Alicia Barrera left her KSAT 12 San Antonio MMJ/reporter/anchor/KSAT News Now co-host role in December 2022 and immediately joined NBC DFW Telemundo 39 KXTX Dallas - Fort Worth as a reporter.
Here is what Barrera's NBC 5 DFW KXAS co-worker Brittney Johnson posted about the former KSAT anchor's new Metroplex TV reporting job:
"She grew up here in North Texas, comes to us from San Antonio and also enjoys running (which I’m clearly pumped about!
You’ll see her sharing stories in English and Spanish and maybe getting in some miles around town soon."
Here is part of what Barrera posted on Instagram when leaving KSAT San Antonio.
"These past four years have been more than I ever dreamed of. Every story, encounter, mistake, fear, joy, win, regañada and more has helped me get to this point in my career.
I especially want to thank our now former news director, Bernice for giving me a chance. I had zero experience in English-language news when she hired me.
I’ll miss this team, the amazing photojournalists that have become more like family, my super producer and work husband on KSAT News Now (RJ Marquez), every corner of this city, all the families that have welcomed me into their homes, the stories left to share, the panaderías, Taquitos West Ave, la cultura on the streets of SA, FIESTA and so much more."
Barrera joined KSAT in November 2018 from Telemundo 40 KTLM Rio Grande Valley where she was a video journalist.
She previously worked as a multimedia journalist (MMJ)/reporter/production assistant for Telemundo 60 San Antonio KVDA.
The Our Lady of the Lake University grad freelanced for Univision 41 San Antonio KWEX in various roles while in school.
