“I'm thrilled to be joining the all-star team at KENS 5 and covering sports in the city of San Antonio,” Ryan said in a release. “The city’s history, tradition and people are unrivaled in the United States, and that's before we even get to San Antonio’s sports! I grew up watching the Spurs celebrate NBA championships on the River Walk, and now I can't wait to cover the titles to come.”
Ryan will anchor sports alongside Isis Romero and weather chief Bill Taylor on the 6pm and 10pm newscasts and with Deborah Knapp at 5pm.
“Nate has an ability to connect with both hard-core and casual sports fans,” said Jack Acosta, news director for KENS 5. “He has great energy and is a lot of fun to watch. We’re excited to welcome him to San Antonio.”
The Chicago native comes from KVIA ABC-7 News El Paso where he was weekend sports anchor/reporter since June 2019. In 2020, Ryan was named “Best Sports Anchor” by the El Paso Inc. newspaper.
Rachel Phillips will be moving from "Good Morning El Paso Weekend" to Ryan's KVIA weekend sports anchor position.

Anyone who knows me knows I love sports and this has been the dream for a while now.
Can’t wait to continue telling the sports stories of the Borderland! ☺️☺️ pic.twitter.com/AcmVG3gDQ4
Before the Sun City, Ryan was a production assistant for ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut.
The DePauw University grad interned with FOX 32 Chicago WFLD and Univision Miami.
“As a kid, my heroes were all sportscasters. Though separated by a TV screen, I felt like I knew them. They were friendly voices who shared my common passion,” he said. “That connection is what I think about every time I'm on air. If you see me on TV, it's the same as if we're having a cup of coffee in the park.”
With a minor in Spanish from DePauw, looking forward to see what the Alamo City has to offer.
“As a fluent Spanish-speaker, I can't wait to experience San Antonio's rich Hispanic culture firsthand," Ryan added.
