Tracy Kennick leaves 12News KBMT Beaumont

Tracy Kennick signed off 12News Daybreak KBMT-KJAC Beaumont Friday morning, March 29, 2024, at 7am.

"Such a sweet goodbye from my friends and co workers, my family and so many of you who have reached out to say you’ve been along for the ride," Kennick posted on Facebook. "Thank you Southeast Texas for allowing me to tell your stories for nearly 30 years. I have loved every minute of it. I hope you will still say hi when you see me out at events around town. Again.. it’s not goodbye.. it’s I’ll see you later."

It's certainly not a goodbye, as Kennick will still be in the Golden Triangle as a senior manager of media and public relations for the City of Beaumont.

"It's a loss for 12News but a gain for the City of Beaumont as we move the city forward into the future," said news director, Ginny Sweeney in a statement. "We are excited to work with Tracy on the other side, but will definitely miss her presence in the newsroom. Thank you for 30 years of serving Southeast Texas."

After finishing as a top finalist in the Miss USA competition representing Utah, Kennick joined KBMT Channel 12 News in 1996. She has since anchored and reported on virtually every station newscast, starting with the 5pm newscast and moving to the 6pm newscast. In 2005, she moved to the morning newscast where she has been ever since.

Before moving to southeast Texas, Kennick worked for KSL Salt Lake City.

The Brigham Young University grad anchored during college on the school's KBYU. If you think that's young to know your future profession, Kennick actually got into the news biz at age 11 reporting for her hometown's TCI Cablevision station and writing for the local newspaper.

Interesting fact, all of Kennick's children are named after US presidents.
