let's not forget former FOX 26 KRIV morning anchor Natalie Bomke who just got married to former ABC The Bachelorette contestant Ed Swiderski in Chicago.

UPDATE
KHOU 11 reporter Alice Barr and television photographer David Soltis recently got engaged too.
