Analia Fiestas, Carlos Zapata and Karuska Matos named for 'Noticias Telemundo Texas'


DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TX – (September 6, 2022) – Analia Fiestas and Carlos Zapata have been named News Anchors and Karuska Matos will serve as Meteorologist for “Noticias Telemundo Texas,” a new weekday newscast that will air across Telemundo stations KXTX / Dallas Fort Worth, KTMD / Houston, KVDA / San Antonio, KTLM / Harlingen-McAllen and KTDO / El Paso, beginning September 26. The newscast will air in the aforementioned Telemundo owned station markets Monday to Friday from 5am to 7am CT. 

With this role, Fiestas, expands her current News Anchor duties for Telemundo 39’s midday newscasts, and will be joined by Zapata, former WNJU News Anchor. Matos joins the “Noticias Telemundo Texas” anchor team from KXLN-Houston.   

The newscast’s reporter roster will include Telemundo station Reporters from KXTX, KTMD, KVDA, KTLM and KTDO, with each delivering reports and breaking news updates from their communities. Matos will deliver real-time weather updates for each community and expand on climate and weather storytelling. Fiestas and Zapata will delve into important stories of the day, explaining their impact locally and statewide. 

Fiestas, a native of Peru, is a bilingual award-winning journalist. She has been part of the Telemundo stations’ family for seven years. She joined Telemundo 39 / KXTX in 2016 as reporter, after working as a news reporter associate for the Telemundo Station Group’s Miami bureau for a year. Two years after joining KXTX, Fiestas was named News Anchor of the station’s midday newscasts.  Fiestas also contributes to NBC 5’s newscasts. While at KXTX, she has delivered breaking news anchor coverage for Texas’ tornado outbreaks in March of this year, the Arlington High School shooting and has reported about the region’s February 2021 electric grid collapse and deadly winter storms, among others.  Before joining NBCUniversal in 2015, she worked as an associate producer for WPLG in Miami. She is the recipient of two Lone Star Emmy Awards in the categories of best “Morning Newscast” and “Breaking News Coverage.”  

Zapata, a native of Colombia who began his journalism career in Ecuador, is an award-winning bilingual journalist. He has spent nine years working at Telemundo-owned stations and returns to KXTX after serving as Reporter for Telemundo 47 / WNJU in New York for nearly two years. While at KXTX from 2013 to 2020, he worked his way up from video journalist to News Anchor.  While at KXTX, he has covered numerous breaking news stories and was dispatched to the Texas-Mexico Border on special assignment to report on the humanitarian crisis. At WNJU, Zapata continued to report on US-Mexico border issues. Zapata is the recipient of a 2022 national GLAAD Media Award for his reporting work and contributions to WNJU’s June 2021 special “LGBTQ Pride: 52 years of Struggle and Evolution.”  He has received 14 Lone Star Emmy Awards, including two awards in the categories of best “News Anchor” and “News Reporter” and was recently nominated for 12 New York Emmy Awards, including best "Live Reporter” and "Features/Human Interest Reporter.” Before joining NBCUniversal, he worked at WUVF-TV and WANA-TV in Ft. Myers-Naples as News Anchor and Reporter, D'Latinos Magazine as Columnist and Contributor, and for several TV and radio stations in Ecuador.

Matos, a native of Puerto Rico, joins the Telemundo stations and NBCUniversal for the first time after working as meteorologist for KXLN-TV in Houston and AccuWeather. 

At AccuWeather, she created weather forecasts for cities across the United States and Latin America. She earned a bachelor’s of science degree in Physical Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez with certification in Environmental Chemistry and Meteorology and Education. As part of her collegiate academic expertise, she interned at the Argonne National Laboratory to study the public’s interest of air quality and meteorology related to the construction/operation of Spent Nuclear Fuel facilities, was part of NASA’s University Research and Education Project at the Kennedy Space Center, which prepared college students to engage gifted, children with special needs and first-time English-language learners with STEM subjects, and while at the U.S. National Weather Service’s Caribbean Tsunami Warning Program, she analyzed the performance of sea level sensors along the Caribbean.  

Telemundo Station Group recently announced the launch of “Noticias Telemundo Texas,” to help better serve Spanish-speaking audiences in Texas with the news and information they need to start their day and explain how these, can impact their communities. “Noticias Telemundo Texas” will be produced and anchored from The Studios at DFW, a state-of-the-art news facility that is home to Telemundo 39 / KXTX, NBC 5 / KXAS and LX News network. With the addition of this new newscast, Telemundo’s 31 television stations will deliver more than 26,600 live, news hours to their local communities.

DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TX – (6 de septiembre del 2022) – Analia Fiestas y Carlos Zapata han sido nombrados presentadores de noticias y Karuska Matos se desempeñará como meteoróloga de “Noticias Telemundo Texas”, un nuevo noticiero de lunes a viernes que se transmitirá por las estaciones de Telemundo KXTX / Dallas Fort Worth, KTMD / Houston, KVDA / San Antonio, KTLM / Harlingen-McAllen y KTDO / El Paso, a partir del 26 de septiembre. El noticiero se transmitirá en los mercados televisivos de estaciones propiedad de Telemundo antes mencionados de lunes a viernes de 5AM a 7AM CT.

Con este cargo, Fiestas amplía sus deberes actuales de presentadora de noticias para los noticieros del mediodía de Telemundo 39, y se unirá a Zapata, ex presentador de noticias de WNJU. Matos se une al equipo de presentadores de “Noticias Telemundo Texas” luego de trabajar para KXLN-Houston.

La lista de reporteros del noticiero incluirá reporteros de las estaciones de Telemundo KXTX, KTMD, KVDA, KTLM y KTDO, y cada uno entregará informes y actualizaciones de noticias de última hora de sus comunidades. Matos compartirá actualizaciones meteorológicas en tiempo real para cada comunidad y ampliará la narración de historias sobre el clima. Fiestas y Zapata profundizarán en las historias importantes del día, explicando su impacto a nivel local y estatal.

Fiestas, originaria de Perú, es una galardonada periodista bilingüe. Hace siete años forma parte de la familia de las estaciones de Telemundo. Se unió a Telemundo 39 / KXTX en 2016 como reportera, luego de trabajar como reportera asociada de noticias para la oficina de Miami de Telemundo Station Group durante un año. Dos años después de unirse a KXTX, Fiestas fue nombrada presentadora de noticias de los noticieros del mediodía de la estación. Fiestas también contribuye a los noticieros de NBC 5. Durante su tiempo con KXTX, ha entregado cobertura de noticias de última hora sobre los tornados de Texas en marzo de este año, el tiroteo en la escuela secundaria de Arlington y ha informado sobre el colapso de la red eléctrica de la región en febrero de 2021 y las tormentas de invierno mortales, entre otros. Antes de unirse a NBCUniversal en 2015, trabajó como productora asociada para WPLG en Miami. Recibió dos premios Lone Star Emmy en las categorías de mejor "Noticiero Matutino" y "Cobertura de Noticias de Ultima Hora".

Zapata, nativo de Colombia, quien comenzó su carrera periodística en Ecuador, es un galardonado periodista bilingüe, ha pasado nueve años trabajando en estaciones propiedad de Telemundo y regresa a KXTX después de servir como reportero y presentador de noticias para Telemundo 47 / WNJU en Nueva York durante casi dos años. Mientras estuvo en KXTX de 2013 a 2020, se abrió camino de reportero audiovisual a presentador de noticias, cubriendo numerosas noticias de última hora y fue enviado a la frontera entre Texas y México en una misión especial para informar sobre la crisis humanitaria. En WNJU, continuó informando sobre asuntos fronterizos entre Estados Unidos y México. Zapata recibió un premio nacional GLAAD Media Award 2022 por su trabajo periodístico y sus contribuciones al especial de junio de 2021 de WNJU "Orgullo LGBTQ: 52 años de lucha y evolución". Ha recibido 14 premios Emmy Lone Star, incluidos dos premios en las categorías de mejor "presentador de noticias" y "reportero de noticias", y recientemente fue nominado a 12 premios Emmy de Nueva York, incluidos los de mejor "Reportero en vivo" y "Reportero de características/interés humano". Antes de unirse a NBCUniversal, trabajó en WUVF-TV y WANA-TV en Ft. Myers-Naples como presentador de noticias y reportero, en la revista D'Latinos como columnista y colaborador, y para varias estaciones de radio y televisión en Ecuador.

Matos, originaria de Puerto Rico, se une a las estaciones de Telemundo y NBCUniversal luego de trabajar como meteoróloga para KXLN-TV en Houston y AccuWeather. En AccuWeather, creó pronósticos meteorológicos para ciudades a lo largo de los Estados Unidos y América Latina. Obtuvo una licenciatura en Ciencias Físicas de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Mayagüez con certificación en Química Ambiental y Meteorología y Educación. Como parte de su experiencia académica universitaria, hizo una pasantía en el Laboratorio Nacional de Argonne para estudiar el interés del público en la calidad del aire y meteorología relacionada con la construcción/operación de las instalaciones de combustible nuclear gastado, fue parte del Proyecto de Investigación y Educación de la Universidad de la NASA en el Kennedy Space Center, que preparó a estudiantes universitarios para involucrar a niños superdotados, con necesidades especiales y estudiantes de inglés por primera vez con materias STEM, y mientras estuvo en el Programa de Alerta de Tsunami del Caribe del Servicio Meteorológico Nacional de EE. UU., analizó el rendimiento de los sensores de nivel del mar a lo largo del Caribe.

Telemundo Station Group anunció recientemente el lanzamiento de "Noticias Telemundo Texas", para ayudar a servir mejor a las audiencias de habla hispana en Texas con las noticias y la información que necesitan para comenzar el día y explicar cómo pueden impactar en sus comunidades. “Noticias Telemundo Texas” será producido y presentado desde The Studios en DFW, una instalación de noticias de última generación que alberga a Telemundo 39 / KXTX, NBC 5 / KXAS y LX News. Con la adición de este nuevo noticiero, las 31 estaciones de televisión de Telemundo entregarán más de 26,600 horas de noticias en vivo a sus comunidades locales.
