Madd Hatta just announced on Kandi Eastman's show that he is returning to Radio One Houston at Majic 102.1 KMJQ Houston in the afternoon slot from 2 to 7pm.
"The Madd Hatta Show" starts February 12, 2024.
Last Friday, longtime KMJQ afternoon host Lawrence “Funky Larry” Jones (aka “Uncle Funky”) announced it was his last show.
In 1993, Madd Hatta, whose real name is Benjamin Thompson III, started in Houston on the Majic 102 night shift.
Most people will remember the 2014 Texas Radio Hall of Fame member from his long career with 97.9 The Box KBXX, where he first was the afternoon DJ starting in 1995, followed by a very successful run doing "The Madd Hatta Morning Show" starting in 2001.
He also served as the assistant program director/music director for sister stations Boom 92 and Majic 102 in addition to hosting the "Super Throwback Party" on KMJQ.
Hatta left The Box and Radio One Houston in January 2020 and later joined Texas Southern University as Operations Manager of 90.9 KTSU and The Vibe - a position he left last week, from what I hear.
Outside of broadcasting, the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University grad also hosts "The Madd Hatta Show" Podcast on YouTube and other streaming platforms specializing in the best of today's and classic R&B. He also runs Klassic Joints, an all-old-school hip-hop music channel.
Hatta has also succeeded as CEO of the Paid in Full Entertainment record label, including work from Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, and 50/50 Twin.
