Madd Hatta joins Majic 102.1 KMJQ Houston
The show featured calls from longtime listeners and other Houston DJs, who expressed their appreciation for the legendary DJ. Apparently, Jones found out last night that today would be his last show.
Jones, who has been broadcasting for more than 50 years, was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame class of 2022. He has also been named Billboard Magazine Personality of the Year.
radioINSIGHT reports that Jones joined KMJQ in 1994 to host the morning show "Jones & Company." Before returning to Majic 102.1 in 2014 to take over for Jeff Harrison, Jones also worked for Smooth Jazz 95.7 The Wave KHJZ and Gospel Praise 92.1 KROI.
Jones has been heard outside of Houston on other big-time radio stations such as WGCI Chicago, WBLS New York City, and WMMJ Washington.
The Alabama State University grad has been recognized for his work in the community by leaders such as former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (U.S. 18th Congressional District), Texas State Senator Borris L. Miles (District 13), NAACP Houston Chapter President Bishop James Dixon, and Houston Area Urban League President Judson W. Robinson III.
radioINSIGHT adds that Jones' departure follows other recent high-profile Radio One (Majic 102 owner) departures.
