Brooks Garner on air as tornado hits FOX 35 studios

Former KHOU 11 Houston meteorologist Brooks Garner covered a tornado live on air that was hitting his own station's studios at Lake Mary FOX 35 Orlando WOFL Central Florida, located in Seminole County.

"Everybody in the FOX 35 building, get to your safe space under your desk, if you're not in a designated area," Garner said on-air during the coverage. "We're catching debris right now on the roof. Debris is on the roof right now. We're hearing...you can see the debris flying there on the camera. This is a tornado! Seek shelter immediately."

WOFL reports that the EF2 tornado touched down at 9:36 a.m., with winds peaking at 115 mph. No fatalities or injuries were reported.

"We didn’t know how strong the tornado was going to be or what impacts it would have on the studio, as it approached and hit," Garner told mikemcguff.com.  "Thankfully, the building is strong, and the twister weakened a bit."

Garner joined FOX 35 Orlando in 2021 from FOX 31 KDVR and KWGN Denver.

FOX 26 Houston KRIV meteorologist Allison Gargaro came to Houston from FOX 35 Orlando in 2023.
