Newly minted KSAT 12 "Good Morning San Antonio's" RJ Marquez never thought his time with the station would lead to the morning anchor chair when he first started more than a decade ago.
For 14 years, Marquez covered San Antonio for KSAT in different positions.
He began his KSAT career in the summer of 2010 as the overnight digital producer and writer for "GMSA."
His news department managers encouraged him to try on-air reporting.
Initially hesitant, Marquez found his voice while covering the San Antonio Spurs during their remarkable run in the early 2010s, culminating in the team's 2014 NBA championship.
Following this, KSAT launched "GMSA @9," and Marquez was invited to be on-air. This led him to become a reporter for the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts and to the morning show as a traffic anchor/reporter.
Now, he is at the morning news desk with co-anchor Japhanie Gray, and he says he does not take lightly being a Hispanic voice for the city's underserved communities.
